“Nice Resort”

Just got back from Club Internacional. We spent the week of May 20th. We exchanged a timeshare. Try to book your room ahead of time. When we got there they wanted to give us a room way out of the way of everything on the street side. When we said "no way" they found us a great room overlooking one of the pools. It helps if you print out a map of the resort ahead of time so at check in you can see where they will put you. Royalresorts.com will allow you to print a map of the place. The room was very nice. It was clean and the maid came every day. You use your room key to pay for everything. No cash used except for tipping.

I was disappointed with the beach. Very shallow water and a little dirty. Not enticing to go in. The pools are very nice and the restaurant was okay. They run a shuttle bus to the other 4 royal resorts but its every two hours. We actually took the city bus quite often to get around. Bus stop right outside hotel and they came about every minute. Also it was cheap. The 4 other resorts were huge. The beach is nice. You get the blue ocean water but at this time of year they have sea lice so you shouldn't go in because you can get a nasty rash. Also the water was pretty rough. The Royal Sands had a really nice pool and a really good restaurant called La Veranda.

Weather was very hot, humid and sunny. It rained a few of the nights but just for a short period of time.

For a timeshare exchange it was fine. Staff very friendly. I would not stay here if you aren't trading a timeshare. Lots of activities in Cancun. We did dolphin swim at the aquarium. That was really fun. The show at Hacienda Sisal was just OK. A lot of money. Not really worth it. It was a fun time but would not go back to this resort mainly because of the beach. If you are a beach person this is not really the right resort. If you like lounging at the pool it is great. Much smaller than other royal resorts. Lots of regulars that know each other. Do not do a timeshare presentation. We did and it was a mistake. 90 minutes turned into 4 1/2 hours from the time we left the resort. They will offer perks but be prepared to have it take half of your day!

This is a great budget hotel in the heart of downtown Cancun. It is a short walk to the bus station (for 3 USD bus to airport!) Downtown shopping is only steps away. Wal-mart, Chedraui and Commerical Mexicana are all short walks. The bus to the hotel zone runs very frequently- every few minutes 24 hours a day. And it's only 6.5 pesos! (USD 0.60) The hotel itself is clean and the staff are friendly. The room was good sized with 2 double beds, wall unit ac that was ice cold, and a small 13" TV that got about 15 or so Mexican stations. Bathroom was small but functional. Shower only with no bath. Water pressure lower than what I'm used to but adequate especially to Mexican standards. The pool looked wonderful and very clean, but I never got a chance to get in it. Always at the beach instead..
I give this 4 out of 5 only relation to the price I paid.. Had I paid a hundred bucks a night for this place I would have been dissatisfied with it. I paid 49 USD a night plus tax. It is not a 4 star hotel but a clean, quality 2 star hotel. Overall it's an excellent value in Cancun and I would come back in a heartbeat.

“Fawlty Towers”

I can't say it is terrible as I am sure there has to be worse. A drunk bellman, a dirty room. I speak Spanish, I lived in Mexico for many years. I know reasonable standards. You used to be able to get a decent room in downtown Cancun listening to the discos and sirens for 60.00 USD/ night. But not anymore. All I can say is it it Cancun's Fawlty Towers. The front desk staff did try hard and could only work with the product they are given. The website does not accurately represent the property but the parking was secure.

“Love it here!”

I spend the whole summer and all lengthy school holidays in Cancun. I always stay at his hotel with my fiancee, Alfredo, who works at the Costa Real. I love it because I can walk anywhere alone and get what I need while he is at work. I never worry about my safety in this neighborhood. You can walk to Market 28 and shop. (There is THE BEST restaurant there, El Cejas, you must try it. Wal Mart, Burger King, and Subway are within walking distance, too. The staff is friendly and they speak surprisingly good English. They provide excellent service, and will try to get you what you need. The bar/restaurant opens late, but it's Mexico. (Everything gets started late here.) The bar tender will send someone around the corner to get you the best, and extremely cheap quesidillas. There is a liquor store and a small "Quick Trip" right across the street. El Pharmacia is right next door if you need some Advil. The sun is a little odd at times. I can't get much of a tan in winter, but I was at the pool from 8:00am to 4:00 pm every day this summer and man, I think I looked Mexican I was so brown. I will spend all of my vacations here. I just love it!

I had explored this place, visited their lobby bar on a number of occasions, and had eaten a decent American breakfast in their restaurant once - when exploring around Downtown Cancun or before heading out to the airport. Apparently they get a lot of tour groups in high season, and might still have some affiliation with a beach club out in the Hotel Zone. Like a previous writer, it struck me as a good place for an overnite in Cancun. So this last trip, we thought it might be fun to just tool around Downtown, eat and drink our first nite, before heading out to Isla Mujeres for our diving vacation. I contacted the hotel directly by e-mail thru their website, explained my purpose, and asked for a special rate for May 17, 2004. They quoted me $38, which beat their published rate for the period and sounded fine. It's true the pool is pretty much worthless, rarely clean, and having limited exposure to the sun. Also, the bar was always closed during our stay and the restaurant is gone. I think they are affiliated with a German restaurant next door. Nevertheless, we got a clean, good-sized room, with a good bathroom/ shower, hot water, fine air conditioner. TV worked, but limited local channels in Spanish (TV wasn't the object of this stay). Good view of the traffic circle below and the city. Walking close to lots of reasonable bars, restaurants, the central bus station, and the Mercado 28 (big downtown shopping market). Given the special discount price, it was just a perfect base for exploring Downtown Cancun for one afternoon and evening. Comfortable place, good lobby, elevator, lots of purified drinking water centrally located on each floor. As the other reviewers indicated, you wouldn't want to spend your vacation there, but I could see making it a home-base if you were doing some day trips to Isla, Tulum, Chichen Itza - which I think a lot of these groups do - and didn't have to pay their rack rate. I would recommend this place. It's a 5 minute walk to the bus station if you're headed down to Playa del Carmen or over to Merida. We paid 30 pesos for a cab to the Isla Mujeres ferry at the new Gran Puerto Cancun. We actually only paid 40 pesos apiece (total about $7) for the little publicized 15 minute bus ride in from Cancun International Airport. We got off the bus at the Centro Urban bus stop, and it was a five minute walk to the hotel. Airport shuttle would have cost us $18 total and taken us a full hour thru the entire Hotel Zone dropping off passengers along the way. Check out the hotel's website.
