I cashed in my GoldPassport points to use for three nights in their Regency Club's King Deluxe Room. We did witness the "Do not bring outside food" policy in action while we were in line waiting to check in. Apparently the guests were trying to get Dominos to deliver, but I did not realize the extent of the policy until I read more reviews that they actually confiscated bags of snacks.
We were escorted by a very friendly and cheerful bellhop who waited while we checked in the Regency Club check in. They offered us wine, drinks and snacks while we waited to check in. I have never done this before but they wanted me to sign a credit card slip for 3000 pesos as an advanced charge. I realize this is common practice when you sign your hotel agreement to get your keys in the US and they put a hold for portion of your stay, but it gave me concern to actually sign a credit card receipt, which my husband reassured me would be ok. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that our free room came with complimentary continental breakfast, hor d'oeuvres desserts and drinks. There are some suggestions I'll make as to why I have not given this experience an "excellent rating"
Cons
Room Location
As I was using points, they gave us what I considered was the most undesirable Club King Deluxe room they had in terms of location. Room 2107. I counted the number of couples that ate and drank with us in the Regency Club lounge and I know that it was not in full capacity during the 3 nights we stayed so they could have given us a better location if they had wanted to than the one directly next to the Regency club lounge's kitchen and directly to the right of the covered dining area Patio on the 1st floor. This was not the most desirable room b/c people who wanted to take a shortcut could cut over infront of the grass area in front of our patio to get to Regency club patio and down to the beach below. So we were forced to draw our drapes shut at sundown which I can tell you is a waste, especially for the spectacular view and proximity we had of the Gulf of Mexico.
Noise Carries
The walls were paper thin, where we could hear the chairs being pushed in the Regency club dining room in the early mornings and the people talking in the veranda area in the morning. I don't know why all hotel doors bang but it was worse here. And thank goodness the regency club rooms were not in full capacity b/c i knew exactly when my upstairs neighbors showered to the hour, you could hear the water and pipes, everything.
The Bed Mattress
This I have to include for my husband who complained that the bed was too firm. I adjusted fine, he had trouble.
Hotel Internet Access
We paid to use the hotel's computer to check our emails, but 30 minutes went by so fast, most of it trying to connect to our Comcast mailcenter.
***BEWARE OF THE CHANGE YOU RECEIVE** at the Coffeeshop/Icecream/Snack Shop
My husband realized he was shortchanged on the 1st day, when on the 2nd day he ordered the same espresso drink and received more change than the prior day. They gave him only 1/3 of his change the 1st day.We have NEVER experienced this anywhere @ any other hotel, anywhere in the world. How sad that it had to be occur @ the Hyatt.
****Be careful while reviewing your bill**** they upgraded their computer systems on Feb 25th so just be mindful of what you know should be on your bill. It took about 4 attempts before our bill was in the proximity it was suppose to be.
Pros
The Regency Club serving staff were very friendly and always had a smile on their faces.
Our room was exactly the way it was portrayed in the virtual tour and it was clean, well appointed , spacious, nicely decorated and exactly in the excellent standard of other Park Hyatt rooms that we've stayed in. Housekeeping always made sure we had clean towels for the night and we were never interrupted. Not sure why but we were missing an ironing board and iron.
I have never seen any hotel serious about cleaniless. Everytime I turned around someone was washing windows or floors or something. And we witnessed someone mopping our floors after finishing the regular daily housekeeping work while we walked by our room hoping to be able to take a rinse after our jump in the ocean.
Tips
If you are staying for a long duration, it makes economic sense to tip the pool staff who are in charge setting up the umbrellas, day bed reservations, etc. I can tell you that 20 pesos goes a long way when he remembers you the next day and gives you prompt attention when you need something on subsequent days.
Don't rent a car unless you absolutely need it. We overheard a hotel guest report to the front desk that a cop pulled him over for speeding and gave him a choice of a ticket or paying the cop 1500 pesos or he would take away his drivers license. As he had his children in the car, he gave him what he had 1000 pesos and left very shocked by the experience. I have heard this happen to one of my former coworkers who was driving near Mexico City.
