We stayed AI for 2 weeks in Jan. 2005. According to the descriptions of the hotel it should be one of the most exclusive resorts in Cancun, but service and particularly the food don't correspond to this claim.
The rooms are clean and well equipped, the garden is beautiful, pool and beach are well tended. But half of the sunshades are defective because they are cavernous. Some of the sunloungers were broken and have not been repaired or exchanged. The staff partly tries to "earn" money where possible, e.g. altough we had AI a waitress demanded 3 US$ for a bottle of water at our first day.
The biggest blemish is the food: every day chicken, the same sort of fish, pasta, the same vegetable and fruit-mix. For breakfast they offerd every morning baked potatoes, scrambled eggs, bean mush and saucages. From time to time bread from the day before was warmed up. You have to pay attention that the drinks (also Coke and table water) consist half of crushed ice. All in all I can't recommend this hotel.

This hotel was so great!! all the staff was so nice and waited on us hand and foot. We stayed for 7 days. It was the most old fashioned place around. True Mexican delight!!!! HOLA Ewdin, Fernando and Carmen!!

My husband and I stayed at Villas Tacul in April of '04 and booked a two bedroom suite, which was a little pricey, but what the heck. It was a little casita style accommodation with separate sleeping area and a very Mexican style dining room and kitchen. Very quiet, very private. The beach was nice, but they definitely need more lounge chairs. We thought the landscaping was beautiful with each casita clustered in a horseshoe shape around the grounds, which included gardens, small man-made streams and the tennis court, which we used every day. We ended up eating every night at the restaurant onsite, and the food was fantastic and the service amazing. If we didn't finish an entree, they would wrap up leftovers and include more than we had actually left on the plate! Booked a massage at the beach, which was excellent -- as good as we've had anywhere else. Check-in was flawless and the staff was very friendly. I'd stay here again!

I greatly enjoyed Villas Tacul for a two-night stay in Cancun. The city itself was a bit too toursty and by the second morning I was ready to move on to Merida. But Villas was way cool. We over-bought by taking a 2-bedroom villa for our group (two mothers and two daughters, $507 for two nights through The Travel Center). We could have saved $165 by getting a 1-bedroom which would have had plenty of space (the downstairs area also has both a king-size bed AND a pull-out sofa.) Full kitchen, charming Mexican decor, comfortable beds, great bathrooms (3). Iguanas do roam the grounds, which the kids loved. Beach was fine - a little small but all the beaches are connected and there's a Rui right next-door. Nice meandering swimming pool too, kids enjoyed it. Snorkling was a blast, definitely a highlight of the trip for our two 11-year-olds. It's worth an overnight stay in Cancun just to experience the clear turqoise water. Even in 25-feet you can see clear to the bottom. Nautical Tours, who took us out on the trip, is a first-class bunch. They made sure the kids were safe and dove underwater to show them live starfish up-close. Tacul's breakfast buffet excellent, staff very nice. All in all I would much rather stay here than a 400-room hotel. The only downside was, mosquitos do enter the villas. But, having read postings on TA, I came prepared. We doused ourselves in OFF and we were fine. I would stay here again, yes. Another tip I learned from TA: Don't buy water in the hotel. Just a block south of the Villas Tacul I found an OXXO convenience store that sold bottles of water for $7.5 pesos (about (70 cents.) Most OXXO's, including this one, also have ATMs, although you should only use an ATM in daylight hours and be aware of your surroundings.

Stayed there in Jan.Rooms are ok.Grounds are nice.Beach not nearly as good as in the hotel zone.
Stayed all inclusive.Meals were selected from a very limited menu.Mostly chicken and pasta.Only allowed bottom shelf liquor or beer on all inclusive.
But good luck even getting that! No service around the ice cold pool.
The inside bar only had three stools. The outside bar was only open once in 5 days.
Not convenient to anything.
Staff likes to stade around and socialize with each other, rather than be attentive to the guests.Never stay there again.
