We are enjoying our third day at the Best Western Cancun Clipper Club, and simply felt I should say something about the resort for anyone in the middle of making a decision about lodging here in Cancun. The hotel has far exceeded our expectations. We find the location terrific, the property in very good condition, and the staff excellent. We consider the property to be an extremely good value.

“great location, great value”

We stayed in this hotel in may this year. It wasn't 5 star accomodation (and the price reflects this!) but it was certainly great value for money! The rooms were cleaned daily, as was the pool. The location is brilliant - a stones throw from all the action yet suprisingly quiet! The staff are friendly and always willing to help. Don't listen to the moaning minnies - if you want somewhere to rest your head between the late nights and lazy days this is a great place to go!

Best Western Cancun Clipper Club

We arrived at the Cancun Clipper Club at 1 PM with our 3 kids, tired and hungry, and were told that the room would not be ready until 4 PM. The "welcome" staff wanted us to look at the Royal Sands, for which we would receive a free lunch and a $70 cruise (which was refundable), and additionally we could go for a swim at the Royal Sands if we wanted. They denied that it was a timeshare presentation, which we weren't in the mood for, but with our loads of luggage, the kids, and no place to go, we agreed. Really, it wasn't so bad. They gave us our free meal and our cruise in exchange for 90 minutes (yes, a timeshare presentation), and if I could have pictured us going to Cancun on a regular basis, I would have bought there! Anyway, just a warning that you will probably be approached to look at a timeshare as you try to check into this hotel, but really, it's very gentle as far as timeshare presentations go, and pays nicely. We ended up getting the cash back with no problem.

Now, after being at the Royal Sands, the Clipper Club seemed rather shabby and badly in need of a facelift, but that is not really a fair comparison. It probably was a swinging place 30 years ago, and the years have not been altogether kind. But, for $187 per night, we had a one bedroom/2 bath suite with a full kitchen, a good-size dinette, and a large living room. The suite extended through the entire building, and our view was pool out one end (kitchen window) and lagoon out the other (living room windows). Really very beautiful. And though the buildings are not sparkling and new, the rooms are clean, the landscaping is very well done and pretty, and the pool was nice and great fun for the kids. We didn't eat there, but there was a large crowd at the restaurant near the pool, and they all seemed happy.

The very best attribute of this hotel is that it is relatively inexpensive and walking distance to the Hard Rock Cafe, Coco Bongos, the bar (whose name escapes me) where Tom Cruise filmed "Cocktail" ,and lots of other places that really started hopping as the sun went down, as well as to a nice public beach. And, as everyone has said, the bus system is great, and cheap, if you wanted to go elswhere, like Margaritaville or Carlos & Charlies.

If you are traveling to Cancun on a budget, this hotel is really a good value, has a great location, and offers the convenience of preparing some of your own meals (and drinks). I could really picture us there with friends mixing up margaritas as we watched the sun set over the lagoon.

Heavenly. I miss Cancun already.

“It's an ok hotel but restaurant staff at Rays was great!”

Best Western Cancun Clipper Club

I recently stayed at the Best Western Jul 3rd-Jul 10th because the resorts in Cancun are too expensive. The hotel is ok but the people at the desk that try to sell you tours; they bother you everytime you walk out of your room to get you to go to The Royal Sands Resort. It was annoying, you go on vacation to relax and to be left alone. My friend and I did go to the Royal Sands Resort one day but we did not buy the timeshare, we just took advantage of the free breakfast buffet, $30 cash coupon, free sombrero, free transportation, and bottle of Tequila. The breakfast was delicious; they had french toast, eggs, hashbrowns, pastries, planktons etc; all you have to do is listen to the sales pitch after breakfast and then tell them you're not interested or you can't afford it. They will have to honor your time listening to them and you'll get free stuff and cash when it's done. The problems we had at the Best Western hotel were that they give you a remote control for your tv when you check in and I had to switch it 3 times because they didn't work. When it would rain outside the tv channels would go blank, only 3 channels were in english and there were no major movie channels- that sucked. They don't supply you with irons and ironboards in your room so you have to borrow an iron from the front desk and return it. The cleaning staff didn't speak any english so we had to use visuals to ask for extra bath towels. The Jacuzzi in our standard room didn't even work. The people at the front desk charged me for using there phone when I made calls with a calling card. The hotel beds are ROCK HARD! so if you have a bad back these beds won't help. There were way too many mosquitos at the front desk and we got bitten more than three times on the day we were departing. If you get the continental breakfast plan when you book; all you get is sweet roles, orange juice, fruit, or a small box of cereal everyday. You may as well buy breakfast instead. Despite the hotels faults, the staff at Rays restaurant by the pool were all very friendly. Miguel was our waiter everytime and he was a really nice guy so his tips were well deserved. The hotel is ok if you're on an extra tight budget. I hope this review was helpful.
