As the rooms they present look nice, we talked to some of the time share owners who wish they could get out of the deal they purchased. The rooms showed were not what you will always get unless you continue to upgrade and buy more from this scam. We spent over 4 hrs as they would not accept no for an answer. we were sent to the guy that was just below the owner, then the guy that was the best friend of the owner, and then another guy who was the number 2 guy and on and on. When we finally convinced them we were not goiung to buy anything they set us free with us having to make our own transportation back.
They started this sham at $49,900, went down to $32,900 and actually went as low as $6000.

Arrived at the airport to find our pre-booked transport had not arrived, after an 11 hour flight was not happy. Arrived at the resort to find our previous telephoned and e mailed requested regarding the room had been ignored and our room was not as requested. However, the reception guy Edgar was really helpful and advised that we had a new room and showed it us first before we accepted it. The room was nice and very clean apart from no balcony which they offered to sort out for us the next day.

The next day we were passed to the surly guest relation manager who advised she had a room available facing the lagoon with balcony - we went to view it but it was not very nice at all and was in desperate need of a refurb so we agreed to stay put, in the newer rooms facing the road.

The food at this resort is not up to standard..dont expect a full dressed lobster in their lobster dinner package you get a small piece of tail. We even ate out some nights as sometimes the buffet was very poor - lunches seem to be better than dinners. I found the food at the sister hotel Royal a little better but if you are really into 4-5 star dining you will be disappointed.

The resort itself is really letting itself down by promoting the resorts and flying holidaymakers looking for a cheap break who will do their timeshare tour and believe me some are characters to say the least and were quite disruptive at night. We bought into a different holiday style when we invested in vacation resorts.

Although we had a great holiday and some of the staff were were really great I was disappointed with the resort it just didnt come up to expectations.

On another note beware of the timeshare...be prepared to site through 5 hours of BS...they dont take NO for an answer and became quite rude.....in the end I literally said no more got up and walked out. There is a constant stream of people walking around both the Lagoon and the Royal all day and it is a bit annoying.

Management response from SLagoon, Manager
(Management representative)

Dear Guest, thank you for your reviews. We are very ashamed for all that happened during your stay at Sunset Lagoon. The hotel has had important changes, for example; recently we hire an international Executive Chef and now we offer a better menu and the food improve too much. We still have a great staff that provides to all our guests an excellent service. For this reason we hope to see you soon in this your home away from home. Best regards.

We got taken in by their timeshare spiel. It was our stupid mistake, and we should have known better. We're still paying down the contract as it was too much of a hassle to get out of it. They're very persuasive and persistent. In the end, we'll be out the price of a nicely equipped, new S40 Volvo! Don't let your memory of Cancun be marred by a dumb mistake!

Check-in was quick and easy. Gave up credit card and got bracelets. Drinks were ordered for us while we sat down with the "Here's what's included" Lady. All-inclusive package explained to our satisfaction in about 5 minutes. Offered a time-share presentation. Politely declined. Offered to us again with about $4-500.00 in freebies. Politely declined. No hard hassle.

Signed up for free snorkel tour. Signed up for horseback ride. Snorkeling very very very bad. Although we had lots of fun with the little speed boats.

Horseback riding was excellent. Quality mounts with great guides. Got to check out some horse royalty at the hacienda. The lunch provided was pretty good. Got to gallop around, helmets optional, didn't have to plod along single file. Highly recommended!

Room given to us was better than what we exchanged for .Bld. 1 bottom floor, great view, very clean, comfortable, large showers, hot water, great water pressure. Mini bar in room. No additional charge. Left note to stock with 12 pak of beer daily. No problem.

Staff friendly, housekeeping excellent, resort grounds clean and manicured, room service included for no extra fee, buffet decent, something for everyone, Italian restaurant very good, lobster dinner not so very good at same restaurant.

Hammocks to lounge in. Plenty of lawn chairs with shade and pads. Nice jacuzzi right up next to lagoon by snack bar. Snack bar has good food, great view.

Pool is a little small. split in 2 sections. Slide to lower level with water volleyball. Upper portion has a swim up bar (with way to many children on their floaties next to mommy and daddy) Sometimes it was really hard to get to the bar. Pool closes at 9:00 pm but the pool bar closes at 4:00. Makes no sense to me.

Free boat ride to sister resort. Leaves about every 20-30 minutes until 4:00. Otherwise free shuttle bus on the hour until 9PM. Royal Sunset pretty happening. Nice beach area. A few vendors. People drinking 2 liter bottles of beer from beer bongs. Way Cool. Didn't have to order drinks from Jauquin(best waiter). He just brought a round every 20 minutes or so. Didn't eat there, but heard the food is better.

We have 3 timeshares and travel alot so we're kinda biased and rate resorts a little harder than we used too. We could probably nit pick about some little minor things but nothing major. We really loved our stay here.

  • Liked — BIg comfortable townhouse, great view, close to everything
  • Disliked — pool bar closed to early, kinda small, children allowed in bar area in pool
