Myself and three girlfriends just returned from Cancun. After reading the reviews posted, we were rather apprehensive about our stay. When we arrived, we found the staff to be most helpful. There was no wait checking in, however, our room we could not check into our room until 3PM. One in our group was sick and we were allowed in the room early.

The hotel is very nice, but not a luxury hotel and is in a good location. We booked a lagoon view room, but were upgraded at no charge to an ocean-view room. It had a spacious wrap-around balcony. The mini bar was stocked daily and any requests for additional items were promptly received. The pool and grounds are well-kept and all staff was very friendly and helpful. They work very hard.

As with my previous all-inclusive stays, the food on the buffets could be better but remembering I'm in a foriegn country. We had reservations in the Mexican and Seafood reataurants and both were excellent!!!

The beach area is narrow, but I was not suprised after being in Cancun last year. Many in the hotel zone lost a lot of their beaches due to a hurricane. They do need to update their hotel photos to depict the smaller beach area.

All-in-all, my friends and I were very pleased and will most likely return to the hotel when we visit Cancun again. DON'T BE SCARED BY READING OTHER REVIEWS.

We had a good time, but there were some things that were a problem. The drinks are cheap, no bottle beer, just corona taps, but we still had our fill. The showers have zero temp. control. You will freeze and then get scalded in about 45 seconds, no amount of adjusting will help, the worst I have ever used. If you are looking for top notch food the food is not that great, one or two things were really good but mostly just blah. There was alot of food and choices, and the daytime snacks were good. One member of our group got food poisoning somewhere, we don't know where. The pools are great, the sun is good but it gets shady early because the hotel blocks the late sun, and then it is too cold for the pools. The beach has large waves and it is always windy. The people are mostly 18-35 yrs. old and fairly well behaved. A great place for spring breakers, younger people and groups of friends. We really enjoyed the PARTY HOPPER BUS from the hotel. It is the cheapest and best way to spend a night in CANCUN all drinks and cover charges are handled and they get you in past the lines, they also double as your bartender so getting drinks is easy. It is a party city and if you want that this place is not bad, but compared to sandals in Jamaica it just doesn't compare. There are probably better places to pick from. Check around . Tips are expected and that is annoying after coming from a sandals resort were is in not allowed. It is easier to communicate in Jamaica because they all speak English. Spend a little more someplace else it would be worth it. Send your kids on their first spring break here they will love it no matter what.

Well where do I begin... My family and I stayed 5 nights at the Barcelo! And wow! for the money... it was great! We went expecting the worst and had a really good time!

The rooms were clean and always had a fully stocked mini bar. Of course I did give our maid a few dollars here and there. There were a few things in the rooms that could be improved, such as the air conditioner. Ours was either on or off, couldn't set a temp, so at nights we'd get really hot or really cold.. But that I can deal with! Also the shower water temp was very inconsistant and had little pressure, but that was the least of my worries. The beds could use some improvement, but i've never slept on a comfortable hotel bed. We were upgraded from a standard room to a ocean view room at no charge, which was great to have a view of the ocean!!

The staff was all VERY friendly and always willing to help out! They were up cleaning the pools and pool area every morning at 730 AM. But make sure to get down there early if you want a chair by the pool. One nice thing is they have activities going on all the time so if you want to participate you won't get bored!! There wasn't much beach due to the hurricane taking it out a few years ago, but it was so fun to walk along the beach and just let the water splash. It was "red" flagged everyday because it was very windy there.

The food was always the same.... and it had very little flavor, but I never went hungry, always was able to find something to eat. The mexican resturant was pretty good there. They atleast had a steak if you wanted! Overall, I wouldn't book this hotel for the food, but it was OK.

The only beer they have on tap is Corona, which was fine with me, but after 5 days I was getting sick of it. Their drinks have the cheapest alcohol money can buy in them, although if you has for bacardi coke they do have bacardi! Pop in Mexico is really flat, so mixed drinks didn't taste very good to me.

Overall, I would book this resort again. For the money paid it was well worth it to not have to pay for my drinks and food. Maybe they could have better food selection, but there also is a mall RIGHT next to the hotel that you can go to eat. The nice part for me was there was always food, and a bar open!!

The room was one of the worst I have every stayed in, the bed was like a rock, when they come into clean they did not clean the sink and they would take the glasses & coffee cups and wash them in the sink and then just put them back. The sliding door would not lock. Now for the food, we could not even eat at this place, I ended up taking my customers out to eat all the meals, we went down on morning to have breakfast and I ask for eggs over easy, when the cook cracked the egg on the grill it was nothing but blood. As for the liquor, well let me put it this way, I went over to the mall and bought our refreshments and brought them to the resort and mixed our own, I did not think a resort would serve the cheepest liquor they could find. It took three days to get a lock for safe in the room. I think you should get the picture by now. Do not pick this place for a personal or business trip.

Stay - February 14th - 18th

Staff - that staff was excellent. upon arrival we were upgraded for no extra charge to the top floor of the central tower (balcony overlooking the ocean). room was cleaned and the mini bar was restocked everyday (left $2 a day). the staff at the bars and the restaurants were wonderful. they went out of the way to accommodate, as long as you were polite and respectful.

Food - We thought the food was very good. We like buffet style and thought that the buffet had a great variety. The restaurants were also very good. You do need to make reservations, but that was not a problem. We did it everyday between 9 - 10. Our favorite was the mexican (great service and great food). ask if they can take a picture and they will bring over the sombreros and take the picture. The spanish one was also good. Besides the restaurants there was also a snack buffet located near the pools down below. They would make hamburger and hot dogs, but the best thing there was the nachos.

Pools - the pools were very clean. every morning I saw the staff cleaning the pools and washing down the decks with a power washer. Around the pool there are many lounge chairs, but if you want a really nice location or are traveling with a few friends make sure you go down before 7:30 and claim a chair. Put your towel or a book on the chair and you will be all set. The staff around the pool would come around the pool and take orders, no tipping necessary but it seemed to help out.

Beach - much of the beach has eroded do to the hurricanes that hit a few years back. But the water was excellent. We loved the waves. You can rent a boogie board up near the pool for few dollars.

Overall - we thought it was great place for the value and location. most of the other guests (90%) were very nice and polite. but there were a few that were extremely rude (10%), and they acted like they owned the whole place (cutting lines, yelling and screaming, etc.). and that has nothing to do with the staff and the hotel. by the way, check out the mall across the street. we did this near the end of our stay, but I would recommend doing it earlier. they had a lot of great little shops, and a great place for cigars.
