This trip was planned on 18 year old students' budgets, so I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The lobby is pretty with tile floors and marble counters. All floors are tile...no carpet in rooms or anywhere. Which is good so they can clean it well. The tropical plants are attractive to the eye. Since I was expecting less than what I am used to I was very happy with the accomodations. It was clean and well decorated. The beds are hard and pillows poor, but as a whole the hotel was clean and I'd go back...if I am with teenagers wanting to party. Read on.....

It was fine for what we went to Cancun for. We went with 21 recent high school graduates on their senior trip. We weren't "chaperones" but did do a little taking care of problems. With that said we were prepared to be in a hotel full of teenagers. It is not a hotel for a family with small children due to the amount of 18 -20 year olds running around in bikinis with a beer in their hand. Most were there to drink, so if you are going for a peaceful vacation with your kids or if you are a senior citizen...don't go to this hotel. Be prepared for slamming doors and knocking on doors at all hours of the night as well as phone calls for the prior teen ager that had your room (most of the phone calls were between 2:00am-4:00am)..The only quiet time is while the kids are gone to the bars from 8:00pm - 1:30am and in the morning when they are sleeping it off. Like I said this was not a problem for us due to the reason we were there, to make sure our kids came home safely. We didn't complain about the noise, but did feel sorry for anyone who checked in for a quiet vacation. The atmosphere was really rather fun for those of us nearing the 50 mark.

The food was good. My friends complained some toward the end, but the grilled fish and the guacamole were superior. The pineapple was wonderful, too. I could have lived on fish and guacamole. The grilled chicken was great as were any Mexican treats like taquitos or burritos. There are three indoor restaurants and a pool side reataurant. I never tried the pool restaurant, but tried all three of the others. Our adult group favorite was the Mexican restaurant which requires a reservation. Make a reservation the day you arrive. The food was outstanding...not tex-mex it was grilled fish and even a delicious steak. The grilled grouper was fantastic. I tried a bite of the steak and expected it to be bad, but it was great. The chips and guacamole were great once again. We also had numerous margaritas. Since it was all inclusive we left a nice large tip for the waiter. Our service was outstanding. The italian restaurant was good, too. I have had better Italian food, but considering we were in Mexico, the pasta was delicious. I prefered the lasagna and spagetti with pesto. Breakfast in the Italian restaurant was delicious, too. It opened earlier than the other larger restaruant, so our last morning at 7:00am we were at the door waiting for it to open. Great gingerbread muffins. Our bus to the airport left at 7:25am, so we didn't have much time. The omlets were great as were all the delcious muffins and breads.

The alcohol was not watered down. Since it flows freely we had more than enough. The kids stayed at the volleyball pool most of the time and it had a swim up bar. They had no problem getting enough to drink. We did think the pool where the kids hung out was rather cloudy. I sure wouldn't have gotten in it. The teenagers weren't bothered by it, though. There was so much beer spilled in it and hopefully that is all. There is a nearby bathroom, but some were probably too lazy to go to it.

There are three pools. The one with split levels was clean and sparkley. Less people used it, so it was the clearest. The largest pool was clean, but had many people in it, so it didn't sparkle as much. It had lounge chairs built into it and lots of places to sit around it. We hung out at this pool or at the beach. We adults liked the strawberry margaritas, beer and iced tea. The ice and water in the restaruants were ok to consume, so we loved the iced tea. There was a bar at all three pools. You had to walk from the beach to get a drink.

I would highly recommend this hotel to young people wanting to party and meet other young people. Adults not bothered by noisy teenagers would enjoy it, too. I know I had a blast and would go back. Might take earplugs so I could sleep while the kids party and run up and down the halls, though.

This hotel was relatively inexpensive, and it shows. First, do not waste your money on the all-inclusive deal. The food was HORRIBLE. We ended up eating out 3 of the 5 nights. The restaurants had specific meal times, which are not convenient if you plan on leaving for excursions. The drinks were all good, but if you plan on spending your day's out on excursions and your evenings out at the clubs, you won't get your money's worh out of the all-inclusive. The first night we stayed, we couldn't sleep because of all the noise in the halls, including one of the emergency exit doors that slammed constantly. We requested a new room the next morning, and had to pay for an upgrade because all the "regular" rooms were booked. The hotel is very clean and the entertainment staff are a lot of fun. Overall, I don't think I'd stay here again.

I just got back a few weeks ago, and I would definitely recommend this hotel. The three restaurants have very good food with a lot of variety. The drinks are plentiful and good, especially the Tamarind Margarita! The staff throughout the hotel is very cordial and helpful. The nightly shows are fabulous and together with the three beautiful pools (especially the one with the chaise lounges in the water!), the restaurants, bars and snack bar, the gorgeous beach and many sun decks, and the great mall just across the street, you get great bang for your buck. The city buses run almost constantly, are very reasonable and stop just across the street from the hotel. It's a great location, a very full service resort and a bargain to boot. Can't go wrong!

First let me preface this review by stating that the resort itself, the rooms, the staff, the pools, the bars (inside and out) and the grounds were wonderfully maintained and always being cleaned and prepped for the next day's use by hardworking and wonderfully patient staff.

this was the good!

the bad was having such a repetition on the buffet menus. You can ONLY eat once in the reservation only mexican restaurant...all the others serve the same fare each day. be prepared for this...and perhaps do as we did...go directly across the street to their mall and purchased some snack food items to hold you over should you be like us and want something different.
breakfast was the best meal...eggs fixed anyway...pancakes, french toast. wonderful breads, fruits, cereals, pastries

please note that only coke products offered at resort/only mexican beer served at resort/i don't believe that aside from rum and tequilla drinks..you'll find anything else..don't think you'll see boubon, scotch etc.
here comes the ugly...
the resort was overrun with "senior week" kids. they were far from being in control of themselves and this made all of us most uncomfortable. i am uncertain...but does senior week last all summer?

they were up in the halls of the resort all hours of the night from being "overserved" and "under supervised". sleeping was not easy as we continued to be awakened as the next stream of young people arrived thur the resort halls.

yes, vacations are for all...and all means the young as well...but when they cause all to be alarmed and leiry of their presence...something should be done...i did a survey before i left of over 50 persons...they all agree...the senior week vacationers will keep them from returning to the tucancun resport

go have your vacation and perhaps share with others your good, bad and ugly experiences

This was my fourth trip to Cancun. We usually stayed at another hotel. After they upgraded to a 5-star hotel, they were not interested in high school senior trips. By the way, after they upgraded, the food was terrible. The students spent most of their money eating at Chili's or McDonalds. This trip was my first at the TucanCun. We arrived June 6, with many anxious seniors in our group.
Being from south Louisiana, and accustomed to seasoned food, we brought our own Tony's seasoning. However, everyone thought the food was good(as compared to last years'). There was always a variety, and they actually seasoned their food. The service staff was always friendly and quick to serve you. When we met up as a group, they didn't hesitate to rearrange tables to accomodate us. We always left the staff a tip.
There were a couple of nights when the hallways were a little noisy, but we were usually just coming in so it didn't bother us. Our maid service was great. If we hung our towels, that was ok. If we left them on the floor, they left us fresh towels. Our room was cleaned daily by a very friendly staff. I always left a tip. Our room was always cool.
It wasn't until I returned home and talked with others in our group, that I found out the hotel had excellent floor shows everynight. I can't believe that I missed out on that.
Everyone in our group was well satisfied with the hotel and staff. The only complaints were: 1)it was too big and spread out, they had too many places to look for everyone, 2)our view was looking at the back of a Mall, and 3)no hair dryers in the room.
Next year, we will return to Cancun (for my fifth trip) and given the choice of the TucanCun or the 5-star hotel, we have decided we will return to the TucanCun. The deciding factor was the food. When you pay for all-inclusive, you don't want to have to go to La Isla Mall and pay to eat at Chili's everyday like they did last year.
I (we) wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. BEWARE! If you don't want to have fun and party, don't go when the seniors are out of school. Go before they graduate, or wait until later in the season. Cancun is a party city this time of the year.
