My boyfriend and I stayed at the Omni from Feb 25 thru Mar 3, '04. I used this website to make the decision on where to stay this year (we spent the same week in Cancun last year at the Gran Caribe Real which was sold so we decided to try somewhere else) so I feel a need to post a review. The hotel was pretty much what I expected from reading the posted reviews. The food was excellent (we went AI) and the service was better. The staff is very good and very pleasant (especially Meriam by the pool:). The beach and grounds are beautiful and very well kept, but overall the hotel itself is a little shabby. Our room (on the lagoon side) was disappointing. While it was clean, the spread and lamps had seen better days and the bathroom marble and tub were stained and yucky, the mirrors were pitted, etc. etc. I don't care what anyone says, your room is important even if you don't spend much time in it.
After all you paid for it (nearly $300.00pp more than last year). I do have just one question for those of you who have stayed at the Omni and posted a review - WHY DIDN'T ANYONE MENTION THE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT DIRECTLY ACCROSS THE STREET FROM THE HOTEL?! For the first two days of our stay the wind was blowing off the Lagoon thru the sewage treatment plant and directly into the hotel. What a stink! We came out of dinner at DaVinci that first night and I nearly tossed the cookie Id had for dessert! Fortunately, the wind changed late the next day and things got better but you still got a whiff every once in a while, it wasn't pleasant and I found it very upsetting. Overall the Omni is a nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay even though we would not stay here again.
We also had some issues with the weather (really windy every day) which upset our scuba diving schedule and made it impossible to swim in the ocean and we spent a lot of time waiting around for people to pick us up but that is mexican time and we were on vacation and you can't control these things. Again, overall not bad but could have been better.
