The pools are cold but the ocean & beach are terrific. After a storm blew in, the beach disappeared but I'm sure when the winds calmed down the beach would come back again. We left before that happened. See pictures of the beach & resort. Also, this hotel is in the middle of the hotels-which is what you want. If you can't afford the Ritz, or Marriott Cassamonga, or the JK next to the Marriott than this would be the next best.
Don't forget your in Mexico & they all think we are rich so everything will cost you. Unless you fight for your benefits on your reservation, forget getting them. Once you establish to the waiters at the pool bar that you will tip them nicely if they give you the benefits you deserve, such as, kids eat free. Tip the maids also & you will have a nice stay. Never leave your valuables in the room-anyone can come in while the maid is cleaning & clean you out. They do not know if its your room or not. The maids are not security. While we were there, some poor lady had her wallet stolen. They do have security walking all over, but its too easy for someone to go in while the maid is in the bathroom & take things. Also, get the upgrade when you book. It is worth every penny. Every room at the place is ocean view so don't get stuck in the old rooms-they are right in front of the pool & then the ocean view. Also, they are old. The newer ones are in the tower or the way right of the main building. These are nicer, bigger rooms. On the details of the room on hotel.com it was listed backwards. These rooms are almost 400 sq not the main rooms. These rooms are quiet & have a full unobstructed view of the ocean & down the beach, which is what you want when you stay in Cancun! This hotel is also great because there is never a problem getting a chair. No matter what time you arrive, there are plenty of beds & chairs to lay on. That was nice-we went during spring break-yet we had no loud teens!
This was not a all enclusive, but we found teens & people w/out little kids are there & they tend to be loud & into party life. This place is more quiet. For older ones, honeymooners, and familes. Much quieter than most places. The origial building is older, but very unique. You don't see woodwork like that anymore. Oh, everything in Mexico seems to be made from that cobble stone, so bring a stroler w/good wheels & ware good shoes-its rough!
If you go to Playa, don't eat in town!! We were at a nice rest w/bottled water, but we all got so sick! You don't know how they prepare the food. Eat at your hotel where the water is treated & you won't get sick from the food.
