My boyfriend and I went to Cancun Caribe (which was a Hyatt when we went in Sept. 08) for our one year anniversary. We booked the trip through jetblue and paid an amazing price for four days. The only setback was that the food is ridiculously over-priced which we discovered right when we got there and ordered lunch for two that came out to 45 us dollars. Therefore, we ventured off to the strip every night and ate at several delicious restaurants like Bubba Gumps and Lemoncellos.
The room was absolutely amazing for the price. We had no problems in terms of cleanliness and comfort. We had a balcony room and a king size, there was not much more we could ask for. We definitely took advantage of the balcony view, it was gorgeously overlooking the pool and the view was just amazing at night. We sat on the balcony every night and listened to music and the waves, it was breathtaking.
When we went we did not have to pay to use the safe, so relied on it to hold our posessions when we went off the hotel premises. Also, they do not allow you to bring back food or drinks into the hotel and while this did not stop us we did wish we could enjoy our drinks instead of having to sneak them in.
The cabana's by the pool were amazing and we always received great service. The beach was at a red flag so we admired from the rocks overlooking the waves. It was nice either way.
Beware of the hagglers. My boyfriend used the bathroom at the aiport and a guy simply gave him a tissue to wipe his hands and the man asked for a tip. The same holds true for anywhere around the hotel. There is a market nearby that is fairly cheap to buy souvenirs and bottled water but they are always trying to get money out of you. Just say no and keep walking, they'll back off.
We did only one excursion but it was well worth the price. It was a full day excursion and I think we paid 40 dollars each and took a boat (loaded with free drinks of your choice, sex on the beach was the best) to an island (isla mujeres) where we went scuba diving and had a lunch buffet waiting for us when we got there. The buffet food was amazing and held true to mexican cuisine. After lunch we enjoyed the beach and had amazing massages at a reasonable price. We then had about two hours to rent golf carts and cruise the island. We ventured off and found pyramids and other great sites for kodak moments. We arrived back at the hotel around 7 pm that night and ate out.
We loved this hotel even though it could use some improvement. Jetblue had an awesome deal going and I couldn't have wanted more. I highly recommend.
