We have been to Cancun many times and I can honestly say that the Blue Bay Club is absolutely my favorite place to go. The resort is very clean and beautiful. From the moment we arrive, we feel at home. Carlos, the door man is awesome. He goes out of his way to be accommodating and always has a smile on his face.
We have never had any compaints about our room. They have always been large, clean and comfortable. Occasionally there is a slight musty smell, but that is to be expected any place where there is high humidity. Turning on the air conditioner eleminates that problem.
There is seaweed on the beach but the workers are always raking and cleaning it up. There is only so much you can do when your fighting against mother nature. Generally the water is a beautiful aqua blue, but I have noticed that when the winds blow from the north it tends to churn up the sea and cools the temps down quite a bit. I also read that someone thought they were pumping sewage out into the water. It would be a good thing to make sure before you write such things. What they are pumping out is sand. They move the sand from one place to the other to keep the water deep enough for the boats to drive into the marina. It's actually quite interesting to see.
The sports and entertainment crew are unbelieveable! They work so hard all day making sure that everyone is happy and then they put on an absolutely awesome show three nights a week. It's incredible how many hours a week these people work and yet they are always smiling and always make us feel welcome! Luis, Dario and Joaquin are the best! If you take the time to get to know these people you would truely be impressed.
The bar tenders really know how to make a good drink! Especially Orlando and Lizardo (A.K.A. Harry Potter). Lizardo is also an artist. He makes bugs out of palm leaves that you would think are real. I know that for a fact because I ran screaming when I saw one for the first time! IF you ask him he would probably make one to show you.
It's hard to believe how many people spend hour after hour at the bar and never leave a tip. You would never do that anywhere else, so why would you do that there. These people work so hard to make your vacation special and at the least they deserve a tip to show them that their hard work is appreciated.
If I had to find something to complain about I would say that it would be nice if they offered more dancing. If DJ Charlie could play music for a few hours in the evening it would really be great! Or if not Charlie, just have music playing loud enough out on the deck to dance to. I have heard many people say that they wish they could dance without having to go into one of the crowded clubs in the hotel zone. I guess it's not really a complaint, more like a request.
The resort is a bit out of the beaten path but that only adds to it's charm. I like the fact that is is quiet and peaceful and yet it is only a short bus or taxi ride to the hectic and busy Hotel Zone.
The food has always been good. It may not be as fancy as some of the more expensive places but I think they have a good variety and it is always fresh. I have never left hungry!
For all these reasons and more that I haven't even mentioned I think this resort is one of the best!

Let me hit the issues first.

We went to the time share presentation. It was our error. I should have known better. Not sure I hold it against the resort but more the holding company. It cost us 1/2 day. Save yourself the time and trouble.

Second issue was we are with RCI and for prepaying we got two free tickets to Excaret. This is done through the lobby tour group. We chose to use them for the transportation also. That was the problem. It took 3 1/2 hours to get there. It should be 2 hours tops including several stops. I am mentioning because I brought it to Blue Bay', RCI and the tour company attention with no satisfaction even though each promised a response none ever gave one. Also the promised amount on our credit card went up about 10% because the exchange rate changed even though we were promised the figure in US dollars.

Now the good. Everything else about the week was good. In reading the posts I was not sure what to find but the staff was great as everyone seems to mention. The facility was always clean.

Some folks have mentioned the seaweed as an issue. It is true it washes in and they have 1-2 people devoted to clearing it off the beach. It didn't seem to be issue in the water itself. Believe these guys worked harder than most of the remainder of the staff.

I saw a couple of complaints about security. I am not sure where their heads were because it was impossible to walk around at night and not see someone throughout the grounds. I was impressed.

Don't be afraid to try things out.

Take a cab to the market and barter or just walk around. Do you use your credit card for other than a large purchase inside a store. I wouldn't. The one item we did buy on the credit card went fine.

Go out the front door and take a right and walk 10 minutes down the road and you come to a great little Mayan ruin site. We had the place to ourselves. On the way back we stoped at the Mexican restaurant right on the water. Grass roof and sand floor and ice cold beers for under $2 and a combination seafood plate for $6-7 that serves two. All the seafood is fresh every day.

Take a tour or two. I mentioned the issue above but other than that we had a great time in the underground river at Excaret and the Mayan ruins. The ride to the ruins is a long one but worth it.

Hop on the small bus across the street and go to the ferry. Catch the ferry over to the island you see from the resort and rent a golf cart for a couple of hours. We had a great time for about $35. We didn't really vist the shops or try the food there but they looked nice.

We had a lot of fun talking to folks staying there. Only one women complained about someone getting ill on the food. She had 6 in her party and her 2 sons in ther early 20's got sick. (They had their own room and I am sure it had nothing to do with the bar.)

And last but not least. Tip the staff if you think they did a good job. A small tip goes a long way and they really appreciate it. The bar staff pools their tips which is good and eliminate possible issues.

we had the unfortunate experiance of satying at the blue bay club, after reading all the reviews on here i was looking forward to it but as soon as we arrived at the hotel we hated it!
it is in the middle of nowhere the beach was dirty and covered in seaweed and what seemed like sewage was being pumped down the beach into the sea.
the room we were given was right on the beach whitch was fantastic if the beach had been clean.
there was nothing in the fridge i.e bottled water we were on a all inclusive holiday which was poor the room was dirty and smelled musty as if it hadnt been used in months.
the food we tried was foul i dont class myself as a fussy eater but thank god for the snack bar other wise we would have gone hungry its hard to ruin a burger!
the good points were the staff very helpful and polite.
thankfully we got moved after 2 1/2 days but i would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.
we moved to the riu caribe which was fantastic please spend the extra it will be worth it.

I have stayed at many all inlusive resorts, including others that this company owns. I have never experienced the level of poor service that we experienced at this resort. Everything was too much trouble. From turning up the volume on the television in the bar for a basketball game, getting a glass of champaign in the bar, towels at the pool, renting a jet ski on the beach, to finding a printer for our bording passes.... Everyone's answer was either no, can't help you, ask someone else, or just didn't speak English.

The beach was dirty and limited in size and the pool was too small for the volume of people, and let's not even talk about the food....

In addition, we are Premier Members of this resort and could not receive any of the benefits.... from a reservation clerk who passed up off to someone else, a sales staff who passed us to management, and management staff who chose to not respond to our requests because they were too busy selling additional premier memberships....

BE WARY....

This was a last minute decision for us. We looked out our window on Tuesday morning the 7th of April and said, lets get out of here for the long weekend.... even though we had Cuba booked for the 18th!..lol We left Wednesday evening and returned late Saturday night....a full 3 days AND it was a straight flight out of Ottawa which is a rare sweet bonus for us! Sunwing has wonderful service and hot meals. The only thing they lack is leg room.....

Onto the resort topics. As I said in the title. If you don't like seaweed....don't plan on any ocean time here. It is COVERED in seaweed. They try to clean up some of it, but we had a full foot high piled on the coastline all day!! This was the worst of the entire vacation. BUT...knowing I was heading for white sandy beaches of Cuba...I patiently didn't go into the water. I used the pool which was nice and refreshing. Right in front of the daytime entertainment. We realized it was a holiday to Mexicans there and so there were some locals relaxing with their kids. Most of them liked to splash and play, but again....it is a family resort and we knew that. It was quite windy. In the evening we didn't even go to the outdoor bar as it was too cold, but it was nice during the day. Not much to do between 6 and 10 though, There is usually a little fun game in the lobby for an hour or so and then there is a 10:30 shuttle to take you to the strip, but you have to pay for your own taxi home! (about $20)

The rooms were spacious... we got a room with 2 doubles. One hard one, but we discovered the other was softer for the following nights. Many were sent to the building across the street. Kind of a pain for them as I know there were a few people upset as they were promised an oceanview. Seems they do that quite often. Plus they had way overbooked, so they were offering an "upgrade" to Temptation resort. We put ourselves on the list for the following day figuring it was closer to some action (this resort is pretty secluded) with the celebrations going on. Considered it even an excursion, so we didn't book anything for Friday. Well Friday morning they called after we packed up again and told us that Temptation was also full. So we had another day of beach....although that afternoon they had the offer to Temptation again...we even asked them to inform us if there was any openings that came up, but were not told. We were a little peeved at that. The front counter needs to be more welcoming and pleasant.

The food was decent, pretty much something each night that was tasty enough to fill you. Wished there were more fruit varieties, but the fresh veggies were nice. The wait staff is sweet, but I found they would wait for you to initiate conversation. The entertainment was good fun! The boys know how to get the people going with their games.

Was a nice cheap last minute getaway for some much needed sunshine. A three star rating for us, but again it was away from the snow.....
