lets start with the rooms... our maids came to our room last cuz we were on the top floor.. so we had to call them to ask for towels early in the morning and they would only ever bring three even though there was four of us so we had to share. The showers went from exteme hot to extreme cold without even touching the nossels.. The toilets over flowed all the time, then they got mad cuz we were just suppose to know we werent allowed to flush the toilet paper. My roomate and i who shared the same bed were covered in bed bug bites. I had a total of 20 on my legs. The beds were very hard and had stains. The veiw was AMAZING though, but our friends we were with got a room on the other side of the hotel facing a huge building.... What else hmm.. The bartenders were really nice, the food SUCKKEDD, really bad!! Also there was an incident with one of the staff members following one of our girls, they handled it pretty professionally and escorted him off the property but still!! Security was annoying, they wouldnt let you walk along the beach at night or dip your feet in the pool... I think our stay would have been muchhh better if we stayed somewehre else..

Our party of 5 (3 adults, 2 teens) were warmly welcomed at check-in and given adequate explanation regarding towel cards which has seemed to be a problem with many guests at check out. Our room was in the older part of the building but we were able to upgraded to the south tower the next afternoon. Sara, at the front desk, was extremely kind and courteous during this process. Our rooms were kept very clean, all the bar and wait staff were helpful and friendly. There is very little beach left in Cancun, not only at this hotel, but in Cancun in general. It was windy most of the time but we were able to be in the ocean which was warm and lovely. The teens enjoyed the games at the pool. We rode the bus to take the "cat" to Isla Mujeres at .70 US. Kulkucan and Isla Malls were nice shopping malls. The food was always plentiful with breakfast being the best meal. I agree with other reviewers that after a few days the menu did not seem to change much for lunch and dinner and was rather bland. We are not "gourmets" so could work with this. The drinks and beer were OK but we do not drink a great deal so my opinion in this area is pretty limited. All in all, I felt this hotel was a good value. I believe that if you treat people with respect and are friendly ( a smile and patience goes a long way) you will receive excellent service at this hotel.

I just got back from the Barceló Tucancun we had a group of 23 people for our son's senior trip. What a mess. We reserved 7 Ocean front rooms all on one floor. Confirmed this 1 week prior to traveling. When we arrived we were scattered on different floors, one family was booked on 2 different floors. We were told that it would be $39 a night to upgrade; even the sign said $15.00 posted next to the front desk. We asked for manager and told that Edgar would talk to us at 3:00 by 6:00 Edgar still was not available we were too hot and tired to argue any more. We paid $25 a night to be upgraded to ocean front and all on one floor. The hotel was not even full. Half the restaurants were closed. Food could have been better. Our party ate at the buffet on Saturday night and everyone got sick, so it was a long flight home. One person ended up in the ER on Monday morning. They never mopped or cleaned our floors all week, the elevator floors were never cleaned same stains on the floor all week. Bar service was slow. Could not find bar with top shelf liquor. Spent all our time by the pools, activity pool staff was fun they really kept the kids going. There is no beach anymore. We have been to Cancun 4 times before this is the worse place we have stayed. I would not stay here again, spend a little more money and stay at the Palace Resorts it is worth it. If we did not have a big group, it would not have been as much fun, as we made our own fun and pretty much ignored the hotel. Skip the Party Hopper pay $40 at the door at Senior Frogs and stay there all night. TOO much fun there......

after two weeks at this hotel i can safely say myself and my partner will definately not be returning to this hotel, room service/maids are repeatedly thieving items from rooms, numerous people whom were staying there were reporting things missing from their room ours unfortunately was our money and two broken suitcases, alerted the staff at the hotel whos responce was to take pictures of our belongings in our room and theyd get back to us within 24 hours which they didnt. there were cctv footage on all corridors when we asked the management if theyd bin looked at his reply was 'i didnt even know about this' hed speak to security and let us know.....which he didnt! apart from the thieving staff the majority were pleasent enough. evening entertainment was amazingly rubbish, buffet restaurent closed on some nights without warning and were made to sit and watch these 'acts' while having horrific food! by which time it was too late to book into the a la carte restaurants as bookings have to be made before 14:00. only one bar to drink in at night which wasnt very big and lacked atmosphere. throughout our stay there was no beach and we couldnt go in the sea. overall not very impressed with this hotel would not recommend it to anyone its far to overpriced for the service that you recieve.

I recently returned from a trip to Cancun with 2 friends for a sunny getaway. We decided to stay at the Barcelo Tucancun (All Inclusive) after a lot of research, primarily using TripAdvisor reviews to help choose the right hotel for us. So it only felt right to contribute ourselves. We were extremely happy with our choice and had a fabulous time, mostly because the hotel was exactly what we were looking for.
Pools - 3 pools, each with its own bar. One pool has swim up bar and activities all day every day. Plenty of sun lounges but the earlier you're out the more choice you have. You have a towel card for however many towels you want each day and if you lose the card or a towel you have to pay USD25 - not a problem as long as you know this beforehand.
Eating - 4 restaurants to choose from for dinner - Three ala carte places that require reservations. One buffet dinner with a different theme each night that does not require reservation. Buffet breakfast always yummy with great variety, fresh and a perfect way to start the day. And they serve brekky from 7am to 1200 - later than anywhere else I've ever stayed! Two lunch buffets to choose from. Overall good food, great selection. The Mexican Restaurant for dinner was my favourite. Service almost always impeccable at each one.
Hotel was kept very clean
Staff always friendly and polite
Bars - In addition to Pool bars, was also a Lobby Bar open until 5am every night so you never go thirsty. A tip here and there to your barman will ensure great service,
Rooms - clean. Beds comfy. Mini Bar kept stocked and included in All Inclusive Deal. Housekeeping look after you a bit more if you leave a tip - $1 or $2 here and there. Aircon a little cold for us. Hot showers. In room safe that you have to pay for - about USD2.20 per day - but make sure you are aware of the fine print that says if you lose the key to the safe you have to pay USD100.
Entertainment - A cabaret style lounge that offers different nightly entertainment but we did not attend any of these.
Beach: Beautiful, clean, crystal clear waters. Lifeguard on duty during the day - flags indicating level of danger for swimming.
Wireless internet available - pretty pricey but not too bad (USD5 per hour) much cheaper in town. Phone calls expensive so don't bother if you don't have to.

Tips:
** Learn a little Spanish language before arriving, its the polite thing to do. Just the basics.
** Tip small amounts often - this will get you far!
** Beware of people wanting to talk to you about time share. We knew to avoid it but many don't know and it wastes your time. The reps for these are in the hotel and normally start the conversation with offering something free... Nothing is free!!
** The Party Hopper Tour booked through the hotel was loads of fun, including cover and all drinks for three different bars. Vibe was awesome - we had so much fun.
** Do your own research if you want do a tour as there are many options and agency people to book through. We booked one with Traffic and one with Barcelo and both were what we expected.
** Go to Chichen Itza, the newest wonder of the world. But note you can no longer climb it - you may not be told this.
** Swimming with the dolphins was a highlight, but they try to rip you off afterwards offering photo and DVD packages that cost hundreds of USD... just beware...
** Taxis are ok but a little costly for tourists. Buses come every 2 mins and cost USD0.65 per trip..
