My husband and I just returned from the BBG with 6 of our friends and we had an absolute blast. Let me tell you something, if you're going down there and reading reviews, don't bother reading the negative ones. I'm not really sure how anyone could have a bad time at that place. The staff was great, our rooms weren't dirty, smelly or any of the other various adjectives that have been used. The food at the restaraunts was fantastic, just get there early enough in the morning to make your reservations. The buffet food was pretty good, had a pretty large selection, but it's buffet food, not fine dining, so if you keep that in mind, you can't really complain! The hamburguesas were muy delicioso!! What a great late night snack! Please keep in mind that those servicing you rely on tips to make a living, just like anywhere else. We tipped a lot, and it may sound redundant, but I was surprised by the number of people that I saw consistently without money in their hands. Maybe that's why their drinks were watered down:) Mine tasted great!! Also, don't be intimidated by reviews that say the BBG is this crazy place either. It is what you make it. If you want to do topless water aerobics at the crazy pool, go right ahead, you wouldn't be the only one. If you want to lay low, go chill out by the quiet pool (the bar is less crowded over there anyway) or lay down at the beach where you can stare at the most beautiful ocean water you'll ever see. It's a wonderful place to have a vacation. I'd stay at the BBG again in a heartbeat!!

My husband and I stayed at the Blue Bay during Spring Break '06. It wasn't quite what we expected. We are in our early 30s and were absolutely the youngest ones there! Yes, it is very entertaining there. We entertained ourselves by laughing at all of the women who REALLY should have kept their tops ON!
The staff was exceptional! I have never been waited on so well and they were all so gracious and thankful that we were spending money there to boost the economy since the hurricane. We found that attitude to be the same no matter where we went in Cancun. We tipped the waiters, bartenders, and housekeepers about $2-$5 each time.
The food was okay. The breakfast was actually pretty good and the fresh juices were excellent...watermelon, honey dew, cantaloupe, orange, papaya...
Lunch and dinner were kind of plain but it was free and it was edible.
A few nights we went down to Market 28 and had some EXCELLENT Mexican food and WONDERFUL drinks for less than $20 USD! The Pina Colada was the best I have ever tasted, again the fruits that they use are so fresh! I can't say enough about that!
We just kind of did our own thing, took a few excursions, Chitchin Itza, and La Isla Mujeres. We had a wonderful time at La Isla Mujeres. Chitchin Itza was definitely an experience but it was HOT!!!

Overall we felt like we got our moneys worth but we will be staying at the Royal Sands next time. Their resort does not even compare to Blue Bay and they have an ocean with waves....
Back to Blue Bay, the games were definitely hilarious and worth watching. I think you need an open mind, a sense of humor, and to really enjoy it, you probably need to at least be in your 50s. I hope I am that active and reckless at that age!

My husband and I and 6 of our friends stayed at BBG Mar.19 thru the 24th 2006. We had a blast! Not so sure what some of these poor reviews are all about! It's not the Ritz or even the Hilton but your not paying for that anyway. If you are looking to cut loose, have a good time, drink a lot, and be entertained this is the place for you. I'd even say that if you are just looking to relax, have some drinks, and sit on the beach this is the place for you. BBG is what you make of it. There is a lot of topless sunbathing and activities for that matter, but that really only adds to the entertainment. It seeing a lot of chi chi's is not your thing, this isn't the place for you!

Beach- What's up w/ the poor reviews of the beach?? It's pretty big in my book and plenty of chairs and umbrellas for relaxing. We are more pool people so we hung out there, but the beach was nice (I couldn't find all those rocks everyone was talking about) and the water was clean.

Food- I'd say above average for an all-inclusive resort. The Embarcadero (buffett) is good. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING. The a la carte restaurants (reservations only, and get up early for that) were some of the best meals I've eaten. And the lunch and late night hamburgers and cheese fries were da bomb! Just what you need after you've had too many drinks at the pool bar!

Drinks- Do come in small cups. Bring a larger insulated cup and they'll serve you two you can dump into your cup. We didn't think they were watered down at all, but tipping is key. That'll be sure to get you stiffer and more frequent drinks, sometimes w/out asking. The "house" liquors were good too, no need to upgrade.

Rooms-Adequate, but what are you doing hanging out in your room anyway??? They are very clean and the showers always have hot water. Leave the maids a tip every day and they leave you a treat.

Activities- Hilarious! The entertainment staff (well all the staff for that matter) works their ---- off. The are there first thing in the morning and I don't thing they leave until after they take you out to the bars at night. You can get as involved in the activities as you want. But if that's not your thing you can hang out by the quiet pool and just chill.

The main bar is still under construction, but that didn't stop any of our fun. We hung out at Margarita's bar most night and were happy to find good drinks and snacks to keep our drinking games lively all night. They did have a bus going to at least one of the bars down in the hotel zone nightly if you wanted to really go crazy I guess. Overall we had a wonderful time and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Hola everybody: I am Jim from California, "veteran" of 6 trips to Bluebay Getaway. I am also a survivor of Hurricane Wilma this past October 20-24, 2005 and I am still heading back a week from tomorrow.
After reading many of your reviews I am happy to see so many of you had a good to great time at "Getaway". I still read reviews from people who felt the resort was "dirty", "bad food", "watered down drinks","bad service", etc! I don't get it. Could I be so luck with 6 great trips and you got screwed? Now, I must tell you something----I am a "Premier" member since 2002. Maybe they treat me better than you! But I don't think so. I do score a "sexy pool front" room but other than that the staff, most anyway, does not know me anymore than you. So what gives?
I wish to openly say thanks to Chinos, Jose and Omar, of the "Getaway Activity Cast" for caring for 1200 of us during the Hurricane last October. These guys are troopers, sincere, hard working, funny entertainers and now I know they got "HEART" too.
The resort got beat up bad like the rest of Cancun but the Mexican people pulled together and made it better than ever. I invite anyone with a sunny disposition to head to the Yucatan and straight for Bluebay Getaway. Enjoy being able to REALLY feel free to just "goof all", laugh, visit and have a blast. It's all included, really.
And lastly I wish to say "mucho graicas" to the De la Pena family for caring for all your guest during the hurricane AND afterwards.
