Our original vacation plans were ruined, so at the last minute we booked a two room suite here. It's hard to find accommodations for a family of five, but this set up was great. The room was clean and well furnished. The plumbing was fragile, with occasionally clogging toilets and a distinct lack of hot water on some days. The hotel's facilities are on the older side and at one time it probably represented first-class accommodations. At this point, everything is slightly shabby when compared to the fancy new hotels nearby. The trade-off, however, is having a lovely garden outside your room instead of a hotel corridor and an attentive staff.
The pool was beautiful but much too cold for any of the guests to swim in for any length of time. The beach was small but fine.
The only thing worth eating for dinner is the fajitas. There are few other restaurants around, but it's easy to take the public bus into the downtown area. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Spent a week in Feb.2005 in a waterfront room. The accomodations were adequate - not fancy. We were impressed with the wait staff; always freindly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and always fresh. We would go back if they would guarantee a new mattress.

Our original hotel had overbooked so we were transferred to Villas Tacul. It was wonderful. Mostly adults on property, room was on the small side yet very clean, lots of towels, 95% of waitstaff was very courteous and friendly, food was all good - great salsa and guacamole (try their Ixtapa salsa in very small doses), beach pristine and uncrowded. The A/C was a little noisy however we slept with sliders wide open - no problems or worries. Pool was cleaned every morning, beautiful birds all around and yes, a ton of iguanas sunning themselves in the gardens. Front desk check in was easy however, back room office staff was nowhere near as polite. Try to cut a deal with the on-site tour promoters, their price doesn't have to be what they initially offer you. We didn't get their posted exchange rate for USD either. They gave less and I didn't realize it until later. All in all, we had a fabulous time and would definitely return.

Stayed 7 nights at the Villas Tacul in January. Great family hotel. We reserved a two bedroom villa. The villa was great. The main part of the villa was a large living area, small kitchen and king size bed. Then there were two more bedrooms consisting of two double beds and their own bathroom in each. 3 baths in all. Excellent housekeeping. Excellent food. Fernando the server at night is the best! Really friendly staff throughout. Close to downtown (80 pesos). Small but pretty beach, large but cold pool. Beautiful gardens and an overall quiet place to stay. Room service, laundry, all the extras without all the extra money. We will be back!

My husband, daughter (15 months) and I stayed here Oct 22-28th, after a friend highly recommended it. It was our first trip to Cancun. Overall Villas Tacul was a lovely place, very spread out with stucco villas, lots of gardens, fountains, etc. We had a studio room with a kitchen right on the beach, and the view was beautiful. Unfortunalty, they had a problem with the pool, and had to drain it completely, our entire stay there. They evidently decided to work on the fountains at the same time, so there was no water in any of them after our first day there. It was the "off season" and I guess they figure that is the best time to work on these kind of things.

Our biggest problem that will keep us from returning is the beds - our bed was so uncomfortable, the worst I have ever slept on. There was a very thin mattress, just on the board (no boxspring). We could feel all of the springs in this very old mattress, and had to shift around to get our hip bones and shoulders in between springs to get comfortable enough to sleep.

The toilet was constantly backing up, and we had to unstop it once or twice a day.

But, for anyone travelling with a baby, having a room with chairs and a view right outside the door gave us the freedom to be outside on the beach during her naps and bedtime, while still being right near our door.

Not a bad place at all, but needs better upkeep, plumbing, and beds.
