This is not your Marriot, Hilton or (put any hotel chain name here), but it delivers. I booked this hotel to stay in Cancun while attending a congress. I only needed a place to sleep. This hotel is located in downtown. It's not on a main avenue so the impact of traffic or noise is very small. The rooms are clean and average in size. No luxury but nothing is missing. The bathroom had some crappy looking fixtures but everything worked. The service was good in general. There is a restaurant on premises with a nice selection. However, within walking distance (3-4 blocks) I could count not less than 20 restaurants and night clubs. You can also find phone cabins and Internet access around the place. Taxi to the beach can be a little bit expensive (10-15 USD) but you can walk three blocks and take a bus (less that 1 dollar) that takes you to the beach zone.
My only two complains were: Hot water takes an eternity to come out (last day I actually timed it and it took close to 5 minutes of running water to get it warm enough for my taste) and noisy A/C (but I turned it off and that was it).

For 50 USD/night it's more than I asked.

My boyf and I stayed at this hotel because we wanted something for a cheap price for a one night stay in Cancun before we headed to our rented condo the next day. I actually liked Downtown Cancun, so location wise, it wasn't a problem.

I booked online for $51 w/ tax included.

We got to the hotel around 1 a.m., due to flight delays. After we dropped our bags in the room we were thirsty so decided to walk down to the store nextdoor to buy some water. When we came back up to the room, the door wouldn't open w/ the electronic key! The manager on duty said "None of the keys are working right now. You just have to let us know when you need to be let back in." So they sent a maintenance guy up to try to pry the door open. He started using a clothes hanger to try to open it, making a lot of noise during the process, yet it still wouldn't open.

After 15minutes of working w/ the hanger, he decided to get a flathead screwdiver and was able to finally pop the lock open. We finally got into the place and we were ready to go to bed when my boyf realized the toilet wasn't flushing. The same maintenance came up and worked on it for 30minutes and never got it working correctly.
We just dealt w/ the fact that it would flush, but take 30minutes to refill the toilet bowl.:-) So no back-to-back toilet use. haha!

The room was furnished well, but the room we had was next to the street. It was kinda noisy, but we were tired so it didn't really bother me.

The next day, while I was downstairs looking at the breakfast menu, I
complained to the day manager about what happened the night before and he actually comped us for the breakfast buffet. Finally, something decent out of this place!

When we went back to our room after breakfast, we had to wait for someone to try to open the door. I decided to shimmy the door open w/
the door cardkey, and lo and behold it popped right open. Safety concern?

Overall, I felt $50 might've been too much to pay for this place! If
you walk-in, the price is almost $80!! I would not pay that much for this place.

The Downtown area is exciting and fun though. Wish we could've hung around there more, but it was raining so we didn't get to walk around
too much.

We stayed at the Margaritas on 12/20/06. I found it to be a fairly standard Mexican 2+ star hotel. The rooms were clean, but nothing special. The airconditioning worked, but smelled so moldy that we had to sleep with it off. We were charged an extra $15.00 each for our two children, which we were not expecting.
Other than the annoying time share salespersons in the lobby, the staff was helpful. Did not eat at the restaraunt, there are better ones down the block.

  • Liked — It was fairly quiet and had off street parking
  • Disliked — airconditioning that smelled moldy, paying extra for kids.

I am surprised by the many negative reviews. Booking into a downtown hotel at that cheap rate and expecting the Ritz leads to disappointment. If you want to be on the beach, shell out the dough or be ready to ride the bus for a whopping 65cents. Many Mexican travelers stay here or have parties. The noise level can be high, but instead of complaining you might try wrangling an invitation and joining the Quinceañera or wedding festivities. Located on the main drag of the downtown bar scene, expect traffic and late night noise.

I have stayed here several times and paid $10 for a bed in the penthouse suite by booking on a hostel site. I have had the 2 rooms, 6 beds, 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms and living room to myself. Other times I have shared with other travelers and still had my own room. If the rate is available, you can book all 6 beds for around $70. During one visit a family had booked 5 beds and I had reserved the 6th, I was given a regular room for the same rate during holiday season.

I found the beds to be comprable to others in Mexico, not too great but not too hard. My room was cleaned everyday by the hardworking women. Please leave a tip daily or a small gift, if you wish for holidays. The A/C blasts cold air and my TV's worked fine for late night viewing. How much are you in a hotel room anyway? Yes, the common areas are hot and the pool is in the shade most of the day.

The staff primarily speaks Spanish and guests should attempt to speak the language of the county. My limited skills during my first visit were enough and some staff do speak English.

If you are high maintenence, don't stay here! If you are looking for a place to sleep without spending a lot, Margaritas is just fine.

Let me start by saying. This is not the Four Seasons.

What are you expecting though?? The bottom line is, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for creature comforts, go to the Hotel Zone and spend $200 per night. If you're looking for a nice place to sleep after a day at the beach, in the pool or out on the town, this is the place for you!

I paid $38 US per night and can tell you that there is NO BETTER VALUE in the area. We we're greeted upon arrival by a very nice English speaking man who helped us park our car and carry our bags in.

Check-In went smooth and it was off to the rooms. If you want an idea of what the rooms look like, check out the website. It is identical.

After we settled in, we took the advice of the concierge and went to a restaurant down the street. There are literally 20-30 restaurants and bars within walking distance of this hotel. After dinner and plenty of drinks, we went back to the hotel bar and had a night cap. The Hotel restaurant is outside and the service was great.

DO NOT hesitate to book this hotel. Again, it provides excellent value and is in a good, fun, safe area.
