We just returned from our 3rd vacation at the Hyatt Cancun Caribe. For those of you who want a georgous beach where you can relax and not have people 6 inches from you this is the place. No music blasting on the beach and a fantastic staff - very helpful! GREAT margaritas!
It does not have all the bells and whistles of the big resorts, but that's not what we come to Cancun for. We come for peace and quiet and a relaxing beach experience. The hotel is wonderfully clean and all rooms have a georgous ocean view. We were there over spring break for many and NO crazy spring break stuff here. This is not a kids place. One note: if you do come during spring break, the night clubs blast there music until 6 am and you can hear the bass pounding everywhere on Fri and Sat nights. Best to come when the kids are all gone.

My stay was for four days! They were the best days ever! The hotel was beautiful the service was great. My family and I made so many friends with the workers at the hotel and we are hoping to go back next year to see them. The best thing to do is to upgrade to a villa, the villas are about 10 feet away from the beach and im not exagerating at all! I loved it so much! It was nice because with the villa a few times a day you get special drinks for free and free breakfest. It was amazing and while i was there my daughter even got to learn some more spanish from the workers, they took the time for her and that meant a lot to me and the rest of the family! Well i hope you make the best desicion i loved this hotel and i will go back agian as soon as i can!

I love Cancun for being Cancun. Meaning, cheap hotels, tons of fun and great beaches. I go once a year (I'm a world traveler and Cancun still cannot be beat for the overall value) and stay at a different property every time I go. The beds are typical Cancun cheapos and I actually woke up several nights due to a numb butt they were so hard. My girlfriend slipped and fell down the stairs (covered with water from godknowswhere) and cracked her hip, leaving a nice bruise. We complained, not to get an upgrade but to let them know someone else will fall. They never removed the water and we saw two other people fall. When we went back to RE tell them to remove the puddles, they sort of pushed us off. I complained the next day that we weren't listened to and showed them my GFs bruise. They offered us an upgrade, for $40 a day! I laughed and ended up writing Hyatt's corporate people. They made good and offered me points on my Hyatt rewards but it still is a fact that this is just another dumpy Candun hotel. I'd rather go to the bigger resorts and have more stuff to do. On an upside, they didn't have a kids club so there were no kids running around, which was nice.

My husband and I have just returned from one week (Feb 5 to Feb 13, 2005) in Cancun and one week in Merida. The Hyatt Caribe is a lovely, well kept older hotel built on an incredible white sand beach. The staff in all cases were friendly and very polite. Please remember, people, to be polite yourselves!!

We had a slight glitch upon arrival, but my husband did not scream and pound his fist on the counter. We were offered another (lovely) room in the hotel for the night and the next morning we were taken by golf cart to our room for the remainder of our stay.

We enjoyed having a very nice dinner in the Blue Bayou. The live Jazz band starts every evening at 8pm til 10:30 pm. Cafe Sol (open 24 hours) in the lobby carries a tasty selection of pastries, fresh made sandwiches and coffee. My personal favourite was the puff pastry with fresh fruit and sweet cream filling. The fresh made sandwiches were excellent 650 pesos ($6.50), and were more than big enough to share with my husband.

The hotel has a contingent of Royal Vacations personnel stationed in the lobby annex along with tour personnel. A polite "No Gracias Senora or Senor" was all that was needed to fend them off. This was not a big deal.

We had a lovely time at the Hyatt Caribe and look forward to our next stay.

Other places we tried while in Cancun: Casa de las Margaritas in the Isla Shopping Center for great dinner and live Mariachi Band.

The Plantation (within walking distance of the Hyatt). Get the hotel to make the reservation for a much better table. Great seafood. We sat at a table looking out over the bay. No shorts or T-shirts here. It is a little more pricey.

Maria Bonita (60 pesos cab ride from Hyatt Caribe). Very close to the Fiesta Americana. Very beautiful restaurant with delicious Mexican food. A little pricey. I did not wear shorts or T-shirt here. Get the hotel to make the reservation.

Carlos n Charlies in the Forum Shopping Centre. What a fun - shorts and tee shirt place with great food, great music. We had fun people watching.

Cambalache the Argentine Steak House in the Forum Shopping Centre. Pricey, wear something nice, great steak - huge steaks!!

Pat O'Briens - This is a Tshirt and shorts kind of place with great burgers, fries, shrimp, ribs. Great loud music and a big dance floor - so get out there.

Also, there are all kinds of markets within walking distance for water and snackies and beer.

Have fun in Cancun, please don't be rude and do not forget to tip

bye for now.
Kathleen

We loved the Hyatt Caribe - we had a room on the first floor with a 2 level patio - gorgeous ! Many peacocks wandering the premises. Avoid the Royal "information counters" - they were a nuisance on the first floor outside of our room (103 - 105), high pressure tactics. Just avoid eye contact with them and keep walking. We read a review ahead of time that this property doesn't allow food or drink brought in....we can prepared with canvas tote bags to put our water and food items in that were purchased . We actually overheard someone at the front desk stating that food and drink could not be brought in. Bagels were $4.50 apiece in the coffee shop and a 10 oz. water was $6.00. We got exceptional deals on water and breakfast items at Walmart. It was worth the trip by bus there. Just don't carry anything back in the original bag- we had no problems with it. The best Mexican restaurant was in La Isla Mall, called Las Margaritas. It was beautiful with authentic costumes and entertainment.
