This was our second trip to Ambiance Villas (the first in 2005), and it will likely not be our last. We really enjoy the laid back atmosphere, the beach, and the location.

Ambiance Villas is different from the big all inclusives, the chains, and the other high-rise properties. Your room is one of 3-4 buildings, four stories tall (with no elevator). We reserved a standard room, which was spacious, and nicely furnished. On our first trip, we were upgraded to a 1 BR suite, so I was a little bummed that the standard room doesn't include a mini-fridge, but we worked around it. We could not check in until 3 pm, but they held our luggage and we changed into swimsuits and hit the beach.

Most of the rooms include daily breakfast, which is pretty good - fruits, cereals, pastries, a few steam trays of hot food, and a made to order omelet station. It wasn't extravagant, but there was always something good. The main restaurant only appeared to be open for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are available at the beach restaurant. We had one very good lunch and one below average lunch at their restaurant. For our other lunches, we ate in a small strip of shops and a market across the street and to the right (west). There were several good (and cheap) options available. We never ate onsite for dinner (too many good options in the hotel zone). You're about a 10-15 minute walk from the convention center, or there is a bus stop in front of the hotel.

The best feature of the property is the beach. The sand is soft and powdery - about the consistency of sugar. There is a lot of space between the grounds and the water line, and the hotel has a lot of chairs, palyapas, and palm trees to provide shade. The best part: you don't have to get up a 7 am to reserve a spot - there were always good spots available. The water is crystal clear and you'd see more waves stepping into a bath tub. They have a section of water roped off, and at the far rope line the water was no more than chest deep on me (I'm 6'0"). If you've seen or read about the beaches (post-hurricane) on the other side of the"7", you'll know what a gem this beach is. There is also a nice, but smaller swimming pool and a small children's pool, but we spent all of our time on the beach. There is no "activities DJ" playing music and games, which we are very happy about.

Complaints? Few and fairly minor. At check-in, we asked if they offered the ability to upgrade to all inclusive and we told no. On our last day, I noticed their check-in paperwork mentioned that AI was available. It would have been nice to go AI for a day or two, but the drinks were pretty reasonable and there is a supermarket about 5 minutes away. Also, there is a bar near the lobby that was never open (it was on our first trip). It would have been nice to have a nightcap and enjoy the evening. Finally, to get ice, you need to take your ice bucket down to the bar at the beach restaurant. While it was somewhat inconvenient, it wasn't so bad that I bought a bag of ice.

In conclusion, I almost hate to post this review because I'd like to keep this little gem a secret for as long as possible. While it's not for everyone (those who want 5 star accommodations, activities, several dining options, elevators, or a great AI need not apply) it is ideal for people wanting quiet relaxation, a great (and kid friendly) beach experience, and multi-person rooms for extended families.

We have stayed at Ambiance Villas three times. We love the two bedroom suites which work out perfect for our family of five. The beach is excellent and the grounds are maintained to perfection. The staff have always been very accommodating and friendly. Location is convenient and within walking distance of clubs and restaurants. On site bar/restaurant has good quality food. Truly a great place for a relaxing family vacation. I know we'll be back again.

My husband and I stayed at Ambiance March 19-26. It was our first vacation without our 16 month old. Our goal was to relax and enjoy some time away from work and parenthood. Ambiance did not disappoint!

We stayed in a standard room with a garden view. We had a peek at the ocean too. The room was very clean but nothing fancy. Two beds, tv, dresser, bathroom, and closet. I was hoping it would include a small refrigerator, but it did not. No problem. We went to Wal-Mart and got a cooler.

Our plan included daily breakfast. It was great! They serve until 11, so it's possible to eat a little later, then just only need to buy dinner! They had a good variety of food: omelets made to order, potatoes, pancakes, french toast (those varied by day), fresh fruit, pastries, juices, cereal, and toast.

The hotel grounds were beautiful. Someone was always cleaning something during the day, evening, and night.

We spent a lot of time on the beach. It was outstanding! Soft, white sand that is not hot and a huge beach with a ton of chairs. The water is nice and calm. The waitstaff on the beach took great care of us. Things were reasonably priced. We had lunch a few times there as well. Great food and drinks all week.

We were at Ambiance during the height of spring break season, but we didn't have problems with spring breakers at all. Sure, they were there, but during the day they were on the beach and at night they would go elsewhere. We could hear a PA system booming from several hotels down and we were so happy to not be there!

The hotel overall is pretty quiet. We did have a few mornings where housekeeping woke us up early making a lot of noise in neighboring rooms.

Overall, Ambiance Villas is a great place to stay. Decent rooms and an unbeatable beach!

Ambiance Villas is great if you are on a budget. The prices of the rooms were reasonable and the beach was clean and just amazing! 20 minutes from the airport and close to shopping and nightlife. The beach was big enough so you weren't on top of each other and the resort had enough chairs for everyone.

The staff was so-so. If you wanted water or anything, you had to go to the store in the resort and buy it. We didn't care b/c we were there for the beach and the sun!

Great size pool too! I have more pics if anyone is interested.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We are a family of five three kids 10, 8, and 8. We got a beautiful one bedroom condo on the main floor overlooking the beach. It even had its own patio! My boys 10, and 8 slept on the pull out sofa and they brought in a single roll away bed for my 8 year old daughter. The room is huge and there was plenty of space. The room had its own kitchen and HUGE table. We met up with my brother and his wife and they also stayed there. There was plenty of room to play games and have fun at night all in our room. The swimming pool was awesome. It was warm once you got into it. I would not have wanted it heated as it was hot there and the pool was the perfect temp. Plenty of chairs over looking the pool and you could even get drinks! The beach was really wonderful. Perfect for kids. Lots of sand and you did not have to worry about tides or them getting pulled under. You could go out a long ways and it was not very deep. For kids this is the best place. We walked the beach a lot and this beach was by far the best. It was really the perfect place for a family. There were no rowdy spring break crowd. The security was always around protecting which kept the people selling stuff and rowdy parties off the beach. Always plenty of chairs by the beach. The staff was very accomadting and willing to help you with what ever you needed. We had the included breakfast buffet and it was really good. They changed it a little bit every day and it was always good. We ate out for dinner most the time. The hotel had very good recommendations to places to eat. We also went to walmart. Kind of a scary bus ride. We did not speak much spanish though. Also, an important airport tip: We paid for round trip transportation from ourhotel before coming to Mexico. After traveling for 14 hours to get there with three small kids after you check through costumes you will be greeted with professional looking peolple that have there own service desks and everything right before you get out of the airport. Several of these people are standing at the exit acting like they were there to direct you to your transportation. I made the mistake of stopping and saying what the name of the service was that we were taking. The person motioned us to the service desk acting like that was them. After 30 minutes of these people telling us about tours we finally figured out it was not even our transportation service. I had to be rude and just leave. Once out of the airport I found our transportation and we were on our way. But be prepared. What ever you do don't let them fool you into thinking they are helping.

The hotel was very nice. I can not complain. We toured a few of the fancier hotels there and the Ambiance was nicer in many ways. Very relaxing, comfortable, safe and the best beach.
