I've traveled to Cancun twice and have experience traveling in other countries. But this hotel is the worst experience. My friends chose the hotel and were on a budget so they chose the Holiday Inn Express. When we arrived, they were over booked. Our student travel agency took us to the Mexhotel. They said it would just be for one night until unless we wanted to stay for the week. We looked around the hotel lobby and peeked in some of the rooms on the first floor. They rooms looked ok, marble floors, clean. Then we agreed to stay the entire week and were given a room key. Our rooms were awful. The floors had old dirty tile and it looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in weeks. The shower curtain had a rip in it about a foot long and it was a foot short so every time we showered water went all over the bathroom. The drains didn't work well so you'd stand in inches of water while applying make-up, doing your hair, etc. The toilets never flushed. The beds had one flat sheet, no fitted sheet and just the ugly old bedspread that they never wash. I argued with the maid about getting a 2nd sheet - I had to pay her $2 for it. But then the next day it would be gone. We tried to change rooms but everything was booked. We tried to have our travel agency change hotels but they claimed everything was booked (the travel agency is another story). We complained to the front desk about the floors, they said they would get cleaned .never did we complained every day. We'd use towels to soak up all the water all over the counters in the bathroom and other places and the towels were always dirty. They never left fresh towels. Our phone didn't work, so we had to go down to the front desk to ask for towels, toilet paper, etc. They would never give it to us at the front desk, they said someone would bring it. Sometimes we'd wait an hour. Everyday the power and/or water would be out for an hour or so. The hotel is near the end of the strip, so it was a really long bus ride to get to the restaurants, shops and nightlife. We had 8 people in our group, 4 in each room. The first night out, we decided to take one key since the rooms were connected. Leaving the connecting doors unlocked, but locking the front doors. We didn't notice until the next day, that the key to our room was gone. We thought we'd just misplaced but we couldn't find it. We had to pay $10 to get a new key. The next night we put it on the shelf and the next morning, it was gone. Later that week, while we were sleeping, we caught an employee going through our stuff. Of course the hotel didn't do a thing. By the end of the week we were so happy to get out of there, we checked out and went to the airport. Of course our travel agency, e-student travel screwed up our flight and we were stuck. We spent all day at the airport until they picked us up that night and took us back to the Mexhotel. I demanded another room and they gave one to me, but it was worse. It had not been cleaned (it was 10pm), garbage everywhere, and it stunk because the previous guest filled the toilet to the brim. They did send a maid up to clean it right away. But I was so glad to get out of that hotel the next day. I think the Mexhotel has changed names since my visit to Cancun.
