Visited Cancun and the NH Krystal for one day and night while spending the week on Isla Mujeres. We booked the NH Krystal based on its location to the clubs and shops. At first we were impressed with the hotel as we entered the lobby and were greeted by reception staff. However, upon closer inspection, mainly on the floor levels and in the actual rooms, it became apparent this was an old hotel and it was showing. The first room they sent us to was a disaster as it was under a mild renovation. Once that error was cleared up and we were assigned to another room we were pleased with the ocean views and roominess. But again, the furniture and finishes were showing their age. However, based on our rate for the room and in consideration of it being a beach hotel, it was still a fair bargain.

It was not until we headed down to the pool that we realized there was no beach. Additionally, the surf in this area was too rough for swimming, so we resigned to lounging by the pool. The pool was small but clean. There is no swim-up bar, but they do have a centrally located tiki bar. The drinks were ok, but not quite good. With only a limited pool area we quickly became bored and decided to head down the street for a bite to eat. This is when we realized that what was once likely a very picturesque barrier island was now nothing more than Mexico's version of Daytona Beach. Too much concrete and asphalt. Too many shops, bars, clubs and hotels. Too many vendors harassing you as you walk by. And not nearly enough Mexican or island authenticity to distinguish this destination from any other tourist trap.

While we had originally planned to stay the night and enjoy the notorious Cancun nightlife, we quickly lost interest and checked out by mid-afternoon. We headed back to Isla Mujeres for all things Cancun was missing.

If the NH Krystal had been located on another beach or coastal area, it would have been a fair bargain.

If you are going to Cancun to walk around and enjoy what Cancun has to offer this is a definite plus!! On the other hand if you are looking to stay at a hotel and do the beach thing the entire time this is not great at all. It is very close to all the night life, and good restaurants in the area. I am a 22 year old male, I went there alone, made friends and enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The rooms were good, yes they could use a little bit of paint and this and that but you get what you pay for!! Go to NH and enjoy Cancun. Would definitely stay there again!

We just got back from Cancun April 28th. We did not have any problems at all. The staff was very polite and helpful, also the maid service. We did not tip to get good service. In fact we didn't leave the maid anything until the day we left. She left clean towels every day. We also had bottles of water in the bathroom replaced everyday. The servi-bar was not included in the all inclusive, but the bottles of water in the bathroom were included. We had the all inclusive. We stayed in the new tower on the 3rd floor. Yes the beach was gone--but it was also gone from about 6 other hotels also. All you had to do was walk about a block or two and you could get to the beach. We walked at least 2 miles down the beach and none of the hotels had a good beach. We had an oceanview room which was fabulous. The food was really good also. There was a breakfast buffet each morning. Typical eggs, dry cereals, pastries, fruits, fried potatoes, meats, Mexican dishes, at least 4 fruit drinks etc. For lunches you could order from a menu--There were salads, burgers, pizza, shrimp, club sandwiches etc. For Dinner--they had a grill outside which you could choose as much as you wanted--New York strip steaks, rib eye steaks, chicken, 4 different kabobs-shrimp, chicken, steak or octopus. I tried them all and they were very good. you also got salad, dessert, rolls and baked potato. You can also order off the lunch menu or even order room service with the all inclusive. They also have the dine out program--which you can use 1 or 2 nights depending on how long you stay. We were they for 5 days. The location was great--one block down and there was shopping and restaurants and of course the clubs. We didn’t hear anything from the clubs while we were there and I am a very light sleeper. Of course if anyone stayed there during spring break--it would be totally different. We never had a problem with hot water. There was still light construction going on--mainly repairs. The pool was very clean. There were people constantly cleaning up-washing windows, rearranging the lounge chairs. Not once did we have timeshare people come up to us. In the new tower there are only ocean view rooms--none of the rooms face the street. We would definately go back again.

So much Negativity, it's really not that bad. I think those of you who had a negative experience bother to write on Trip Advisor, and those people who had a good experience just carry on with life and don't think about writing about it.

Ok, so you will know that there is no swimmable beach at the front of the hotel. Big deal, takes 1 minute to walk to where you can swim, or jump on the bus for $0.70 and go to plenty of beautiful beaches.
The location was perfect if you are a social butterfly, if not you can hang around the pool drink and enjoy the sun or walk down the beach and find a volleyball game. We were in the new building, our room/view was spectacular and housekeeping was excellent everyday our rooms were clean. But to be honest, I didn't go to Mexico to hang out in my room. Outside staff always were walking around asking if you needed something to drink or eat ~ the pools were clean, and yes I actually saw them being cleaned ~ If I didn’t mention we were at the hotel during spring break. IT'S BUSIEST TIME. I saw the hotel manager walking around on a number of occasions smiling at and nodding at customers.

Breakfasts were fine, fresh omelettes, fruit, muffins, toast, pancakes, yogurts, oatmeal, etc ~ I mean really, what are people expecting for breakfasts ~ Champagne and caviar?

Lunch as nice, everyday my husband and I eat fish and salad, all fresh ~ also had chicken dishes, rice, salads, deserts, hamburgers, fries and also some Mexican dishes everything was always fresh ~ Least we thought so. Better than the sandwich I have everyday at work.

Dinner was buffet style, we only ate there twice and again it was fine, fresh and hot, again I don't know what people are expecting. There was the dine-around package, which means you get vouchers to eat at lovely restaurants, such as Carlos and Charies, Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gump's, etc the list is endless. And there is a Mexican restaurant next door that you can eat (and drink) it was really good.

We found the hotel staff to be very friendly, a little slow at the inside bars ~ but a nice smile and saying hello goes a long way ~ we never tipped and we received the good quality.

We hung out at the hotel for the first four days of our weeks stay and it was fine, HOT. Our only regret is that we didn't ring running shoes to work out at the gym.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here, we thought it was a good value for what we paid, $1105 tx in, direct from Victoria. Location was So I don't know what all the fuss it about ~ I was full of anxiety ready these reviews before I went, once we arrived and when the week was over, I asked my husband, what the heck is all the fuss about? Thousands of people go through this hotel ~ only a few hundred have written bad reviews ~ which makes the other thousands happy customers.

When we arrived, our room was in a newly renovated area right next to the Disco next door. The music shook the walls until 4:00am. Terrible!! We asked to move and they did move us to the main building which was better.

The next day we had to attend a mandatory time share presentation and we were introduced to Rafael Septien former Dallas Cowboy player from the 1978 Super Bowl team. He presented the timeshare presentation as an investment opportunity not to miss. Everything he said regarding rental history with their preferred brokers was a gross misrepresentation of facts. We were suckered in and are now left with a timeshare that has never been rented. Do Not Fall for This!!

The hotel was under construction in many area's which was annoying. We found the bartenders to be extremely helpful/responsive inside the resort. Outside, service was slow. We went in early June which was Graduation Week, so the resort was full of 18-20 year olds. I do not suggest you take a family here during this time. They are loud and offensive.

This is by no means a 5 star resort. In fact it struggles to be a 2 star! Pay a little more and go down the pennisula!! Beware the Timeshare Scam!!
