Firstly we had read a lots of reviews and were a little apprehensive about the hotel we chose. Its not a five star but your not paying 5 star prices and no where does it say its a five star hotel so stop reading now and go down the strip if thats what your after. As for the timeshares, I think they only hassle Americans as we were never bothered, nor were any others from our flight.
We loved it we arrived on a change over day so was very quiet and relaxing, drinks brought to you as you relaxed in the sun by the pool and the beach. Yeah there plenty of topless women but if your offended by that don't go to Europe. The resort overall reminded me of Spain, only three floors high so you get the sun the whole day long, cheesy music and plenty to drink. Pure hoilday heaven, the beach is lovely if you want to get away from it, plenty of sun loungers and beds to chill out on. The sand and scenery are very beautiful and the sea is not too bad, yeah its a bit weedy but if thats not your thing there are plenty of pools. The food was great the buffet was a huge let down over the 2 weeks we stayed at dinner it had run out of food by 8pm but you could chose of the menu which I thought was better. The Asian was my favourite. The service was always excellent and everyone was so helpful. Alfredo at the bikini bar was our favourite bar man he was always friendly and always remembered our names and drinks. There is plenty to do to suit all tastes though the resort does die by 11pm so you either head to the clubs or bed. Patio Bar is open till 6am but it soon empties out past midnight.
As for the drinks being watered down I found that to be quite the opposite, sometimes too strong, the cocktails are a little weaker and the beer is week till a few then it hits you. There no cider if you come from the UK.
The room was lovely, never got are towel folded like a swan, but the room was alway cleaned throughly and the fridge was always stocked. (A tip empty your fridge every day if you want it fully re-filled as they only replace what you have used). The balcony was huge and we had a great view around the quiet pool and the sea. though I think we were lucky, as some other couples we spoke to had to change there rooms a few times. The only complaint would be, is very little storage for your clothes. There was 5 hangers and 3 very shallow draws to but 2 weeks and 2 peoples stuff, but its not the end of the world.
Buses are great they run every 5-10 mins and cost 7.5 peso (0.35p) We got buses every where and were always good, we did use taxis some of the time but you must haggle we found paying in peso got us a better rate but most the shops and clubs price in dollars first. The hotel is far apart from the rest of Cancun about 10-15 min bus ride and is seperated by a bridge and a lot of abandon buildings. But there is bus stop just over the road to take you into town and a bus stop right next to the hotel on the way back so its easy to get around. Coco bongo is without a doubt the best bar there though the show seems to repeat its self so best for probably the one trip. Most bars charge a cover and then free drinks so make sure you like the place before entering.
Overall I loved it, its not the Ritz, But its cheap, relaxing and clean. I would definatly return, it has been my best hoilday ever and can't quite imagin going anywhere else.
