We spent 5 days at Royal Solaris Cancun, and had a great time. The staff is super friendly, the price was great, and we love the food as well. The sea was pretty rough, but we managed to still swim there. The room was a little humid at times, but I don't think the hotel is to blame for that. And yes, like others had said, Marco Polo was the best place to eat, although the buffet was really nice too.

I have read many reviews prior to going. I am not a picky person so I did not let them sway me one way or another. The Caribe tower is where I was booked but it was closed. The ride from the airport to the hotel is quick we were dropped off at the first building that had a big sign out front that said 'Royal Solaris' we went up to the check in area no one was in site, finally a worker there told us the hotel was closed and go up to the next hotel. It ended up that the first building with the 'Royal Solaris' sign is the Caribe tower. The next hotel on the strip had a sign that said 'Club Solaris' this is the main tower and where you should go to check in. They do not let you check in at the front desk but have you walk down the hall to this area that had tables and asked you to sit there. Check in ended up being pretty quick, they did not do any time share presentations since I wrote part times sales for me and my husband as a student. We arrived at 11:00 and so the room was not ready but it only took 30 mins before it was ready while we waited they showed us a map of the resort and where things were and the times they were open.

I had a lagoon view room. I was happy with my view of the lagoon. We watched the sunset from our room a few nights it was really neat going down by the lagoon. The room was nice and house keeping did a good job. They only left us towel animals on our last day, maybe they do that more when kids stay in the room. Only if the window was open was it noisy with the cars traveling the strip. The Halls were really noisy at night, kids running up and down the halls and the elevator dinging all the time and drunk people.

The food tasted good but I ened up getting really sick (the runs and puking) from something there. After a few days I got better and gave the buffet another try. Got sick again.

Entertainment staff did a good job outside. I did not like the night shows they had because they were alot of singing.

XX was on tap and always cold. Other drinks they made were really good. Beach/water area had some large rocks that made it dangerous but if you walk down to the right which is in front of the Caribe tower there is no rocks and good safe swimming.

Cancun is a party area, if you are looking for some quite go to Rivera Maya area its worth it.

I would not go back to this hotel because I got sick and because of the drunk people and kids running or just being loud. I think my review would have been different if I stayed at the Caribe tower.

Booked into Royal Solaris from Jun 25 to 29. Reading the negative reviews prior to my departure made me apprehensive about my reservation with Royal Solaris. Therefore, I felt compelled to share my experience.

Arrived and checked in at 2pm without a fuss. I was personally greeted at the lobby by a host and guided to the check in area. The luggage was delivered to my room within 5 mins. I was expecting a room without a view or a mediocre one but was presently surprised with view of the lagoon. Although, requested for king size bed but given a room with twin double beds. IMO, a bed is a bed so didn't make a difference of the size. Beside, most of the time was spent outdoor anyway! Attached some sunset pics taken from my room.

Didn't have problems with the shower or whatsoever, everything was functioning properly. Pleasantly surprised by the efficient air condition that kept the room so cool!!!

Breakfast was served at Las Fuentes. They served everything you could want for breakfast; cereals, eggs, yoghurts, fruit juices, texmex, pancakes/waffles, bacons, hams, breads and what have you. Ok, I need a good coffee in the morning and it was a bit weak to my liking but that's pretty much my only grouse. If not happy with the coffee, take a bus to La Isla and have your favourite coffee in one of the Starbucks.

Lunch was at the Rosmarinus, located next to the actiivties pool. They served the stapled diet of meats/seafood, soups, carbos, vegetables & desserts. There were enough varieties to keep me satisfy.

Dinner was more interesting as you could choose to have buffet or dine at one of the restaurants with a nightly theme. I experienced Italian Cuisine at Restaurant Veneto, French & NY Steak night at Restaurant Marco Polo. Ok, I didn't like the main dish that I had at the Italian night but it was the question of my palette. For guests who complained about the NY Steak night, the only question begged asking was "how you had it cooked"? I enjoyed my steak medium rare and it was served perfectly cooked. The steak was tender and moist!

The services from the waiting staff were impeccable! I was never left hanging for another drinks or waiting for more than 5 mins to be served. Best of all, they were always serving with a SMILE! Guess the saving grace for me was that I'm not big on alcohol, hence no hang over from those cheap alcohol that other guests were complaining about. However, one of the waiters gladly recommended Miami Vice (sin alcohol) during dinner one night when he found out that I wasn't a drinker. It was delicioso and greedily had 3 glasses. Definitely beat having soda and agua all the time!

One thing that I had major issue was the service from the water sport desk located next to the activities pool. Bunch of arrogant people that I wouldn't touch with 10 foot pole. Therefore, I decided to give Best Day, located in the lobby, my business by booking 3 day trips with them; swim with the dolphins program (including day pass to Wet N Wild), Jungle Tour with Sunrise Marina and Snorkelling Adventure with Snorkelling Adventure. Personally, I had a lot of fun and would recommend these trips!!!

My advice to those who have reservation with Royal Solaris is the test of the pudding is in the tasting. Different folk different stroke. The hotel cannot please everyone and their level of expectations. If you are expecting Michellin 5 stars gourmet cuisine at every meal, then this place is not for you. I will suggest you try Hilton, Marriott or those resorts that charge 5 to 6 stars prices.

However, if you are happy to be served by smiling waiters and restaurants serving above average food, this is not a bad deal. Keep a healthy level of expectation but be realistic for the price you are paying.

For those guests who are making negative reviews, if you really want to experience very bad services and bad food, try the resorts in Panama. They will make Royal Solaris shine like its name!

We went with nine family members and friends, including one small child. We all wanted something easy for this trip so we booked Royal Solaris for the all inclusive food/drink and kid friendly pool. We arrived first and they told us they did not have our king size with balcony that we had reserved and paid for in advance. Being on vacation we decided to overlook this and enjoy our double bed with no balcony. However, several minutes later our friends arrived and were offered an upgrade (not free) for a king size/balcony room. We notified management immediatly by phone and again were told no rooms were available. We then explained in person at the front desk how our friends were just upgraded and after several passings of the buck, we received our room.

The new room had a balcony door that would not shut/lock and was accessible by other patrons and whomever was on the property. The smell from the shower drain permeated into the room and smelled of sewage. We shut the door to deal with this odor. However, when showering the drain would overflow onto the floor.

All inclusive was no bargain considering the food was same in every restaraunt in the hotel and at every meal. Breakfast was a reconfiguration of dinner the night before. I guess I could have drank my money's worth in the one brand of beer and cheap liquors they offered. In addition to the horrible food and bad alcohol, three out of the nine of us broke out in a rash. I had to receive a steroid shot when I returned home. Been to Cancun before and I know there are way better places to book.

My wife and I traved to the Royal Solaris in October of 2008. This was our second trip to Cancun and we did not want to spend a great deal of money this time around becuse we planned on taking sevral tours. This is a good hotel to use as a base if you plan on seeing the true Mexico (Coba, Tulum, SCUBA, fishing ect.).
When we arrived we found check in speedy and the staff pleasent to work with. It is true what you read about ocean view vs. lagoon view rooms (rooms are small). If you want an ocean view be prepaied to pay extra upon arrival. If you want one with a balcony be prepaired to pay even more. We did take the optional vacation presentation (3hrs. long) but we recived $60.00 US to spend at the hotel or tours. This property is small to medium sized in comparison to some of the mega resorts. We found the hotel to be clean but run down (the staff told us that the hotel was going to be remodeled). There were several leaks in the roof during the many tropical down pours that occured during our stay. There are two pools and a childrens area.

We booked our stay as all incluseive so the most of the food was served buffet style and for the most part consisted of lots of chicken and pork with some fish and beef on select nites (don't expect it to be gormet). Lunch was usualy served poolside which was a nice change. We found that the included sit down dinners were of far superior in quality and service - well worth the wait (try the Mexican red wine, it's not that bad). The bar staff was very nice and willing to suggest different drinks or make what you requested. As in the case with most budget AI don't expect "top shelf" liquor or you will pay extra.

This hotel is at the far end of the hotel zone so it will be difficult to walk to the market or shopping malls. I recomend take the buses that run along the zone (cheap) and one even goes into the city of Cancun to Sam's Club and Walmart. Within walking distance of the hotel is El Ray Myan ruins. This is a hidden gem if you can not make it on a tour to the larger sites. The place is full of iguanas! Make a trip to Croco Cun animal park. You can walk with crocodiles and feed wild spider monkeys. It is best to take a taxi there for the bus you have to ride into the city of Cancun go to the bus station and take the bus to Playa del Carmen but you must make sure they will stop at Croco Cun.
