What a wonderful, memorable trip we had. Unfortunately, upon our arrival the first thing we did was get taken to the cleaners by a cabbie. (know the money before you go) Once we made it to the Solymar we were pleased to be greeted by wonderful people who immediately did what they could to accomodate us since we arrived early. We changed and went down poolside and exploring, It was beautiful! Our room was just ok, if you needed a place to lay your head and didnt intend on spending a lot of time in the room ours was fine. It overlooked the parking lot on the side of the building, it was clean and smelled of bleach so we knew someone was doing some cleaning. The room was really pretty bland, nothing fancy. No remote for our TV, although we dont watch much TV that would have been convenient at bedtime. If you just need a clean place to lay your head this works. The staff were all wonderful and very helpful. The food could have stood some improvement, thebars were great.The bar staff were a lot of fun..if you are looking for 4 star this isnt it although it is a clean decent 3 star. I would go back just because my hubby and I dont like all the fancy and busy stuff. Again the staff was wonderful ...and it is very clean and pleasing to the eye. I would recommend Solymar to friends if they are looking for an economical vacation. My hubby being an airline employee passes on what he knows to many others. We stayed with my husband for a quick weekend from friday to monday and I didn't want to leave, it is such a pretty boutique hotel compared to the huge buildings, they really notice you and make your stay as pleasant as possible, they have great facilities, cocktails are great and the rooms they all have a view, great food, would recommend to anyone looking for a great, good price stay in Cancun

I had booked a reservation through Michelle & Peter for arrival in June 2008 and unfortunately was unable to take my trip. Michelle took great care of me and held my deposit until I was able to rebook.

Upon arrival on April 18th we checked in directly with Michelle and she personally showed us to our room. We rented the penthous suite 2702 & 2802 with a roof top terrace. We had it all to ourselves, the views were wonderful of both the lagoon and beach. The beds were comfortable, the pillows were awsome and the kitchen was well equipt. My 6 year old son & I both enjoyed the pools and he actually learned to swim all by himself in the Solymar pool. The beach was great, the waves were a little rough but we had lots of fun playing in them.

Throughout our short stay I contacted Michelle several times to ask questions and she was always ready and willing to help. She went above and beyond to see that we were happy any comfortable in our room and at the resort. We frequently travel to Mexico although this was our first time in Cancun/Yucatan but now Cancun will definately be on the repeat visit list!

My wife and I checked-in at 3:30 a.m. after 7 hours of weather related flight delays. The room (No. 3007) had no A/C and had bugs. There was mold and mildew across all of the ceiling and the vents. There were no clocks in the room, no remote for the T.V. and the phones in the entire hotel didn't work. The next day we were told that the hotel was sold out and no other rooms were available. After a second night in misery we were able to get another room. It had A/C but no phone or TV remote. The food was deplorable. At breakfast they had a product labeled "Pork Sausage" that was nothing more than sliced hot dogs. The food was never covered or kept hot (above 140 degrees F.). They had one flavor of beer (woo hoo!!) and the bartender on the first night didn't know how to make a "rum & coke" drink. The beds were hard as a rock, and so were the pillows. I have to say that the staff overall was really nice, I only wish they represented a better hotel. Lastly, I was asked for the T.V. remote when we checked-out; I thought the desk clerk was crazy!!!
