I wish I could rate this resort 4.5 instead of a full 5.
We have extensive travel experience with all-inclusives and this was by far the best we've experienced. We were not disappointed.
What we loved:
The property is absolutely gorgeous, with maximized views of both the sea and lagoon. Kudos to the designers. There is so much beautiful stone everywhere you look, and you can even purchase the white onyx candle holders in the giftshop. The interior decor is lovely, with interesting art displayed unobtrusively. The location is great, so we were able to walk to shopping and for lunch at Carlos and Charlies one day. (We never miss a chance for Carlos and Charlies.)
The service was beyond compare. Top notch, proper and appropriate. We were known by name and table preferences. We never lacked anything. If one washcloth was used, or one item was taken from the mini bar, it was replaced by the time we returned to the room, even if we were only out for an hour. Our room was cleaned literally every time we left it. Our 5th floor Butler, Juan, was AMAZING.
There were always chairs at the pool and the pristine beach, and within 30 seconds of arriving, we were provided with a fresh beach towel and our choice of drinks and snacks. There was even a lady bringing around cold scented towels on a silver tray ever so often.
The Jungle tour was awesome. Well worth the three hours. They provided us with brand new snorkels that we were able to keep as a memento.
The Dolphin swim at Wet and Wild was wonderful. Tip: transfer to the park is included, but you have to pay for transportation back when you're ready to leave the park. The lot is filled with Taxis that will take you back for US$20. Expensive, yes, but quick and easy.
THE FOOD
Okay, this is a very subjective matter, and I want to be objective about it, to the extent possible. I'm not going to comment on whether or not we particularly "liked" certain dishes, because I don't think that's fair to an international resort. You can't order a dish in Mexico and expect it to taste like it does in America. That doens't mean the quality is poor or the chef is unskilled.
We never had a single thing that wasn't cooked properly or freshly prepared. The ingredients were always high quality. Fresh fruits were abundant.
At breakfast, there was always a juice of the day (a mixture of freshly squeezed juices) in addition to freshly squeezed citrus juices and carrot juice. There was also a huge selection of fresh breads and pastries. The coffee is on the weak side, but you only need ask for a fresh cappuccino. There is also a wide selection of fine teas readily available.
If you are NOT a raw sushi eater, you need to make that known the moment you are seated at the Oriental restaurant. They bring out a large platter of beautiful fresh raw items without asking you. We don't eat sushi, so we felt bad seeing it go to waste. They can't re-serve it once it has been left on your table.
The wine list was very adequate, and we also enjoyed a glass of champagne in the lobby nearly every night prior to dinner. Heaven! We had mixed drinks only once or twice, and they were very good.
Deserts leaned heavily towards French persuasion, even those considered Italian or American.
THE BEACH
Beautiful sand and water, semi-private and accommodating service. Most days the water was too rough for swimming, but not everyday. We're used to the serene waters of Jamaica and Palm Beach in Aruba. Cancun has WAVES. During our stay it was not unusual to see six-footers throughout the day. Caution: topless sunbathing and g-string swimsuits are allowed, so if this offends you, bring your blinders.
My only small complaints:
Our room thermostat was governed not to go below 22 Celcius (it would go up, but not down any more). That is not cool enough for our taste. We possibly could have asked the butler to "unlock" it so it could go lower, but we didn't bother.
The housekeeping staff was very, very diligent and discreet. However, I am insanely anal about cleanliness. The two bedside rugs had some prominent dirt stains on them. I peeked into a couple of rooms being cleaned, and saw that the rugs (jute with cotton borders) were being swept off with a nylon broom. That's not enough in my opinion. Also, our closet had a few stray hairs in the bottom, as if it didn't get swept out before our stay.
Some of the bed linens had a worn appearance, to the point of being noticeable. They should have been replaced before now. The bottom sheet was nowhere near top quality. It was somewhat scratchy.
Terrycloth slippers are provided, but during turn down service they would slide one slipper inside the other, resulting in one slipper getting dirty inside. I resorted to hiding my slippers so they couldn't do that. (See, I told you I'm anal.)
All in all, we surely got our money's worth, and had a fabulous 10 year anniversary at Le Blanc. If we return to Cancun we will definitely stay there again!! LOVED IT.
