Just came back from a week at Barcelo Tucancun with my 21 year old son and 15 year old daughter. We had a few misgivings, after reading all these reviews, but found out we had nothing to worry about! We had a standard room, not luxurious but ample space, even with the rollaway bed they provided at once. The reservation restaurants were, without exception, wonderful experiences for us. The buffet was--well, it's a buffet. It was good, but it did get tedious after awhile, and I can't imagine dining there for a whole week.

The staff was inevitably friendly, if very busy during that holiday week. The bartenders were courteous and willing to make what you wanted, as strong as you wanted--and even stronger sometimes! :-)

We enjoyed the beach--it isn't ample, and those used to great expanses of sand could be disappointed, but there's room enough for all the people who wanted to lounge there, and the water was beyond compare, even when red-flagged.

The location of the Tucancun was excellent--a short bus ride away from anything we wanted, and near enough to the airport that it was an easy trip.

If I had any complaints at all, it might be that the pools were cold--clean, but how nice it would have been to have one a little warmer! A hot tub would be a great addition. Also, a little more variety in the buffet--but that's nothing I didn't expect.

All in all, we had a terrific stay, and if I could, I'd be back on the plane tomorrow!

Had a relaxing time. Stayed at the resort 10 years ago in hotel units. This year was in the timeshare portion of the resort. The two bedrooms were clean, quiet, and well maintained. The second bedroom had 2 small twin beds that are fine for individuals, but not 2 people. Ocean front view of beach… Very beautiful to wake to and have a coffee on the porch. Mix drinks were of decent quality. They will pour them to the potency as directed. I bring a large mug along on all inclusive trips… saves trips to the bar.

We just returned from a mid-December stay at the Barcelo Tucancun, we had previously stayed there two years ago over Thanksgiving. Once again, the stay at the Barcelo was everything we could have asked for. I went there with my girlfriend and my two young adult sons. We had one small glitch regarding our room assignments, but that was quickly resolved in our favor. I, too read the occasional unhappy comments and wondered if that could happen to us, but once again everything was just wonderful. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel amenities were just great. Food was good and plentiful. We had several day trips such as Xel-Ha and an all-day Catamaran trip to Isla Mujeres (with many activities en route to the Island) so we didn't spend too many of the daylight hours at the pool or on the beach(in the surf) but when we were there it was also very enjoyable. We were just ordinary middle-class people looking for a short getaway at a reasonable cost - not looking for a 5-star hotel, but as far as we were concerned, this was everything we could have asked for. We booked through a travel agent, which also gave us a contact at the hotel through NWA World Vacations to set-up our day trips and all transportation. The transit situation is great. Just hop on the bus for a buck or less and it will get you to where you want to go in the hotel area. Our average wait for a bus was probably about a minute. The mall across the street is nice and has a lot of variety of stores. Whether you just want to sit back and do nothing or use the hotel as a base for day trips and to rest your head at night, I think it would be hard not to have a great time.

I spent a week at this hotel with my three daughters, and from the second we stepped on the property, we were treated very well. The service was great, and we were very happy with the service.
The girls had an excellent time at the dinner theatre each evening, and the variety of shows had them wanting to return each for the next one.
The room was always very clean, the bar fridge in our room was always fully stocked, and we never ran out of beverages, snacks, or bottled water.
The food was great, and even though we only ate at the snack bars and the buffet restaurants, there was always something new to try.
The day we were leaving, we had to check out at noon, but were invited to stay and enjoy the grounds, pools, restaurants, and bars until 4 p.m. when we were being picked up by our driver to head back to the airport. Our luggage was safely stored while we made the most of our last afternoon at this great resort. I have no complaints, and say that it is what it is - a 4 star resort. And that is what we expected, and what we received.
I would recommend this resort and plan on going back at the same time next Fall.
