the front desk was terrible and the concierge was of no help unless you did the time share tour
if you didnt do the time share thing they totally ignored you and you were on your own, they wouldnt help you do anything or set up any tours.

the hotel is far away form all of the shopping and restaurants and you had to take the bus or a cab to go any where.

it was very noisy the first two nights we were there and their idea of moving you to another room was to put you in a room facing the front behind a sign so the room had no view.

you were forced to upgrade your room even though you said no you got just try it and see if you like it but woudnt change you to another room when you said you didnt like it.

you had to go to another hotel to go swimming

the food at the restaurant was good but very very expensive.

Dear Guest thank you for your review, we appreciate all of the comments and would like to thank you for addressing the positives as well as the areas you felt needed work. Regarding the Concierge staff we have provided them with additional training, their goal is providing information to assist tourists during their vacation and we regret if this is not how they came across. The Ocean Spa has 3 affiliated resorts in the area which are connected by complimentary shuttle transportation; this is a plus and does not mean that there is no swimming available at the Ocean Spa; in fact it has two pools on top of being beach front. In reference to your comments about the room, all of them have a partial ocean view and if you are not satisfied with something the management is more than willing to assist you. We thank you for your positive comments about the food and would like to inform you that we have different options and meal plans available. We hope to have you as a future guest with us and thank you once again for your comments.

WOW! I expected this trip to be insane with high demands, rudeness of staff, and the staff at this hotel just doing what they wanted to do with a hotel that was not all together.

Not the case at all!

I read some of the other reviews, stating that they were basically harassed to purchase over and over with drilling from managers etc. We experience the opposite. Now, I understand that they must do their jobs and this means that you must meet with the entire staff before they allow your answer of “No” to be met, that’s only fair, so we totally understood this part.
Also, in defense of some of the other reviews stating that they were drilled for hours. I agree with you and that is ridiculous, I don’t care if I paid .5 cents for this trip. The presentation states 90mins in writing and therefore, people should not be drilled for hours. Maybe the timeshare needs to change the 90mins presentation to times various (don’t give them any ideas right..lol). However, the entire time we were moving and so it did not seen like hours to us.
Anywho! Back to my review…The Ocean Hotel was not bad at all. Yes, this is a basic hotel but the staff is very clean and consistently cleaning or keeping up with the areas of the hotel, this was a major plus in our book! My vote is that they did well with the hotel that was present for them to keep up with and I felt that they did there jobs to each highest ability.
Traveling on the free shuttle back and forward can be exhausting but worth it. The food at Ocean is standard but again they cater too you for the price that you paid. We even kept trying to give tip money to my host at the dinner eating tables and he would say: Oooh no, that’s okay….he was such a sweetheart.

Ocean has no beach but the Jet Ski boys are on site to get you ready for any tour of your liken. They kept coming down on the price so never pay full price! Don’t get over on them and be kind but you can negotiate.
Ocean is very quiet and more of an older crowd but less than 10min rides on the bus into town for nightlife etc. Very safe to ride the public bus back and forward. No problem. We are city people, so we don’t freak out at a crowed bus load, who cares everyone are people and the bus rides were fun!
The other hotels were nice as well. Royal of course was the largest and best only because of there Spa, Beach, and Restaurants. We just keep getting gifts and did not even purchase a timeshare. Our tour guide person was the best! When you go for your presentation which is the next day you are there, you eat breakfast which is the normal, then they take you on a small ferry over to Royal for the huge presentation with the other managers to talk down the price that was quoted. So, instead of taking the free shuttle, you get to go on the ocean via a ferry ride over to the Royal, again time is passing away but you are relaxed in the process of it all. Ocean water relaxes us. Nice little 5mins ferry ride. Remind you – you are still drinking your cool island drinks while doing all of this! We loved it! Because I never been to Cancun and so it was worth it for us.

At the end of our presentation, we received a bottle of red wine. How nice right??…more gifts. We got to get spa treatments for $15 US for 30mins (crazy)! Another nice added feature..and guess what?? Your presentation is over and you now have the rest of your 5 or 6 days to relax and enjoy Cancun.
Will we be back?? Of course, within a heartbeat! No swine flu reports from us either, the media needed to stop freakin out!

All in All a great trip..The staff in Cancun, people in Cancun made us feel welcomed.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in mid-April 2009. We were there for 5 days, and the first 3 went just fine. HOWEVER, on the 4th day we realized that our room has a vent in the bathroom that leads to a cabinet in the hall that can be opened and then whomever is in the hall can see into our bathroom! We found this out the hard way, since I caught someone taking pictures of me through our bathroom vent with a camera phone! I was just livid. We could not find who it was, since when we stepped into the hall, there was no one there. My thoughts are it was a staff member, since it was not obvious what these cabinets led to when we arrived. The manager was no help at all. He was not sympathetic. We did not get anything to reconsile our privacy being totally broken. We were offered another room, but that room had the same vent leading to the hallway. He stated it was regulation and that all the rooms had it. This was the first hotel I've seen with this, and it was really disturbing to find someone taking pictures of me through our bathroom vent!! I am a US citizen, so obviously I had no pull once so ever in Mexico. We basically stayed our last night, and couldn't leave fast enough. Until this incident, our stay was fine. But after it was obvious that they did not care to do anything for our loss. I left feeling violated.

To Whom It May Concern

All of the reviews that are posted on this site are taken very seriously and taken into consideration. This review contains some very serious allegations which we have researched and investigated. At any time when a guest reports something like this, immediate attention is provided and in this case our manager and investigative team immediately went to the room to receive the full report. The manager immediately offered a solution which was a change in room, the guest declined. The next morning the guests left very early and did not approach the manager which did not enable him to offer any compensation.

As for the situation I would like to add that the ventilation in the bathroom is crucial and therefore these vents are needed. The small door that is in the hallway is not very easy to open, and once opened it cannot be closed easily; this door looks into a hallway where all of the plumbing exists and the vent that actually is in the bathroom is very high up in which case the person taking the photograph would have needed to be standing on a chair to look into the bathroom.

Despite extensive research on our part, we have been unable to find evidence that this door was ever open during that time. Additionally I would like to mention that our hotel staff is not permitted to use mobile phones while being on the property and this rule is enforced. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact your travel agent.

First timers to Cancun. We stayed at this resort as an exchange through our time share from the good ol' USA. We found the Ocean Hotel to be very clean and the rooms were imaculate. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Our Concierge was a young man named Jorge Ramirez. He was an excellent host and went out of his way to make sure our accomodations were more than satisfactory through out our entire stay. Jorge helped us obtain the best rates on tours and other attractions we used during our stay.

The daily maid service was great and our room was kept very well. If I had to mention of a single compalint about our room accomodations was that there was no alarm clock/radio. But we used the front desk for wake up calls and so it was a little inconvinient to call the front desk every night.

The resort amenaties are adequate. The pool is clean and the beach area is also well maintained. As first timers to cancun it would not be fair to judge/compare the Ocean Hotel against other much newer and bigger resorts, but we found it to be clean, well maintained, safe environment, which is what most travelers on a budget would expect and would like to see.

The food at the resort was very good. I'm not comparing it to a fine or high quality restaurant because it would not be fair. never the less, it was clean, well prepared and lots of it.

the resort is not as close to the "main drag" of Cancun where the bars and other restaurants are located, but the buses were always on time and very easy to use for transportation. The taxis charged way to much for a simple trip down town.

I did have a minor confrontation with one of the assistant managers named Sabrina. I had a guest who came to the hotel to meet me at the lobby. we then had breakfast at the resort. as we were in the lobby about to leave the resort, we were approached by Sabrina and she was extremely unprofessional. Sabrina some how believed that my guest was there selling time shares, (which she was not) and almost phisycally tried to throw my guest out of the hotel. Sabrina completely ignored me and failed to ask me if i knew who she was. I finally had to intervine and yelled at Sabrina telling her that I am the guest at this hotel and have a right to have visitors and if i wanted to invite them to breakfast, there should not be a problem with that. furthermore, i told Sabrina that my guest, (my cousin who leaves in a neighboring city of Cancun) was not there selling me time shares. Once Sabrina heard my angry voice and demands to speak to the Manager she finally walked away and left us alone.

the way that Sabrina handeled this situation was extremely unprofessional and rude. Not only did Sabrina humiliate my guest, but in my opinion Sabrina was making a fool of her self in public view of other guests in the lobby where this occurred. What kind of employee, (specially an assistant manager) would treat a guest with total disregard and create a disturbance in public. Once we left the facility I did not hear from Sabrina again.
Over all, we enjoyed our stay at the Ocean Hotel despite my confrontation with Sabrina.

We purhased a Sam's Club trip last year, and I was concerned with the reviews I read at this web site. Our trip however puts the naysayers to rest, at least for my wife and I. It is a simple (everything accessible), affordable (can't believe the great exchange rate for meals and stuff in Cancun), clean (maid service very good), and laid back property.

It is better than either the Sunset Lagoon or the other sister property that faces the ocean. Both of them may have superior rooms, but honestly they are noisy, crowded and we did not feel the comfortable welcome nature in any staff at the other two properties.

We enjoyed the food, the pool, the security and the timliness of the staff when responses to our needs were made known.

If you want a Hilton, Marriott or Westin, you will pay for them but I doubt you will have a better experience.

This is Mexico and hospitality is a big factor in our enjoyment. We observed the rule about tipping - do it for every service. And it did not bankrupt us. I carried dollars to do this very thing.

I understand other guests have different experiences, and as I have traveled around the world I understand that what is good for me may not suffice for you. But - I went to this hotel very sceptical and left a true believer. What better recommendation can be given.

We are not party people, so we did not drink much - hence I cannot recommend any all inclusive. It is just not worth it. Why spend 70 dollars per person per night when you probably won't eat but one maybe two meals per day at the hotel? When you won't drink much, and there are no shows? Seems like the biggest wast of money to me. But then, this is what worked for me and if you wish to get the all inclusive, go ahead. For my wife and I, for four nights, the total USD at the hotel was $150. Purchasing the all inclusive would have been a very, very bad investment for us.

Finally, the night at the Hacienda was paid for by our attendance at the time share presentation. I must say there is a lot of pressure to buy. They feed you well, they give you a good free event (the Hacienda was marvelous, one of the best native shows we have seen) but you pay for it with your time. It was not a waste of time, but it was way too long.

Let the buyer beware. If economy is your thing, but you still wish cleanliness, honesty, and a true Mexican/Cancun beach hotel - this is for you. Have fun. We see ourselves going back to this property.
