“Great for a Margarita Christmas”

Cancun Plaza Condo Hotel

Jul 24, 2007

Went with four other recent graduates to celebrate an alternative Christmas and we had a ball. Our rooms were very nice, we had two adjoining rooms with three double beds and a balcony outside that extended the length of both rooms. Don't get me wrong, they weren't five star by any means, but they met our needs.

Our only complaints were that two beds were very comfy and one was extremely lumpy. Also the bathrooms smelled pretty bad, but nothing that was intolerable. And the water in the showers was lukewarm at best. The staff did their job, but not as the staff at the Ritz, Hilton, or even the Days Inn would. This isn't really a complaint, just a forewarning. This isn't an actual hotel, you're renting a condo. There's no front desk to ring a bell on, their english is mildly conversational at best, you can't call downstairs if you forgot a toothbrush or razor, it's just different...

Other than that it was great! They arranged for us to get to and from the airport. We got fresh towels, beds made, new soap, etc every night. They have a great bar right by the pool. Since we went for Christmas, they had a huge Christmas Eve party where we sat at the bar for hours, got authentic Mexican food prepared right in front of us and PLENTY of tequila. We danced and danced, fun times indeed.

The pool was very nice, a huge kiddie side and an even bigger deeper end that went to four feet. And it was right on the beach. The view from our room was breathtaking.

It was away from any noise since it was on the far side of the hotel zone. However, anywhere we wanted to be was just a short bus ride away. The bus was maybe 20 steps from the hotel's front gate. It was cheap enough to allow us to spend our money elsewhere, but not so cheap in quality that we wished we had upgraded.

Since we have more money now, I don't know if we'd stay there again, we might go all inclusive next time. However, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to spend the bulk of their money actually experiencing Cancun and not paying for a cookie cutter room in a hotel.

“Please Beware”

If a reciept has 'not refundable'...in most cases BEWARE.

First off my room smelled of human excrement. I prompty cut on all air moving devices.

The bar ran out of ice for the stay.. Managament did not care. If you like to drink a cool refreshing beverage and relax on your vacation. This is a major issue. Me and the bar manager discussed this nicely. He said he'd have to charge everyone in the hotel an increased price for drinks! I was floored! Moving on.

I paid via credit card for a two day stay. I refused to stay the second. Of course, charge reversal was denied. I left anyway. I'm SURE most of the major card companies have a file on them.

We did enjoy our stay and were planning on returning. However..These people never gave us our two hundred dollar refund. They kept promising us they would. And then they just ignored us. We were very patient for six months looking for the "Check in the mail" which of course never arrived. The place was cheap for a family of five, but pretty rustic. Lovely beach and pool. These people are unethical and untruthful, that is why we are filing a complaint against them.

“Good alternative to the all inclusive”

Cancun Plaza Condo Hotel

We stayed at the Cancun Plaza Condos from Aug 16-Aug 19 2006 for $60 per night.

This is not a hotel. These are condos - there is no front desk - just the little office of the owners you are renting from. Don't go expecting to get waited on. This is the kind of place for people who like to do their own thing - no all inclusive here.

Our 1st room was a basic hotel room size with 2 double beds, a microwave, mini fridge & kitchenette area. It had a sink, dishes, toaster & coffeemaker. This room had a small balcony overlooking the pool. It has cable tv and a small table & chairs as well. We ended up having to switch rooms due to a toilet that didn't want to flush right but it was no big deal.

We moved next door which was bigger but only had a mini fridge & table & chairs. This room did not have a balcony (it was an adjoining room to the other one we just left) but we were ok with that as we were traveling with a climbing baby.

This hotel/condo has gotten a little older looking each time we come, but we still return year after year. Each condo units are owned by different owners. This is the key to getting a good room at a decent rate. Some there were paying $150 a night for the same kind of room we got for $60!

There are different types of rooms depending on your needs as some have kitchens and some don't. The pool is very nice & big with one side being a wading pool great for small children. The other half that overlooks the ocean is big but is only about 4 feet deep. No deep end here.

There is a small store there and also a woman who is selling fruits & pastries in the mornings. While we where there the small palapa bar where you could get snacks & drinks was being rebuilt as was the bigger store/& laundry. They are working hard to recover from Wilma and seem to be doing great. It will be a plus when this reopens as there is no restaurant onsite anymore.

The beach was huge! It was more than double the size it used to be. This is the southern end of the hotel zone, away from the bars and such so it is quieter, but only a short bus ride to get there if you want to go. This hotel is located a few buildings down from the Hilton as a reference.

Positives - very cheap, on a great stretch of beach, good security, nice pool, units are made to make you feel like you are at home.

Negatives - dated building, thin walls - you can hear people in the hallways very clearly, gaps around doors, bathrooms have that "sewer smell" (but I've smelled that in many hotels in Cancun).

We will definitely be back.

“Great location, excellent value”

Cancun Plaza Condo Hotel

I visited Mexico for the first time in August '05 and if I was to visit again, I would definately return here. If you're expecting a 5* All Inclusive resort, then this is not for you, but if you're looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful, you've come to the right place.

The complex is situated at the far end of the strip meaning that it's in a quiet, but very convenient and easily accessible location (buses/taxis are very cheap and very frequent and they stop right outside the complex.) You're well out of the way of the noise (and Cancun is very noisy) and the beach is really quiet. Rocks - there is a small strip of rocks at the water's edge, but they are easily avoided if you want to swim/snorkel. Don't let this put you off. The turtles eggs were hatching really close to the hotel whilst we were here, so if the beach is good enough for them, it's certainly good enough for me!!!

The rooms are basic and as they're privately owned, the decor varies considerably. We had our beds made, towels changed and the bathrooms cleaned on a daily basis. The rooms were more than adequate and had great views. Why would you need a luxury suite anyway in a country with as much to see and do as this? Surely if you expect one, you'd be paying a lot more than these prices?

The pool area was lovely and the beach couldn't have been more easily accessible. The food at the pool bar was really cheap and very tasty and the staff there were lovely.

Overall, this place is by no means perfect. If you want silk sheets and waiter service, be prepared to pay for it. If you want somewhere that's good value, to leave your bags and relax quietly by the pool from time to time, this is the place for you.
