“Just OK”

Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort

I have been a long time Hyatt user. It is usually a hotel of choice for us. I also own a Hyatt timeshare.

We booked the Hyatt Caribe to extend our Cancun stay after staying at a Royal Resorts timeshare.
Overall disappointed.

It started with our arrival. Check in wasnt crowed, but nobody at the Gold Passport Check in. Service was very slow at the front desk and they seemed very unorganized. Finally got my room, but really no outstanding service received. Basically just given a key and that was it.

Room was nice and clean. Great view of ocean. Blow dryer in the room did not work. Fan for air conditioning when put on low many noise. Water in shower would change from warm to steaming hot during your shower.

We at the breakfast buffet which was just OK... It was more of a Mexican breakfast buffet. While they did offer an omlette station, many of the items on the buffet were Mexican. Disappointing as more of the guests there were American.

Maid Service was good, but they do come late at night with a knock on the door asking if you need towels.

Shops in hotel do not seemed to be managed by the Hyatt. the store with film, candy, magazines, etc. did not take credit cards and could not charge to your room.

The hotel is also home to Royal Vacations, which is from what I hear a horrible timeshare program. They lure people from the airports with free trips, free taxis and then give them a free breakfast or lunch for exchange of a high pressure sales presentation which I hear could take 4 to 5 hours. Many people that have signed up have felt that they were scammed. I was dissapointed to hear that they Hyatt would allow such things to go on in their hotel as the Hyatt does have their own timeshare division (not at this hotel), which is extremely reputable.

Check out was horrible as well. Person at the gold passport desk was at his computer. I approched and he told me that he was not open and to wait on the regular line. After waiting there, a clerk took over 20 minutes to check me out.

OK , while I stated that the Hotel was just ok, let me change that. This is a 5 star name hotel that is offering services like a 3 star location. Thats not right as there are many other choices in Cancun.

We recently returned from The Hyatt Caribe Resort. We arrived the Week of February 17, 2008- February 24, 2008. My husband andI liked the hotel and the room which faced the pool and ocean. It was nice but not a 4 star hotel quality. The front desk was not accomodating to us and seemed somewhat not together. The wait staff and the hotel service in general was very slow and it was not a crowded resort. This was not an inclusive resort but operated like one. The Hyatt was relaxing and the weather was perfect. We have been to many Hyatt properties and were not impressed with this one. I chose the Hyatt because of its solid standing as a hotel chain. There are many hotels on this strip and they all look the same as the Hyatt. What was nice about the Hyatt was it was very quiet and we could really relax and do nothing.

My family and I just returned from a weeks stay at the Cancun Hyatt Caribe. We're frequent travellers, and this was our 3rd trip to Cancun in the last 4 years. We've done all-inclusive prior and this time we wanted the freedom to go out more and chose the Hyatt based on reviews here and recommendation from our travel agent. Biggest mistake we ever made. But to be fair, I'll start with the positives. The beach here was not as affected by the hurricanes and was beautiful. The pool is nice and the staff by the pool were attentive and polite.
Now the negatives:
ROOM: I'm not sure where they found enough rocks to shove into the mattresses and pillows, but they were horribly uncomfortable. The air conditioning thermostat only went down to 70 degrees, but it never cooled the room lower than 74. One of the three rooms we had had NO drawers. When we asked for drawers, a luggage rack was sent up! The card keys kept demagnetizing, each room at least twice during the week. Maid service would knock on your door after 10 at night to see if you needed towels...nice to be asked, but not when you have sleeping kids.
FOOD: Not bad but not a lot of variety. The problem came at check out. There were many charges that shouldn't have been on our bill that they were fighting us on to take off. Then they told us they were taking them off and didn't...they play a lot of games like that.
OTHER: On our second night, we saw them setting up large speakers right outside our room. We were told they were having a party there because it was too windy to have it where they usually have it - by the pool. The manager, Alexander, did not feel it was a problem blasting music outside of your room until 11:00. Contrary to what they may tell you, this clearly is not a place for kids.

Overall, I was beyond dissatisfied...even my 8 year old said he didn't want to come back here. Hyatt should be embarrassed to have it's name on this hotel.

“Beautiful beach & pools, great staff!”

Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort

Recently stayed at Hyatt Cancun Caribe, traveled with female friend. No complaints about the hotel, beach was perfect, there were two pools. The location of the hotel was great; there was a bus stop right in front and it was a short ride to the City Center. We made the mistake of using cabs for the first two days. The bus is a much better option. Our room was large and clean and had a nice view of the ocean. We liked the café in the hotel and got our coffee, lunch and late-nights snacks there. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. This is a great hotel for families and couples because it’s very quiet.

“Rude, Poor Service Bait and Switch on Room Type Beware!”

Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort

Feb 21, 2008

We recently booked a Regency Suite thru the Hotel. We called and made the reservation in advance and were assured that we would be in a Suite for $500 per nite, and received an email confirming the room type. Upon arrival, we were put in a regular room, without even being told that they didnt have any suites available. We went to the front desk, where the "manager" simply told us there were no suites available and the only room available was the one they put us in. The manager was extremely rude and offered no solution or apology. He basically said "too bad". We checked out of the hotel immediately and went to the Marriott Casa Magna where we were treated like royalty. The Hyatt Caribe hotel lobby was dank and unkept. If you care about they type of room that you reserve, this is definately NOT the place to go!
