I love Mexico and the great people there; friendly and courteous, especially when you are a tourist! Our first time in Cancun although not the first in the area since we have been to Cozumel years before. I loved the place, especially venturing out of the hotel zone site seeing and eating authentic Yucatin and Mexican foods, great restaurants at reasonable prizes.
With regards to BW Clipper Club, the hotel was just OK. I traveled with my wife and 2 yr. old daughter and we booked this vacation last minute through RCI time share, so our stay was inexpensive. We were greeted warmly and given tourist area activities. Unfortunately for those of you who are time share owners, a "complementary" breakfast offered isn't for free. Our previous experience is that their is a complementary breakfast, but not a time-share presentation, AVOID it like the plague. We had no idea and had the most unpleasant experience. It is NOT WORTH your precious VACATION TIME, and every one will offer it to you. Unfortunately it's a source of income for these people.
The hotel is dated and old, not what we usually expect. The beds were uncomfortable, the linens were rough, and the towels were thin. However, if you were just there to sleep and stay out most of your day, it was sufficient. The hotel does not have beach access, it's a walk away. It does have a very nice unheated pool. What my wife loved was the excellent house keeping service. Our rooms were cleaned every day and given fresh new towels. This area is more for the young club party crowd since Coco Mungo is a short walk away and the music can be heared all night long (thank God for the airconditioning that blocked the noise level).
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and a great place to vacation, just not at this hotel and location. Our dollars went a long way and we were happy about that. I also tipped well and I think that too is important considering people there work very hard to earn those tips. Good luck!

This is not a Best Western hotel anymore. When I checked in it was and when I had problems the next day the front desk told me it was no longer a Best Western. The room we stayed in was ok, not BW standards. The southern rooms get to hear the thudding of the outdoor bars music all night until 7am! Although it is close to everything so it is a tradeoff.

We booked a room at the BW Clipper Club for a single night as we waited for a room to open on Isla Mujeres. When we arrived, we were greeted by the hotel coordinator who asked how long we were staying and what we wanted to see. Since we wanted to go south to see ruins, they arranged a rental car for us and had them come pick us up (very reasonable deal, too). Our room was fantastic. It is not a plush, soft Hilton room, but exactly what you'd expect from a tropical hotel from an old movie (in a good way). The room was clean and comfortable, if a little spartan. The kitchenette had a fridge and microwave and coffee maker, was very clean and neat. Also had a large table that could be used to have friends over if traveling with others. The rooms have whitewashed walls with some tropical artwork. The bedroom and kitchen are separated by shutters that open up so the wind and the light goes throughout. One side of the room looked out to the lagoon between the hotel zone and mainland and the other out to the city.
As far as location, I think it was perfect. It is off the street far enough that the noise from the clubs and bars is non-existent. It also sits on it's own peninsula into the lagoon giving it a secluded feel. However, just across the parking lot is the main street where there is shopping, bars and excellent places to eat.
I would highly recommend the Clipper Club to anyone as a very well priced location with good service and a great feel.

Stayed at this hotel for one week with my husband and my parents. Had a suite- which was really one regular room and one room with a kitchenette. We all thought that it was OK. The place definitely had a Mexican feel to it, with the decorations and the tile work. It's not a five star resort, but it was perfectly adequate. It was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The people who work there were really nice, too. The location cannot be beat- steps away from all the action downtown and really close to the public bus stops. The pool is nice (with a decent swim-up bar) and the restaurant on-site was good too. There is no beach, but the front desk says that they have beach rights someplace across town. They also have discounted access to the Beach Club, which is right across the street. This was awesome- $5USDpp to get in, and $5USD pp to rent a huge shaded cabana. It was fantastic. We also all got 1 hour massages at the Clipper Club for $25USD each. You have to negotiate that- we may have gotten a better price because there were 4 of us. Great place if you are going to explore Cancun- but not a good place if you are looking for a resort. Also- it was silent at night- the bass noise might depend on the season- because we heard nothing at night.

Before traveling to Cancun, I read other reviews on this hotel with a bit of skecpticism; however, after having been there, my advice is "Believe It." We had three rooms, three baths, and a kitchenette. The AC was too cold in one room (controls didn't work) and not cold enough in another room. One shower had only cold water. Only one out of four burners worked on the stove.
The last couple of days we were there, the water was sporadically on and off. We lost hot water our last morning, while preparing to leave on the plane.
My worst experience by far, however, were the bass-drum sounds and vibrations from a night club that penentrated our walls. We would be blasted out of sleep at different times of the night or early morning, sometimes at 12:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m. other times at 5:00 a.m. This would last anywhere from an hour to several hours. Once it started, there was no sleeping.
As others have said, grounds were well kept and most staff was helpful, but in spite of this I strongly advise that you find another place to stay.
