My boyfriend and I stayed at BBG from March 28th to April 4th. We had a great time. Because of the nature of the games at the "sexy pool" this was a "different" type of vacation than our last one. (That one was a bit more low key...LOL!) One reason we choose BBG is because it was adult only and we knew that Cancun would be full of spring breakers and thought the 21 and up age limit would make it more our speed, but still lots of fun at an affordable price.
We arrived in Cancun and had decided to take the Colletivo to the hotel to save a bit of money. If we go back we will certainly be taking a cab unless our group fills the collectivo. We just waited too long IMO in a warm van waiting for it to fill and it seemed to take a quite a while to get to our destination. Too much of a hassle for 20 bucks in savings.
We arrived at BBG at about 5 pm. When we checked in we asked for an ocean view room. He said he gave us a better room but no ocean view. We tipped him 20 bucks for the better room. We went to a room on the first floor near the court yard close to the sexy pool. It was very cutely decorated but smelled a little musty and small. The front desk clerk said to come back if it wasnt ok so I sent my bf back. He came back and told me he got us a better room. We ended up with a third floor room with partial ocean view and overlooking the quiet pool. In my opinion it was the ideal location. Very quiet at night, the room was large with a mini fridge and despite the fact the furnishings werent as cute as the last room it didnt smell musty at all. I think it was room 1322. We unpacked our bags while waiting to get the safe set (this only took a few minutes from the call to the desk). The housekeeper een made us towel animals every day!
Food: We ate at the buffet every morning except the one day we had an early excursion. Breakfast runs until noon so you can still make it if you stay up late partying! They have a small continental breakfast set up in the lobby bar for those who are up early and are going on excursions. The main breakfast buffet is pretty good. They have fresh made omlets and fried eggs made to order. They also have fresh pasteries (that I ate every day!) The waffles are behind the egg station and are made by the same cook to order...I didnt know about them until the 6th day and they are MUCH better than the pancakes and french toast that are in the buffet. We only ate at the buffet once for lunch as we usually didnt want to get redressed or werent at the resort for it. The one we did have had really good ribs and kabobs at the grill area. Over by the quiet pool during lunch hours the Bellavista will serve you either at the pool or in the restaurant if you arent too wet. They have AWESOME burgers (I know I know who eats burgers in Mexico but really they are darn good) the pizza wasnt good at all. We made reservations at two of the specialty restaurants. The Italian one was pretty good. There wasnt as much flavorings as I would put into them but still good. Have the Flambe! We also ate once at the seafood/steakhouse. That was pretty good also again not as much seasoning as we like but still pretty good. It was nice to not eat at a buffet. The service was great at all the restaurants. They also have a small buffet that has either mexican or snacks until very late. Pretty good stuff there too.
Drinks: Like I hear about most All inclusives they were watered down. HOWEVER I think that considering the amount that most people are drinking it is doing a public service. I never failed to get at minimum a good buzz going! LOL! Migal at the swim up bar in the sexy pool is the BEST and he would make them stronger if you asked. My drink was never empty. Ask him for a rainbow shot...YUM!
Entertainment: There is ALOT going on at this hotel! However if quiet solitde is more your thing stay by the quiet pool. There were always chairs at that pool open and there is a swim up bar there too! The poolside entertainment starts at 10am and run all day. Chairs by this pool fill up quick. There was anything from horseshoes to volleyball to the "contests" Like Mr. and Miss BlueBay. The majority of the contests are "adult" in nature and people sometimes end up with their cothes off. But rememeber it is a topless optional resort (by the pools and beach only) so many of the contestants may be half naked to begin with. The people who are so disgusted with this hotel's entertainment...well frankly I just dont understand. While it isnt "classy" there is enough info on the web to tell you what you are in for at BBG and yet you choose to stay there. I mostly knew what I was in for. I did see naked people and that was a bit of a surprise. I ended up participating in a game my first day at the pool. It was a bit more than I expected (watch out for crazy darts....) but I was able to roll with the punches. All the games were fun to watch and laugh at. If you didnt know in advance about these things the quiet pool was just a few steps away. Not sure what the deal with the YMCA and Mexico is but I heard it daily at the resort and then at other places too. There was nightly entertainment at the hotel bar "Nice Shoes". We only went to that bar once but i did hear good things about other nights. The hotel entertainment staff also took you to a club each night with all inclusive for a 40 dollar fee. There was a booze cruise also on Friday nights only for BBG. That was fun. And dont forget to utilize channel 12 every chance you get while in the room...it is free! ;O) There are free Hobiecats with lessons that was a ton of fun.
Beach: there were always plenty of chairs on the beach. It wasnt the most stellar beach as there was a rocky area and there was quite a bit of seaweed but they did work hard to clean it up. Lots of shells.
My biggest complaint was not getting a wake up call for a day trip that we requested and almost missed the trip. Bring a clock. Also I wish there had been a HOT TUB. Each pool has 4 sunk in areas with jets but they share the unheated pool water so it wasnt the same.
Out and about: We went off grounds a few times. One day we took the ferry over to Isla Murjeres and spent the day driving a golf cart around over there. That place is Beautiful. Do like we did and go on your own. Take your golf cart over to the far side of the island. There are some BEAUTIFUL places to pull over and just take in the ocean views. We also went to Xel Ha. That was fun also. We also went on the pirate dinner cruise. The dinner was good as were the drinks. The show was entertaining but it had me longing to have my kids there....LOL!
