My husband and I booked this trip to take our 3 kids on their first "out of the country" vacation. I called the resort directly and made our reservations through the Get Away Program. We got a discounted rate for attending a 90 minute presentation wanting us to become members of the resort. Let me start by saying we are not hard to please people and are very laid back, however, this vacation experience is one for the books!!!
Once we arrived to check in, we were informed that the Caribe Tower was closed to guests, so our room was in the Royal Tower. We had requested an ocean view room and we did not get it. When I called down stairs to see if we could move to an ocean view, I was told we could pay $30 USD for each night if we wanted to move. We were told that we would have a room with 2 beds and a roll-a-way. (We are a family of 5) We made our way to the room and discovered that we only had 2 beds. We were told that the roll-a-way would be brought up before we were ready for bed. We had to end up calling AGAIN to get the extra bed. The maid brought the roll-a-way to the room and I was could not believe what it looked like. It reminded me of something that you would find in a homeless shelter. Please see picture!
We were also informed at check in that we would be responsible for paying for our transportation back to the airport for our trip back home. We had to pay $50 USD for that trip.
The rooms are very small and don't have an exhaust fan in the bathrooms. The entire time we were there, our bathroom was never dry, which made our room always feel damp. The shower would never stay on a constant temperature. One minute it was freezing cold and the next, you were being scalded by the hot water. That is not a joke!!!
At all of the other all inclusive resorts I have stayed at, they all had a mini-fridge in the room with bottled water and soda...The Royal Solaris does not. Basically you have a bed and a t.v.
The food at the resort is the same thing every day for breakfast...it never changed the 5 days we were there. We usually had lunch out by the pool, which was the exact same thing everyday, as well. The food was not good at all. And again, we are not picky people and our kids will eat most anything.
The hotel is very old and needs some major upgrades. At one point of our stay, they have a bucket out in front of the lobby elevators catching water pouring from the ceiling above.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking at having an enjoyable time. Please feel free to contact me if you have specific questions.
