My husband and I just returned from 5 days at the Grand Oasis. We have been to Cancun several times, staying at a different place each time. There were things I liked about the Grand, but areas where it lacked as well. First of all, we were there with a group of people and had originally booked at the Cancun Oasis. After reading the many poor reviews, I decided to upgrade to the Grand. It was the best decision I could have made. We arrived around 11:00 and checked in with no problem. Our room wasn't going to be ready until 3:00, no biggie...we left our luggage with the bell hops and headed to the pool to find our friends. The pool that is closer to Phase I of the Oasis was crowded with folks between the ages of 18 and 25 from the Oasis. It was like this every day and the pool bar was pretty crowded. Not a big problem for the first day. Everyone was having a great time. We ate at the buffet in Phase I and it was terrible. We never went back. I recommend the buffet in Phase II. The Grand's buffet is not open for lunch. Our room was ready about 4:00. We checked in at 3:00 and were told the room wasn't ready and that we should wait as it was a nice room. I guess they could have gotten us into a room at 3:00, but it wouldn't have been as nice. Once we got in our room (5331), everything was nice. The A/C worked, the hot water worked, and the room was very clean and as you may have read the bed was rock hard (my husband loved that). The rooms as the Oasis Cancun were terrible compared to what we got (very thankful for upgrading). Also, our friends were woken up by screaming kids at all hours while the Grand was very peaceful. For the most part we ate at Ibiza (the Grand's buffet). It was pretty good compared to the others. We didn't get a chance to try some of the other restaurants as our friends were not privy to the Grand. The pool and the grounds were incredible. If you go torwards the Phase II side, it is much quieter. You don't have all the yelling or uncontrollable drunks. One day a girl just passed out cold in the pool. Her friend had to carry her to room. We went to the foam party one night. As part of the Grand, you get in for free and earlier than others, so you can get a good seat/table. This was a crazy party. Don't wear nice clothes. Some girls just wore their bikinis. The beach was great. We got an excellent spot in the reserved area for the Grand guest. The water was a little rough though. As for the pro's of the resort...great staff, great beach, great pool and pool bars, clean rooms, and lots of restaurant choices. As for the cons....didn't see any entertainment staff, saw no nightly entertainment, no craft or vendor booths, no information on hotel events, gift shops not so great, pool and pool bars closed kind of early, and most of us had a few stomach issues. I've been to Cancun 4 times and this was the first time I had stomach problems. Not sure why this time, but I did get a hamburger from the beach and it wasn't cooked all the way. It was pretty bad. I would avoid the hamburgers. The chicken and hot dogs were good though. Overall it's a nice hotel, but I like some of the others I've stayed at a little more. Some of the other hotels I have been to go out of your way to ensure you have a great time. I think the Grand/Oasis may be too big. My husband really liked the Grand. He enjoyed going to where there was action in Phase I and then being able to escape at Phase II or the Grand.
