We go every year - usually in late January. It's not the Four Seasons - don't come with those kind of expectations. It's quaint, quiet, close to everything, and it's clean. Small, villa style, feels like you're actually in Mexico, rather than some overly Americanized big hotel. Amazing location, in the heart of everything, yet off-the-beaten-path, tucked away on a little road where you feel completely secluded. We meet relatives there for a mini family reunion every year. We bring all the kids and they love it there. The staff is wonderful and we've gotten to know them. It feels like our home away from home. Beach is a short walk across the street.
Suggestions: The on-site restaurant has great food, and nightly specials (with drinks included for one price), but that can add up for a whole week. We keep it cheap for our family by taking a taxi to Walmart at the beginning of the week to buy breakfast/lunch/beverages & of course alcohol. We go out for dinner each night, either there or out on the town. Suggestions for restaurants in & around town....The Shrimp bucket, Perricos, Iguana Wana, and a little burrito place - Gordita Blue. We've never gotten sick from the tap water, but a precaution would be to ask the front desk to send a 5 gallon bottle for drinking to get you through the week with coffee, etc.
