Travelled to the Blue bay on Boxing day 2007, when we arrived the room was not ready as we were early my fault not theirs. The check was fast and efficient, the staff were polite and friendly and did all they could to meets all our requested requirements. We had a third floor room with an ocean view and it was breath taking.
The rooms are nice and bright, the bedding is lovely and they were cleaned meticulously every day, and I did like the fact that it had a microwave and fridge too .
The food was excellent and very varied and there really was something there for everyone. The freshly made juices were delicious I must say I have never drank beetroot juice before but it was fab.
We were on an all inclusive basis, and the drinks were local brands and although drinkable they weren’t that good, we needed up going to Wal-Mart buying our own and getting the bar man to keep them in his fridge for us, which sort of defies the notion of going all inclusive. However if you tip the bar man $10 per person he will give you premium drinks for all that day or you can pay $30 per person per day via the hotel, but to be honest I don’t think it is really wroth the extra cash.
The location is ideal for a get away, but it is 20 mins or so away from the main night life, so its not really a drama to go out. I have to admit though we were we first going to the hotel I was really fearing the worst travelling through the area around the port of Juarez as it looks like a shanty town. But I needn’t have worried.
This hotels evening entertainment can be a little hit and miss however that cannot be said for the shows which the hotel staff hold over the road in the theatre, they are absolutely fantastic, and if you get a chance to see the Lion King do not pass it up as it is amazing and given that most of the people who star in the show are gardeners cleaners etc employed by the hotel makes it that much better.
One of the main good points of this hotel is that most of all the main British tor operators go there, and it was not full of Americans and Canadian like most of the other Caribbean resorts I have visited.
my friend was coming over for her birthday and because it was a “special birthday” I asked the hotel to upgrade her room, they did all this at no extra cost, they helped me order a special cake and flowers and it made her birthday for her, Even the staff in the restaurant dressed the tables specially for her.
Finally the al la carte restaurant is really fantastic the setting the ambiance and the food make it a really special dining experience do not miss it
