OK, so if you have read the reviews you will know that there is no swimmable beach at the front of the hotel. Big deal, takes 1 minute to walk to where you can swim, or jump on the bys for $0.70 and go to plenty of beautiful beaches.
The location was perfect if you are a socail butterfly, it is in the thick of all the action.
We were in the new part of the building so our room was spectacular, everything was new, had an oceanview and housekeeping did an excellent job. We did hear though that the older rooms werent so nice. But to be honest, I didnt go to Mexico to hang out in my room.
The breakfasts were pretty good, fresh omlettes, fruit, muffins etc and pretty good. Lunch as fairly smilar everyday, hamburgers, fries, and also some mexican dishes. Dinner was appalling. Buffet stlye, most things had seafood so I didnt go there, last thing I waned was to get sick......and not a lot of variety over the week. BUT there is a bonus, you get a dine-around package, which means you get vouchers to eat at lovely restaurants, such as Carlos and Charies ( VERY very fn and entertaining, great service and food), Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gump's, etc the list is endless. And there is a Mexican restaurant next door that you can eat (and drink) as much as you like, and you can go there twice in the week. This package made up for the food being average.
Also, you can eat as much as you want of the room servce menu, 24/7, which has more variety than buffet. SO you just have to be picky and be orgnised.

Staff are very friendly, a little slow in the bars but throw them some tips and it helps.

Overall I loved staying here, location was perfect and the rooms were great...... I would think the young ones would like this maybe more than the older types that want a quiter, relaxing type of holiday. I would do t again in a nanosecond!!

I was a single traveller....
ill start with the good things about the place...
-location was in the party zone and close enough to the local bus for downtown....
-servers in buffet restaurant were willing to give me cheaper ways to travel to isla mujeures and playa de carmen....(with the locals)
-my room was cleaned every day
-food was decent and basic mexican buffet food...kinda have to know the food to order it from the chef at the buffet...
Now for the bad........
everywhere you went you had to pay in american dollars otherwise you would get ripped off.....get american dollars.....pesos are nothing.....!
-if you wanted any service at the hotel you had to tip....if they werent happy with your tip they curse at you in spanish as they walk away.....happend daily at the bar....
-had to sign for every single drink you ordered.....(dont add tip in bill you sign !pay cash for your tip and write zero for total and tip....saw some guy get screwed when he was checking out...owed 600 pesos in tips..which they filled in for him...)
-clubs are very close....and close at 5am....if you want to sleep and dont party ..this is not the hotel for you. plus when the bar closes there are drunk ppl yelling and screaming in the hallways.......at all hours.....
-clubs cost a fortune to get into(between 60-90 american$$) were overcrowed and smelt like urine and had vomit all over the walls, and there was no where to sit, 400+ ppl in bar with one exit...and ppl were openly having sex in random places....had to wait half hour for drink even though you had unlimited drink braclete you were only allowed one drink at a time...
-STAY AWAY FROM THE FLEA MARKETS....nothing cheap about them....every store tries to drag you in and offer you special deal....was a joke........
-the day trips also cost a fortune to go on...and the value is horrible.....i paid 600 pesos for the mayan ruins....was a joke.....ruins had nothing but vendors trying to rip you off...was incredibly hot....no shade anywhere....food was buffet and made me sick.....as well as others....waste time...go there on your own......
-dolphin tour was horrible....paid 125 american and had a whole 7 min with the dolphin and had to pay 60 american to get my pics because you werent allowed a camera.....
if you have money and love to tip...this is the place for you.....
i would say its very commerical and the ppl seem to have lost their culture .......everything is over priced and had some tags on the back that read "made in china"

I was travelling to Cancun on business (so my needs were minimal) and I work for a nonprofit (so, I'm used to budget accommodations). Despite my very modest expectations, however, the NH Krystal still managed to be a profound disappointment.

Here are a few highlights:
* Lost my reservation and insisted on rebooking me at a higher rate even after I gave them printout of the confirmation email they had sent me.
* My room was small, dark and in a building that seemed all but abandoned.
* Although the hotel has a lovely pool area, it was impossible to enjoy it because of (1) the exceedingly loud rap and salsa music that was being blasted through poolside speakers almost constantly; and (2) the nonstop noise of jackhammers, drills and powersaws from the construction site in the middle of the hotel.
* This was particularly regrettable since, even though it sits on a world famous beach, this hotel has no beach access at all. To be clear--you cannot get onto any beach from the NH Krystal.
* Sleeping also proved tricky because of the aforementioned construction noise.
* It was difficult to enter or leave the hotel without being heavily pressured to eat in one of the pricey theme restaurants attached to it.
* Although my original booking had included meals for two people in the price, my wife (who arrived on my last night) was charged nearly $20 for sharing the breakfast buffet with me.

In the end, the dozen people I was meeting with all agreed to cut our meeting short by a day in order to limit our stay in this miserable hotel.

Ok, I know alot of people had very negative things to say about the NH, but my experience was very different. I stayed at the new tower, had a nice room with a great view. My experience was great unlike all the others. Yes, there was so frustrating moments, and alot of stuff was damaged by the storm, but they are in the process of rebuilding. A few amenities weren't there but they made up by giving coupons to other restaurants, the food wasn't great, at first the service sucked. But it got better once you got to know the staff. We were all inclusive and overall had a great time. They need more restaurants to have a selection to choose from. Give it time and I am sure it would be great again. They are planning to redo the beach. The nightly entertainment on the strip was great and I enyoyed the nightlife. We made frends wih some of the staff and they were very helpful. Alot of people didn't know that they was a menu that you ould choose from and the food from the menu was good. We made the best of it since we found it to be what we wanted. and the location was great. MY room was always clean and nothing was stolen, I left my camera and jewellery and nothing was taken. And yes I had the nosy room for the frist 2 nights but they switch me to a room where there was no noise and was able to relax, and realy enjoyed the rain forest shower.

Please bear in mind is what you make of the resort and dont keep looking for negative vibes. It was our first time and inspite of all the negativity we found a lot of good things to do and enjoy our stay. The kids was a bit noisy but we were there only for part of the spring break and they didn't bother us, they were respetul there was no nudity and the kids behave themselves.

Overall my stay was enjoyable and we enjoyed ourselves.

I am not sure why so many people had bad reviews for here. This was my first time travelling and I thought this place was wonderful. Yes there can be some bugs with things like rooms service being busy and yes we had trouble getting a coffee pot as well but over all everyone I was with had a great time. We did go during spring break and yes the first few days it was hard to get a drink at night at the main bar as all the students were there but that is not the hotels fault. At times the students would try to place there orders ahead of other but the staff knew who were next and kept it in order. During the day the out side bars were open so it was so much easier to get your drinks. We sampled different drinks and they were all great. I know some are upset about no shade and no beach but we found a little section just to the right down by water where there was sand and shade. We found the section the second day and spent each day there. I agree there was no beach but there was some in this area and just a bit up you could lay on the sand and enjoy the water. The further you walked the more sand and beach you had. I don't understand why people are complaining about no beach ...again this is not the hotels fault its nature that took it away and I am sure if they could bring it back they would. You will find because of the hurracaine there are many places that lost there beaches but what can you do .....no one can push the water back to make the beach again. The food was great and the service both bar and dinning room were great for us. We were all inclusive and did not have to tip all the time. There was no trouble getting service because we were all inclusive. I felt as though they treated us the same as with paying customers. As for the beach towels we did not have to pay for them when we did not bring them back or when we got new ones. There is a place to dine for dinner at the hotel and they always had food from 630 am until 1100 pm. Yes we did eat out side twice during our stay but it was nice to get to enjoy the fresh air. As for noise we did not get disturb from our sleep at all. Our rooms were connected for our group and both left the patio doors open at night without any problems. The pools were clean and every morning we looked down from the balcony and you could see them cleaning it. Over all my trip was fantastic and yes I would go hear again :-)
