From the moment we arrived, we were completely disappointed. Attacked by mosquitos at the entry, told to head down a long, completely dark hallway, including stairs!, to our room ... the lights were all turned off to save $$, tv's didn't work, refrigerator wasn't plugged in prior to our arrival, so the two bottles of water we were given were warm. The one ala carte restaurant was closed due to low resort occupancy, the food at the buffet was not good, the bars would only give you glasses of water, soda, etc., not bottles or cans to take to your room. The only item stocked in our mini-bar was bottled water. Went to the adults-only sister resort, Temptation, on a day pass, and were not allowed to eat dinner there. Evidently we could only hang out at their pool, not eat their food. Horrible experience. The pool at Blue Bay was tiny and filled with kids all the time. Never any quiet time at the pool. Would never stay there again.

To start, the resort is nice. If you are expecting something more than nice, this isn’t it. It is on a road that there are several resorts that have gone out of business. Thanks to our media, who likes to take a virus that has the potential of killing .0000000000000001% of the earth’s population and making it a lead story which is destroying a country’s economy, instead of focusing on a president who has yet to make a good decision. They are hurting. They had 75 rooms rented. Now, that said, it worked out to our benefit. The normal al la carte restaurants were brought in to the main buffet area and we were allowed to order off the menu every night. The food was wonderful. You must get beef carpaccio and the fish in butter sauce and the Mayan coffee and the, well, you get the picture. Leo, the bell boy (concierge) is your best friend. He can answer any question you have. He made or trip. He also helped with the one thing I really wanted to do. You MUST go to Isla Mujeres. Walk outside, go across the street and wait for a van with a stripe down the side to come by. Throw up your hands and he will pull over. For my wife and myself, it cost about $.50 to go to UltraMar ferry. The ferry company just bought 2 brand new boats. They’re great. Grab a beer and go to the top. The cruise takes about 15 minutes and cost $7 round trip. It runs every ½ hour. Once you’re on the island, grab a golf cart for $40 for the day and go cruising. There are a lot of police and military. This may make you think that it is not safe. This is untrue. They have a police and military so no one ever thinks about doing something stupid. Go north and there is a bar next to a huge bronze statue. Stop in and get a bucket of Modelo Light. It is the closest thing to a Bud Light you can get, and it’s $4.50 for a bucket of them. Take the cart around the island, it is beautiful. There is a snorkel place next to Graffon Park and it will cost you around $8 to get in and another $8 to rent snorkeling equip. It is much cheaper than the park. Back at the resort, go down the road to the next small dock. There is a small restaurant that serves the fish the same day it was caught. I got a 5 Lb. red snapper fried up, had three cokes and he gave me two Sol glasses for $16 including a $5 tip. It was awesome (they do not speak English so just put your hands up to your cheeks and make a fish face. He’ll know what you want). Back to the resort. The staff is outstanding. Let me let you in on a little secret, well it’s not a secret, it’s common sense. TIP the people! They are struggling. They need money bad. They will treat you great if you don’t, but come on, they are hurting because of our stupidity and they appreciate it more than you know. I tipped every time I got anything. Just a dollar. The same tip you would give any bar tender if you paid for the drinks. You will never have to tell them what you want again. They will remember, and they will give the best booze and as much of it as you can handle (ask for a topper). I have rambled enough. Please stop watching the idiots on tv and get off your butt and go to Mexico. It is beautiful, the people are great and you will not be disappointed. Unless you are a grumpy [--]that complains about everything and believes all they say on tv. You should just stay at home, in bed and never leave your house because the world is going to end and we are all doomed. The rest of us…get out and have fun, spend some money. You can’t take it with you and were all going to die of something, sometime.

After reading many a review I decided it won't be all that bad to try, after all I was just after a little R&R all by myself. It was horrible. When the shuttle dropped me off....I was in shock. It was in the middle of nowhere, and the lobby was dark, dingy and humid. I gave it time though, I had been up for awhile traveling and wrote it off to being tired. The pool was small, the beach was horrific...full of seaweed and small. The food was terrible and the drinks were worse. I went to sleep hoping the next day would be better. The next morning breakfast was worse...flies on the food and they were serving things that I have no idea what they were. I spoke to the RCI representative and told him how disappointed I was. I was moved to the Grand Mayan in Playa Del Carmen....now that is what a vacation should be. Once the staff knew I was moving they were rude and not helpful at all. My advice....don't stay here....everything was awful. I must say I spent less money at the Grand Mayan which wasn't all inclusive and had a much better vacation. STAY AWAY from the Blue Bay Club!!!!

We have been to Cancun many times and I can honestly say that the Blue Bay Club is absolutely my favorite place to go. The resort is very clean and beautiful. From the moment we arrive, we feel at home. Carlos, the door man is awesome. He goes out of his way to be accommodating and always has a smile on his face.
We have never had any compaints about our room. They have always been large, clean and comfortable. Occasionally there is a slight musty smell, but that is to be expected any place where there is high humidity. Turning on the air conditioner eleminates that problem.
There is seaweed on the beach but the workers are always raking and cleaning it up. There is only so much you can do when your fighting against mother nature. Generally the water is a beautiful aqua blue, but I have noticed that when the winds blow from the north it tends to churn up the sea and cools the temps down quite a bit. I also read that someone thought they were pumping sewage out into the water. It would be a good thing to make sure before you write such things. What they are pumping out is sand. They move the sand from one place to the other to keep the water deep enough for the boats to drive into the marina. It's actually quite interesting to see.
The sports and entertainment crew are unbelieveable! They work so hard all day making sure that everyone is happy and then they put on an absolutely awesome show three nights a week. It's incredible how many hours a week these people work and yet they are always smiling and always make us feel welcome! Luis, Dario and Joaquin are the best! If you take the time to get to know these people you would truely be impressed.
The bar tenders really know how to make a good drink! Especially Orlando and Lizardo (A.K.A. Harry Potter). Lizardo is also an artist. He makes bugs out of palm leaves that you would think are real. I know that for a fact because I ran screaming when I saw one for the first time! IF you ask him he would probably make one to show you.
It's hard to believe how many people spend hour after hour at the bar and never leave a tip. You would never do that anywhere else, so why would you do that there. These people work so hard to make your vacation special and at the least they deserve a tip to show them that their hard work is appreciated.
If I had to find something to complain about I would say that it would be nice if they offered more dancing. If DJ Charlie could play music for a few hours in the evening it would really be great! Or if not Charlie, just have music playing loud enough out on the deck to dance to. I have heard many people say that they wish they could dance without having to go into one of the crowded clubs in the hotel zone. I guess it's not really a complaint, more like a request.
The resort is a bit out of the beaten path but that only adds to it's charm. I like the fact that is is quiet and peaceful and yet it is only a short bus or taxi ride to the hectic and busy Hotel Zone.
The food has always been good. It may not be as fancy as some of the more expensive places but I think they have a good variety and it is always fresh. I have never left hungry!
For all these reasons and more that I haven't even mentioned I think this resort is one of the best!
