First off, as so many others wrote, we were quite frightened by the negative reviews. Thank you for those who wrote and took the time to answer my many questions...it made all the difference in planning my great trip. We arrived on Saturday. We already own a time share and used our week for this hotel, so we did not have to participate in the presentation. I don't really understand the people who complained though...what did you expect for a free trip? Knowing that I had to sit for a couple of hours and receive a free trip...not a bad deal. Anyway, upon arrival, the concierge presented us with the information packet. We had a neck and back massage by a hotel staff person as she spoke with us. Not a bad start. She did ask if we would be interested in a presentation tour, and we politely, yet firmly said no. She did offer us a free cruise to do so, but again, turned it down. We had a spa room overlooking the ocean and pool. Very nice, not huge, but good enough for the two of us. There is a mini bar/frig in the room, but you have to pay $20 for it, unless you buy something, so we bought a $2 bag of nuts, and had access to the frig. Water bottles are for your asking at the pool bar. No, they still don't have clocks in the room, so I brought my own mini one...not a trip ruiner. Our hydrotherapy shower was not working right the first night, so we told the desk. Within minutes they were there and fixed it. The beach there really isn't nice, just like everyone said, but you have free access to the sister hotels, and we went there to swim. The food was really quite good. I've been to bigger 5 star all inclusives, and I do think the food here was better. The Sky Lounge buffet on the beach was just ok, but it was a beautiful setting. They do have better alcohol than most all inclusives too...Absolute, Chivas Regal, top shelf tequila, etc. All of the staff were personable and accommodating...Our room and the surrounding areas were kept immaculate. I do enjoy daytime activities, and again, they had this at the sister hotels, but not much at the Ocean. They should work on this. We took two trips. One to Isla Mujeres on a catamaran...I would highly recommend this to anyone...it was fabulous! Go to the pier a few hotels away for the best rates. Bargain with the man as with everything else in Mexico. We also went to Playa del Carmen...what a beautiful ocean! We didn't use the hotel spa, but many have and enjoyed it. I did go up to see it, and it looks lovely. This is definitely not a hotel for anyone looking for nightlife or wild vacations...it's small and quaint, and you will receive excellent almost individualized attention. Never crowded or waited for anything...towels, drinks, food, etc. I would like to see a bit more entertainment in the evenings there too though. They had shows and small bands at the sister hotels, and it would be more convenient not to have to travel. The breakfast buffet is awesome...fresh omelets, fruits, baked goods...very good. Lunch buffets were average. Sit down dinners were quite good...portions not huge, but you can order appetizers, soup, dessert, etc...especially if you go all inclusive, which I would suggest. Your wine glass is never empty, and again, you have someone watching over you before you even have to ask for a refill...very attentive staff. We had a great time, and went very prepared...which I suggest for anyone staying here. Don't be afraid to travel, take the bus, go on excursions, take the shuttle to the sister hotels. Remember, a smile and kind word to the hard working staff goes a long way. I miss it already. I'd be glad to answer any questions anyone might have...it did me a world of good...Thanks to my Canadian trip advisor friends!
