Just returned staying Sept 3 - 10th. We had a 2-bedroom suite with kitchen and balcony and loved it so much we became owners.. Our room was kept spotless and sheets changed daily. The staff was helpful and courteous and never overbearing. We saw them approach folks regarding presentations but never witnessed any type of harassment. The food was great and men must remember to bring long pants as 2 restaurants require business casual dress ( and I appreciated dining w/o seeing bare feet,
beer bellies and too small tube tops ). They have a buffet daily under the large palapa and lunch served poolside by the membes pool and the Bogavante Restaurant. Snacks are available until 1:00 a.m. The drinks were good though they are served in small glasses. The entertainment shows are good if you are not too critical. I did hear the hotel guests complaining about their rooms and perhaps rightly so however the suites are w/o complaint. The mini-bars are stocked daily and are w/o charge for members and owners and that includes beer and sodas. We also got robes and slippers on day of check-in. All in all, no place is perfect and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we loved it!

“Avoid this Dump!”

We just got back Sept 5 from 4 nights at this 2 star nightmare. The first night we laid towels all over the floor because it was soaked from humidity, the second day our room was never cleaned even though we left the tag on the door all day, our room service breakfast never showed up even though we put the tag out early the night before, the hotel workers besides the maid and wait staff are snobby and unhelpful. Food is HORRIBLE! Drinks are weak, water changes temperture at least 10 times during a shower, tried to charge me $50 for a $10 sheet because ink from a henna tattoo that the HOTEL provided got on it but could not produce the sheet as proof it did not come out, virtually no activities, we went to the stupid time share presentation just to avoid the $30 per night upgrade charge for an oceanview room because we could not see giving them another dime. Oh and the Solaris is not located on a swimming beach, more rocks than sand. There were 8 of us and we all hated this place and could not wait to check out! Many other guests we spoke too expressed their displeasure also. I love Cancun, the Oasis was great last time, we are going back before year end as a "do over" but will definately avoid the Solaris! There are much nicer places to stay for the same price and less. However, if you have low standards, like being treated like crap and have extra cash to throw away go for it.

“Nothing Royal about it”

Royal Solaris Cancun

I concur with a lot of the negative reviews I have read here as they all seem to mention the very same things we found to be on the negative side with this hotel. We just got back Aug. 31st,

First and foremost the Food was wretched. I did not think it was possible to screw up a pancake but there you go. Eating out was EXTEMELY expensive as was most everything in Cancun. Still we opted for eating elsewhere despite the cost.

The shower went fom scalding to freezing in a matter of seconds and was virtually impossible to regulate, Needless to say it took awhile to take a shower.

The time share folks were sneaky in that they jump you as soon as you walk in under the guise of helping to Check you in, When we asked if they were a time share they said no, they were just showing us how we could book a vacation directly through them and save money etc. Trust me it was in fact a time share. We ended up saying no to 4 different people brfore we could escape.

The rooms were clean and the swim up bar was great! I did not like that people would put towels on their chairs early in the morning & not use them till the afternoon.

Over all Cancun is highly commercialized and very expensive. We will not go back.

Stayed at the RS last two weeks in August with my wife.daughter and her friend, we have no complaints the staff were excellent with service and were always pleasant with us all. The entertainment staff made our holiday with all the games etc played during our fortnight. we found the food in all resteraunts very good no queue for sunbeds unlike the CPC!! No problems with our timeshare friends in fact they didnt ask us for the tour any time in the fortnight we were there. My daughter and her friend went to the clubs with the reps and were looked after very well every night. We had a nice room in the Caribe tower overlooking the sea air con, shower etc all worked fine. Met some lovely people from both the US and Canada and also the occasionla one or two from the UK!! Thankyou RS for a great holiday!! See you next year hopefully!!

We booked a last minute trip to Cancun and chose the Royal Solaris as one of only three choices still available through Apple Vacations. Of course, a trip to the beach is always a treat. That said, some destinations are better than others.

Pros: Great AC in our room. Heard about others having problems, but ours was great. Great water pressure in the shower. Mexican buffet overlooking the ocean was a highlight. Close to the airport so shuttle time was minimal. Staff was very helpful.

Cons: The time share sales got very old, very fast. We were greeted by an attentive gentleman who was most anxious that we have a lovely stay. When I mentioned that we would like a room with a view of the ocean, he was most accomodating. All we had to do was sit with one of the managers for 90 minutes, and the ocean view was ours. We decided to forego the session and paid $30/night for our ocean view room with a balcony (available on the 7th floor only). Best decision of our trip. However, they continued to "invite" us to learn more about the timeshare options at every opportunity. Ad nauseum. We, too, suffered the scalding hot one minute, freezing cold the next minute shower syndrome that others have suffered. Food, for the most part was adequate. Hamburgers, nachos and breakfast were the best. Shoes left by the pool for a quick walk on the beach were stolen on the last day of our trip.

Bottom line: Not awful, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel, nor would I stay there again. Went for a quick trip to the Cancun area last year in mid July and stayed at the Grand Xcaret. That hotel gets a simlar rating, is similarly priced but is MUCH superior.
