Visited the Barcelo Tucancun Beach on August 12th-27th 2008 and had a wonderful time.
Only problems we had were with First Choice Travel who sent wrong room information to the hotel, gave a bad in-air service and made my Son and myself sit apart for the 11 hour return flight..
anyway...back to the hotel...

Arrived from the airport at around 9pm, late due to delays with firstchoice..
checked in quickly and easily and was taken to our room on the 2nd floor of the South tower (think it was the south), but we was given 1 double room...and payed for a twin...told this to the staff and was told we would be moved first thing in the morning..which we was, room number 2041 on the North Tower. Nice big room, good shower, balcony..excelent

The hotel was beautiful, lovely beach, nice pool areas, staff are SO FRIENDLY, and the food was good too.
Only time we didnt like the food was when we had the Mexican night food in the main hall. But other than that, was always great with a nice choice. Breakfast was always my favourite, specially the omlettes.

All in all the Barcelo is lovely, great hotel, clean, friendly...really didnt want to come home.
Would really recommend visiting Cancun, so much to do! best holiday i've had!!

If you go to Cancun, makesure you get the bus to the Americana Plaza! Was great, we only heard about it the day before we went home, but was a great mall. The Kukuclan opposite the hotel is Okay, but not much choice, as with La Isla, but the Americana plaza was great, wonderful affordable shops!

Also you must take the Jungle Boat tour! such a fun day out!!

And if your worried about the weather..it was great!
we was a little worried as all the weather websites give constant forcasts for cancun as 'isolated thunderstorms' or 'rain'..but this was not true! not a cloudy, rainy or cold day for the whole 2 weeks..always boiling hot and beautiful!

  • Liked — the lovely staff..great location....just everything
  • Disliked — probably all of the steps! legs got tired!

booked through a travel agent who booked us through apple vacations, was not the first time we used apple, and will not be the last. the front desk people at this hotel were terrible, and the apple rep was never there. staff in all other areas of hotel were perfect. on last day of stay fell on my way down a little ramp to checkout and was asked if i was ok, only to find out my sister fell 15 minutes prior in the same spot and was asked a little too much to drink last night which was totally inappriote of them, and no the floor was wet and there was no sign. so we checked out went to breakfast at hotel and then went to the airport over one hour later with not one single person asking how we were. when we went home i had to go to the er the next morning because i hurt my wrist when i fell,,, well no one wrote an accident report nor did they ask if we wanted one written,,,we were only looking for an appolgy and didnt even get that, all we got was they were not to blame and we didnt purchase the travelers insurance.well we purchase it ever trip now....

I went to Mexico with a fellow friend and we found the country lovely, fantastic trips to do etc. However this hotel lacked activities for people to do, as we perceived the activities being of some nature of watersports etc but basicaly was just throwing a ball around in a pool (what fun). The night entertainment is nothing to write about as it is on 1 hour a night and is basicaly clowns trying to entertain. Some of the staff at the hotel I would never give them the time of day as they were utterly rude and had no manners at all towards paying customers. Over all the holiday was fantastic but was debated by the staff themselves. So stay in another hotel!

Well where do I begin? Arrived at hotel after long journey fromUK and stood waiting at reception whilst they checked over 40 of us in, only 3 staff on reception so took ages to process. Was given key to room but not shown where it was, had to look for it then finally found it on bottom floor, I asked when I booked for a Sea View, Lower Floor with a balcony but all I got was a Bottom Floor with no view or balcony.

Room was ok but had already put a damper on things when we had a view of the Timeshare villas. Purchased a Safe key thinking we would get our deposit back at end of holiday but wasnt the case.

After 1st night I asked to be moved due to the noise from the lounge bar which was just round the corner from our room (1009) but was told no rooms available try again tomorrow, the bar was meant to shut at 2am but was still serving gone 4am.

The food was probably the worst we have ever had, if your from UK then I wouldnt recommend this Hotel for food. Poor selection for B/fast, Lunch & Dinner but if you went to the Pool Restuarant you got the only decent meal of the day and with chips. The Hotel caters mainly for South American clients & not UK, after 3rd night of same food & cold we ate out for rest of holiday.

2nd night had same problem as 1st with noise from the bar so asked again at Reception to be moved only to be told no rooms available still so asked to see the Duty Manager who was no help & said the same thing.

The Entertainment was shocking really, 9pm - 10pm then that was it, there was so called Entertainment at 1 of the pools each day but was the same thing every day so not well attended. A couple with 3 kids complained to the Tour Rep about lack of Entertainment only to be told no one else has complained & your expected to go to bed at 10pm with your kids. That really upset alot of the UK residents.

We felt sorry for families with teenagers / kids as there was nothing for them to do, we ended up entertaining ourselves in the end as no one seemed interested in European guests.

Just returned from a fabulous honeymoon at the Tucancun. My husband and I stayed there from Aug. 7-13th and we cannot say enough about this wonderful resort. We cannot wait to go back next year. It was very hot during this month, but worth it. The entire staff was very friendly (all speak English-which helps) and the hotel itself was very beautiful. All areas were kept very clean, including the 3 large pools and our hotel room. I don't know why there were a few negatives about this place. I did not see any bugs or dirt and thought that the food was very good with a great selection. It is no "5 star" resort, so people should not expect to have baked stuffed lobster and filets every day. For the price you pay- the food was good and reasonable. There was a large variety every night at the buffets as well as at the a la carte restaurants (there are 2) to choose from so those that made bad food remarks must have been pretty picky eaters if you ask me. You could always find chicken, beef, pork, or seafood daily. An important note--If you are looking for night life- this is not the resort for you. It is pretty quiet at night and the pools all close at 10:00 PM. There is only 1 bar open until 2AM- which is the indoor lobby bar. All the others close pretty early (main pools 7PM and a the smaller pool at 10:00), but downtown is only a 7 minute bus trip (don't take the taxi-way too much money!) down the road and there is a lot to do until 4AM if you want to really party. And boy is it loud, crude, lude and crazy downtown- especially at Senor Frogs- which is recommended for all of the young people ages 18-early 30's (18 is the drinking age). The best part about the downtown bars is the open bar rule all night for one low price of $15-$25 US dollars that most offer. What a deal!! I would also recommend the "party hopper tour" if you really want to have a good time while other people get you drinks with VIP service all the way for 7 whole hours of fun. What I don't recommend is going to any of the Mayan Ruins tours in the hot months and if you do- don't go during the afternoon and bring A LOT of water (more than you think). My husband and I became dehydrated and ill one day from one of the tours so beware of the heat- it creeps up on you fast. Drink water!!!!
In summary, the resort caterers to mainly families and low key couples. It was a relaxing and enjoyable vacation that was much needed. Many people come from the USA or the UK. The beach is very small since the hurricanes have hit the area a few years back- so the photos listed are not updated. The width from the resort wall to the beach is only about 2 beach chairs- so don't expect a big beach. Some resorts have a better beach, but most of their beaches have also shrunk down due to the storms. Don't forget--Not much goes on at night except for some entertaintment by a talented group of people doing shows nightly at 9PM in the theatre and there is only 1 lobby bar that stays open late. So don't go here if you want more of a party atmosphere.
Feel free to email me for more questions regarding my stay. I hope that this review helps you.
