We stayed at the Hyatt for two nights to finish our Mexican holiday.

We arrived at the hotel at 3pm. We were told that our room wouldn't be ready for another 1.5 hour.

My husband is a Gold passport member and had never experienced that kind of service at any Hyatt before. When we insisted, the guy who was handling us passed us on to his colleague! She told us that a room was ready but it was a double room. We had a confirmation for a king and were starting to feel quite annoyed at that stage so kept insisting a getting the room we had booked. The clerk agreed to speed things along and called on the walkie talkie to make sure the room was cleaned as a priority. As she said in Spanish "Hurry up. He (my husband) is one of "those" clients." She obviously assumed we couldn't understand Spanish. Lovely!

After 45min, we finally got to our room. The rooms are nice as they all face the sea. The view was beautiful from our 5th level room. We enjoyed our stay in the end but made sure we didn't have to deal with the front desk.
They have nice day beds around the smaller pool that you have to book in advance.

Would think twice before recommending it because of the service.

“Very disappointed”

I really don't know how or where to start but from the time we walked through the front door we thought we were in the wrong hotel. Is this the Hyatt? No way! No lobby, no entertainment, no restaurant other than Creole or super dryied out buffet food. Lunch time was a joke, no finger food to be seen. Crappy patty like burger which was suppose to be sirloin but looked like it came out of a box. ($16.00!) Don't plan on getting any rest here between the disco accross the street (sun-wed) they have noice until 5:30am. and yes you can hear it from your room! The premier building and the Regency building are further into the property but we did not want to invest any more money into this hotel because they had nothing to offer. Our hotel was prepaid so we could not do anything about it. We ended up buying day passes at the Royal and the rest of the vacation day passes at the Riu Palace. I know Hyatt is not an all inclusive but we went there expecting some nice ambiance, restaurant, bar etc etc. we could not spend our money there even if we wanted to. We ended up taking taxi and buses to go outside of our hotel to get food and enternainment.

Besides food and entertainment, as i mentioned before there was no sleep to be had. Between the disco and the PEACOCKS yelling on the premises (why on earth would they have these animals roaming their premises when they make so much noise???) I am not a difficult person to please but you must stay away from this hotel. It is not a vacation spot. The ocean was not swimable because it is too rough. The position of the hotel was high up on hill so when we stayed at the Regency/Premier building pool area which is where the nice beds/chairs are the wind was so strong we thought the beds were going to fly away and if you do not feel like paying $25.00 to rent one per day the you have to ask for an umbrella which most of the time they could not put up because of the wind. I have written to the Hyatt and made a major complaint because they classify this as a 5 star hotel. It is far from it and it is money thrown away and a vacation lost! I don't think there is enough space to write everything wrong with this hotel, it was that bad.

p.s. yes the rooms have a great view but so do almost all the other hotels in Cancun.

“Good Place to Stay in Cancun”

Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort

My friend and I spent 4 nights at the Hyatt Cancun Caribe hotel in Cancun in February 2008. It is a good hotel with very nice rooms, good service, and in a very good location on the hotel strip.

Rooms: We had reserved through Travelocity at good rates for a standard ocean view room, which would have been in the large main building. On check-in, were upgraded free of charge to a Regency Club room. The Regency Club section is in a new smaller building right on the beach. These rooms were beautifully decorated, with plasma TV on the wall, a jacuzzi in the bathroom (with a screen between the main room & bathroom that could be lowered by a touch of a button), and a very comfortable bed. The shower was just amazing with at least 4 jets (large overhead & on the sides). The view from the room was fantastic with the ocean literally just a few steps from our terrace. Wonderful!

Food: All the hotel restaurants are fairly expensive. We did not eat breakfast or lunch at the hotel (breakfast buffet for $20 US each is ridiculous). We did try the dinner buffet which was Italian that night (seems to change themes each night) which was quite good for the price ($26 US each). We also tried the Blue Bayou cajun/creole restaurant at the hotel which was OK but a bit expensive for what you get; nice décor though. Outside the hotel we ate at Lorenzillo’s seafood nearby twice for dinner; the food was very good with a very nice atmosphere right on the lagoon.

Service: We found the service at the hotel was always good, both the front desk and the daily maid service were friendly and efficient. The only negative point was during check-out, the front desk calls someone to check your mini bar. Keep this in mind as it makes check-out very time-consuming (and we were only a few people checking out at the time). Also, they claimed some mini bar charges for items we did not take, we objected and they dropped it.

Grounds/pools etc: The hotel grounds and pools (2) are very beautiful and well maintained. There are some peacocks roaming around that are interesting but can be a bit noisy when they screech.

Beach: The hotel beach is quite large and very nice. We walked a bit on the beach to other hotels nearby, Some had no beach at all! The ocean here is quite rough most of the time so if you want to swim, be extremely careful. There is a life guard on duty.

Location: The hotel is within easy walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, bars and several very nice malls. Buses are dirt cheap (65 pesos) and they take you everywhere in the hotel strip and also to downtown Cancun for that price.

Summary: All in all, we feel the Hyatt Cancun Caribe is a good choice for a hotel in Cancun. Especially if you do not like the big all-inclusive hotels of which they are many in Cancun.

We had a horrible stay at the Hyatt Caribe and spent the week figuring out ways to be gone from the hotel as much as possible. The front desk was rude. The beds were horrible, and the pillows flat and rock hard. The sheets were too small for the beds and couldn't be tucked in around the mattress. Toiletries were not replaced unless we called the front desk to ask for more. The room was hot and humid, and the thermostat couldn't be lowered. We were charged for drinks and candy from the mini bar that we didn't have. I talked to the front desk about removing the charges three times, and they refused. Then they said that they were going to "lock" our mini bar because we had stored a couple of yogurts from a grocery store in it, because that is against their policy. The restaurants were extremely expensive, empty and boring. The two positives were the pool and the shower, which was large and had three sprayers. We have stayed in Hyatts all over Canada and the USA, including fantastic resorts in Maui and Kaui, and this is the only one that really stunk. I had booked this through the Hyatt website, and prices were about $250 a night.

I cashed in my GoldPassport points to use for three nights in their Regency Club's King Deluxe Room. We did witness the "Do not bring outside food" policy in action while we were in line waiting to check in. Apparently the guests were trying to get Dominos to deliver, but I did not realize the extent of the policy until I read more reviews that they actually confiscated bags of snacks.
We were escorted by a very friendly and cheerful bellhop who waited while we checked in the Regency Club check in. They offered us wine, drinks and snacks while we waited to check in. I have never done this before but they wanted me to sign a credit card slip for 3000 pesos as an advanced charge. I realize this is common practice when you sign your hotel agreement to get your keys in the US and they put a hold for portion of your stay, but it gave me concern to actually sign a credit card receipt, which my husband reassured me would be ok. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that our free room came with complimentary continental breakfast, hor d'oeuvres desserts and drinks. There are some suggestions I'll make as to why I have not given this experience an "excellent rating"

Cons
Room Location
As I was using points, they gave us what I considered was the most undesirable Club King Deluxe room they had in terms of location. Room 2107. I counted the number of couples that ate and drank with us in the Regency Club lounge and I know that it was not in full capacity during the 3 nights we stayed so they could have given us a better location if they had wanted to than the one directly next to the Regency club lounge's kitchen and directly to the right of the covered dining area Patio on the 1st floor. This was not the most desirable room b/c people who wanted to take a shortcut could cut over infront of the grass area in front of our patio to get to Regency club patio and down to the beach below. So we were forced to draw our drapes shut at sundown which I can tell you is a waste, especially for the spectacular view and proximity we had of the Gulf of Mexico.
Noise Carries
The walls were paper thin, where we could hear the chairs being pushed in the Regency club dining room in the early mornings and the people talking in the veranda area in the morning. I don't know why all hotel doors bang but it was worse here. And thank goodness the regency club rooms were not in full capacity b/c i knew exactly when my upstairs neighbors showered to the hour, you could hear the water and pipes, everything.
The Bed Mattress
This I have to include for my husband who complained that the bed was too firm. I adjusted fine, he had trouble.
Hotel Internet Access
We paid to use the hotel's computer to check our emails, but 30 minutes went by so fast, most of it trying to connect to our Comcast mailcenter.
***BEWARE OF THE CHANGE YOU RECEIVE** at the Coffeeshop/Icecream/Snack Shop
My husband realized he was shortchanged on the 1st day, when on the 2nd day he ordered the same espresso drink and received more change than the prior day. They gave him only 1/3 of his change the 1st day.We have NEVER experienced this anywhere @ any other hotel, anywhere in the world. How sad that it had to be occur @ the Hyatt.
****Be careful while reviewing your bill**** they upgraded their computer systems on Feb 25th so just be mindful of what you know should be on your bill. It took about 4 attempts before our bill was in the proximity it was suppose to be.

Pros
The Regency Club serving staff were very friendly and always had a smile on their faces.
Our room was exactly the way it was portrayed in the virtual tour and it was clean, well appointed , spacious, nicely decorated and exactly in the excellent standard of other Park Hyatt rooms that we've stayed in. Housekeeping always made sure we had clean towels for the night and we were never interrupted. Not sure why but we were missing an ironing board and iron.
I have never seen any hotel serious about cleaniless. Everytime I turned around someone was washing windows or floors or something. And we witnessed someone mopping our floors after finishing the regular daily housekeeping work while we walked by our room hoping to be able to take a rinse after our jump in the ocean.

Tips
If you are staying for a long duration, it makes economic sense to tip the pool staff who are in charge setting up the umbrellas, day bed reservations, etc. I can tell you that 20 pesos goes a long way when he remembers you the next day and gives you prompt attention when you need something on subsequent days.

Don't rent a car unless you absolutely need it. We overheard a hotel guest report to the front desk that a cop pulled him over for speeding and gave him a choice of a ticket or paying the cop 1500 pesos or he would take away his drivers license. As he had his children in the car, he gave him what he had 1000 pesos and left very shocked by the experience. I have heard this happen to one of my former coworkers who was driving near Mexico City.
