OMG! Arrived, room not ready...no big deal, well eat! The restaurant and pool area immediately impressed me. Free food...ok..breathtaking view...Wow! The first 15 were great ones. We travelled, all 9 of us in 4 different rooms for a bachelor party.
After eating the gross food in the nice restaurant, we walked into the lobby at 3 when they said the room would be ready. From here its all downhill. There was over 100 people waiting, some on honeymoon, the hotel staff couldnt even say what the issue was, no rooms were ready and they were telling people to come back in 2 hours...
People were asking for the manager, and noone would come forth and say who the manager was. It was the most bizarre experience.
After hours of waiting we got a room in Phase 1 or 2. Im not sure which, but we didnt stay in the hotel with the lobby or the pyramid shapped. We stayed in the old ones. Got into the room, it was cleaned up ok. The sheets smelled along with the comforter and pillows. Remember this hotel you cannot lose your room key ($100), towel key ($15), or safe key ($65).! The room was just ok, the towels were super old, and very rough feeling.
People partied and made noise all night, the elevator didnt work and we carried our bags ourselfes to our room on the 5th floor.
There was coacroaches, it rained in the room, the door would not lock all the way, we lost total electricity for 3 or 4 hours, room service ordered at 1am, was delivered to our room at 530 am while we were sleeping, they walked right into the room when we didnt answer door, oh and the service when you call anywhere is awfuill...
We were supposed to have a mini fridge and didnt....just a great pool.
The food was not good at 4 or 5 resturants we ate at. The complaints go on an on. Everyone whoe worked at the bars there would not want to serve you unless you had "propina" or tip money! bring singles, lots of singles if your expecting good service.

I read a lot of reviews before going to this hotel and was slightly apprehensive but my boyfriend and I aren't snobs who were expecting top class everywhere we went. But having been there after reading the reviews (the majority negative) I think that either these people were very unlucky with their experience or were expecting royal service or something?!
We went for 10 nights so managed to see most of the hotel and its grounds - it is a very big place but take a wonder around and it isn't that daunting at all really.

Check in was fine - we arrived at about 10pm and went straight to our lovely cool room. Check out was also fine - took about 2 mins max!

We were placed in Phase 2 with an ocean view - lovely view to wake up to in the morning. The air con was a God send, it was sooo hot outside, but even on 'low' it was very cool. The maids cleaned our room everyday, although sometimes it wasn't until about 3 or 4pm, but it didn't matter too much as we were by the pool until 5 or 6pm.
The mini-bar is refilled everyday but there were 2 days where it wasn't re-filled which was disappointing - we just wanted bottles of water to take to the pool but had to buy them from the shop in the hotel ($2USD each). Only 2 days out of 10, so not the end of the world!

Lots of restaurants to choose from (buffet, a-la-carte, etc) especially because we had the 'black wristband' which means you get everything all-inclusive (I think others that paid less got less of an all-inclusive deal, limited restaurants) - I definately recommend paying more for the black wristband then you have no worries at all as to where you can eat.
Overall I would say the food is fine, not amazing but definately enjoyable. Plenty of choice. The best food was at the exclusive Mexican restaurant in the main lobby area (Pyramid) which you have to book 2 days in advance and it has a formal dress code. Very romantic setting and definately the best food we had - get the lamb rack!!

Loved the pools! They stretch around the grounds of the hotel and are gorgeous and clean. One end was more 'happening' with younger crowds (17-20ish I would say) and activities like volleyball etc, but if you prefer a quiet poolside you can walk to the other side in 2-3 mins and it is very peaceful. I just read another review that said the toilets were too far away...maybe they didn't know that 'banos' means toilets? There are plenty! The Ibiza restaurant (buffet) is probably the most central toilets so you can get to them easily from any pool.

I was very impressed by the staff, everyday we saw maintenance people sweeping the floors, cleaning the pool, re-tiling here and there...they work hard in the heat to make sure the hotel is spotless.
We got room service one when we got a late dinner at about 10pm, they state it takes 45 mins but it actually took 30 which was good.

We were on a bit of a budget so could only afford 2 nights out which we paid for at one of the little huts around the hotel (they sell activities and trips too) and they were about $50USD each, free entry (no queue) VIP (I'm not sure what this meant...bt we did get our own seats maybe that was what it was?) and best of all free drinks. Both nights we had our own waiter who would go and buy our drinks for us so we didn't even need to go to the bar. We went to Coco Bongo (def recommend) and Dady O (I heard this was great for hip hop/r'n'b but I think we went on the wrong night (Saturday) as it was all rubbish spanish pop music, not for us! No big deal though we still had fun.

As for activities, we went on the Jungle Tour and def recommend. it was $55USD, you get to drive your own little speedboat then snorkelling - so fun! (Nothing to do with a jungle!). They had poolside activities all day, every day too so if you like volleyball, aqua aerobics etc then you will be fine.

Best part for us was the pools/sunbathing areas - we got fresh clean towels everyday and had no problem finding sun-loungers with comfortable cushions (although we went mid june so it wasn't peak season, I can imagine it getting very busy at peak).

Worst part...can't really think of anything bad to be honest! I think this is mainly because we did not have ridiculous expectations and are generally positive people who don't look for the bad things. Holidays are for relaxing and chilling out, if you use that attitude you should love it :)

My wife and I went w/ two other couples, we all had a great time. This resort has something for everyone.

Pros: The rooms were nice, cool, and cleaned daily. The beach is a little rocky, but you don't have to walk far to get away from the rocks. The grounds were well manicured and clean. The check in - check out desk wasn't as bad as some would lead on, it took us a total of 15 minutes to check in and 10 to check out. The breakfast was very good and the snack bars serving hamburgers and fries were pretty good as well.

Cons: The service was okay, but be prepared to be passed up in line at the bar if a Mexican happens to walk up after you, because they will get waited on first!

The food was hit and miss for our group. We had good breakfast and lunch, but dinner wasn't good. But keep in mind we were only there for 3 nights and there were many restaurants that we didn't get to try.

We are not a difficult group to satisfy, but keep in mind you get what you pay for. Overall we had a great time and would definitely stay at the Grand Oasis again.

Dont believe all of the reviews. This place was absolutely amazing! Yes...it was big...but it was worth it! We had no problems with this hotel. Check in was great! We got there at 9 am afraid we werent going to be able to get a room until check in which is at 3 but they put us in a room right then and there. We booked our excursions with Arturo (lomas travel) he was GREAT! Very friendly and helpful. Made you feel right at home. The beaches do have rocks on them and you have to be careful when you walk on the beach but there are spots that you can swim with no problem. I kept hearing people tell me to watch out for the timeshare people but i didnt see them once our whole time staying at the hotel. I have nothing negative to say about this hotel and experience. It was wonderful. Food was GREAT! I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Originally we were booked in the Grand Oasis Playa, which catered to adults +23. Only one week prior to our departure were we notified that due to economy that the hotel was closed and that we were to be moved. No alternatives given. Even though the Playa was colsed 6 weeks prior.
We arrived early on the 16th and since rooms were not ready, (understandable) were given our bracelets and told to swim, eat etc and return for rooms. The main lobby is open air is is stiffeling hot. So we did not spend ,much time there. We traveled with a group and there were problems with all of the rooms. Besides being run down, i.e. light fixtures falling down, electrical outlets coming off the wall, AC barely working, and tubs that do not drain, the rooms were fine.
Also, a major disappointment for me was the beach. Not only was there no adaquate place to swim, it was trashed with paper plates, cups, cigarette butts, etc. And it was not cleaned at all diring our stay. That lead to the over crowding at the pools. It appeared that this hotel catered to the 16-23 crowd that either was learning how to drink to excess or was trying to prove that they could. Very hard to get to a swim up bar. Which led to the next problem of the bartenders pouring very weak drinks.
The food was very good though, very good restaurants, as I am open minded as to where I am at and understand that food is cooked differently. But we did enjoy the food. Even though the service at the restaurant was well below what you might find at a Motel 6.
Our last trip to Mexico was at the El dorado Royal so we are kinda spoiled as to service, and the trips prior to that were at the Casa Magna and the Riu. All of which vastly overshadowed this drab experience. Now take this into consideration, most folks who write bad reviews will end with "don't waste your money" or something to that...I won this trip, paid nothing, and am still writting in hopes to save someones time.
