First timers to Cancun. We stayed at this resort as an exchange through our time share from the good ol' USA. We found the Ocean Hotel to be very clean and the rooms were imaculate. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Our Concierge was a young man named Jorge Ramirez. He was an excellent host and went out of his way to make sure our accomodations were more than satisfactory through out our entire stay. Jorge helped us obtain the best rates on tours and other attractions we used during our stay.

The daily maid service was great and our room was kept very well. If I had to mention of a single compalint about our room accomodations was that there was no alarm clock/radio. But we used the front desk for wake up calls and so it was a little inconvinient to call the front desk every night.

The resort amenaties are adequate. The pool is clean and the beach area is also well maintained. As first timers to cancun it would not be fair to judge/compare the Ocean Hotel against other much newer and bigger resorts, but we found it to be clean, well maintained, safe environment, which is what most travelers on a budget would expect and would like to see.

The food at the resort was very good. I'm not comparing it to a fine or high quality restaurant because it would not be fair. never the less, it was clean, well prepared and lots of it.

the resort is not as close to the "main drag" of Cancun where the bars and other restaurants are located, but the buses were always on time and very easy to use for transportation. The taxis charged way to much for a simple trip down town.

I did have a minor confrontation with one of the assistant managers named Sabrina. I had a guest who came to the hotel to meet me at the lobby. we then had breakfast at the resort. as we were in the lobby about to leave the resort, we were approached by Sabrina and she was extremely unprofessional. Sabrina some how believed that my guest was there selling time shares, (which she was not) and almost phisycally tried to throw my guest out of the hotel. Sabrina completely ignored me and failed to ask me if i knew who she was. I finally had to intervine and yelled at Sabrina telling her that I am the guest at this hotel and have a right to have visitors and if i wanted to invite them to breakfast, there should not be a problem with that. furthermore, i told Sabrina that my guest, (my cousin who leaves in a neighboring city of Cancun) was not there selling me time shares. Once Sabrina heard my angry voice and demands to speak to the Manager she finally walked away and left us alone.

the way that Sabrina handeled this situation was extremely unprofessional and rude. Not only did Sabrina humiliate my guest, but in my opinion Sabrina was making a fool of her self in public view of other guests in the lobby where this occurred. What kind of employee, (specially an assistant manager) would treat a guest with total disregard and create a disturbance in public. Once we left the facility I did not hear from Sabrina again.
Over all, we enjoyed our stay at the Ocean Hotel despite my confrontation with Sabrina.

We purhased a Sam's Club trip last year, and I was concerned with the reviews I read at this web site. Our trip however puts the naysayers to rest, at least for my wife and I. It is a simple (everything accessible), affordable (can't believe the great exchange rate for meals and stuff in Cancun), clean (maid service very good), and laid back property.

It is better than either the Sunset Lagoon or the other sister property that faces the ocean. Both of them may have superior rooms, but honestly they are noisy, crowded and we did not feel the comfortable welcome nature in any staff at the other two properties.

We enjoyed the food, the pool, the security and the timliness of the staff when responses to our needs were made known.

If you want a Hilton, Marriott or Westin, you will pay for them but I doubt you will have a better experience.

This is Mexico and hospitality is a big factor in our enjoyment. We observed the rule about tipping - do it for every service. And it did not bankrupt us. I carried dollars to do this very thing.

I understand other guests have different experiences, and as I have traveled around the world I understand that what is good for me may not suffice for you. But - I went to this hotel very sceptical and left a true believer. What better recommendation can be given.

We are not party people, so we did not drink much - hence I cannot recommend any all inclusive. It is just not worth it. Why spend 70 dollars per person per night when you probably won't eat but one maybe two meals per day at the hotel? When you won't drink much, and there are no shows? Seems like the biggest wast of money to me. But then, this is what worked for me and if you wish to get the all inclusive, go ahead. For my wife and I, for four nights, the total USD at the hotel was $150. Purchasing the all inclusive would have been a very, very bad investment for us.

Finally, the night at the Hacienda was paid for by our attendance at the time share presentation. I must say there is a lot of pressure to buy. They feed you well, they give you a good free event (the Hacienda was marvelous, one of the best native shows we have seen) but you pay for it with your time. It was not a waste of time, but it was way too long.

Let the buyer beware. If economy is your thing, but you still wish cleanliness, honesty, and a true Mexican/Cancun beach hotel - this is for you. Have fun. We see ourselves going back to this property.

I'm at the hotel now and couldn't wait to get on my computer and write my thoughts!!! As I sit in the lobby, I am getting angrier as I look at the workers and the smirks on their faces. Everyone usually starts with the positive things about the hotel, however I’m not. The thing that broke the camels back for me is that you can’t have a visitor in your room. What kind of mess is this!! My sisters and I had two other girlfriends that stayed at a different hotel and they were going to come to our hotel and eat lunch and sit out on the beach. First, we found out that they couldn’t bring their beach bag to our room. I would have to take it to our room, next we found out that they couldn’t sit on the beach with us or eat at our hotel restaurant.

This is a bunch of BULL - YOU KNOW WHAT! I am furious about this. How come you can’t have another person (a guest) in your room? It’s like I’m on punishment or something. I’m a grown a-- women in my mid 30’s – what if I met someone here and took them to my room. I guess we would have to go to a hotel – oh what a minute I am at a hotel!! What a bunch of crock. I asked to speak to the manager and he was like sorry but they can’t come to our room, very polite but still not what I wanted to hear. I would have to buy two all day passes (50 dollars each) for my girlfriends to spend the day with us and hang out and go on the beach and access to the restaurant. This is ridiculous. We went to our girlfriend’s room with no problem, of course they were in a different hotel (much nicer) but still who cares we waited for them to get dressed and then we all left.

Secondly, the rooms have small bugs –small ants-like in the rooms. They are on the floor, on the walls, in the beds. We asked for staff to come and spray the rooms, they did promptly, however in very small amounts, so I had to ask to keep the can of spray, so I could spray the room. They don’t change the sheets – they only made up the bed. In my opinion, give me the option of changing my sheets or just making up my bed. With the bugs we wanted fresh, clean linen every day, no exceptions. We still had to call down and have our sheets changed.

This is our last night here and I’m so mad, I wish I could hang a banner up and say DON’T STAY HERE. Lastly, something was wrong with our plumbing, we had to call the plumber three times because our toilet clogged and there was a leak under the sink. Again service repair was very prompt and they corrected the problem, however these types of things should not be happening.

I bought the Sam’s promotion as others did, I didn’t do the time share. If you don’t want to do it, just tell them up front – don’t listen to the spill, bypass all of that and tell them you are not interested. This is my third time in Cancun, so I know how to book all of my activities at other locations. I informed them of this and after that you could tell they were upset but we didn’t have to hear about a timeshare anymore. The little few dollars you get off of some of those activities is not worth the headache and time.

On the positive side the lobby is nice, the beach and pool area is nice, and the food in the restaurant is okay. All of the activities are about 25 minutes away but the bus ride is really convenient – it only cost 75 cents one way to ride and the buses come about every two minutes. The cleaning staff is good and they are prompt, the front desk employees are seasoned, every complaint I had it seemed like they already knew what I was going to ask for or say before I said it – scary. Overall, I will never visit this hotel again. It was a gift from my husband and I to my sisters and I regret having them here. We made the best of it as we could.

Management response from DavidZCancun_Mexico, Manager

Dear Guest thank you for your review we are pleased that you exposed the positives as well as the things you felt needed improvement during your stay. As far as the main issue which is your friends I would like to inform you that this is common practice for resorts to have these policies. One reason for this is your safety and another is the fact that the resort is all inclusive. In this case you where given the option of having your friends spend the day with you for a very competitive rate since they where to have breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks during the day. If they where only picking you up they where seated at the lobby while waiting; either way you where given some options for your friends. We appreciate your comments and regret you felt this way.

Like many others...........I read the reviews of other guests and decide to form my own opinion. Glad I did. My husband and I were there at the same time as "jersygirls" were.
I fact we discussed Trip Advisor. Everything "jersygirls" stated I agree with. Let me now add my thoughts.

Pick up and drop off was great at the airport. We had no problems at all.

First...I brought a clock from home and a coffee pot. There is coffee every morning on the Lobby bar.........even tea.
Second....yes we did the sales presentation.......we had no intention of buying and told the man up front in the beginning. After 2 hours........I asked to see the paper that we had to signed in the beginning with a Big No on it. That was it! You do have to find your own way back to Ocean. Which wasn't a big problem. There are shuttles every hour.
Third......my husband and I had a couples massage. at the Ocean.......totally enjoyed the private time afterwards. They told as to take our time getting dressesd. We only paid the $12.00 tax.
Fourth..........Bar at the Ocean Pool opens at 7:00 am. Other resorts around 10:00.
Anything you want....and again like mentioned it other reviews..........tips help.....they will remember you!
Fifth.......we did the All Inclusive....many benefits.....we did the bike ride tours.......kayaking........lobster dinner was better than any one we have had in Florida!
Food...........nice selections....something for everyone. An additional, on Sat and Tues. nights (weather depending) the "Sky Lounge" is where a dinner buffet is served. They set tables right on the beach with lights...............very nice atmosphere!
Six...........our room was 301........Great!!! Very clean!!!!
Sugestions: Ocean needs to list the daily events in Lobby or at breakfast....
Behind the stage at the Lagoon is a great snack bar........menu great!
Try to do atleast one show at either resorts. Night life at Ocean is basicly the lobby bar.............Santos and Andres........make many fire drinks!!

Also if you did the all Inclusive........ask about the Costa Rica vacation for 5/4 night.......they will give you phone number to call. I called...we will be going at the end of summer before school starts again!!! I owe my husband a dollar!!!
Have Fun!! We did!!

Besides being part of a scam company the bathroom is extremely dark and even though it is an all inclusive, they don't provide you with water in the room. We got there a 2am (after a 5 hour delay flight) and I had to go all the way own to the front desk to get a cup of water from a jar the keep there (who knows if it was boiled). The phone doesn't really connect to the front desk and even though you need to be a certain time for different activities, there isn't any type of clock in the room.
Other than the room and the 4 hour (not 90 min) presentation, where they don't care how many times you say no, they still try to sell you a vacation which is not a deal if you really think about it. Other than that, the attention is very good and you can tell employees work hard for their money.
