Feb 22, 2009 | Trip type: Family

My family and I stayed at the Omni during the week of Feb 14-21st, 2009. There are many positive notes and some negative.

On the bright side:
The rooms were very nice and the balcony was fabulous! We had a view of both the ocean and the lagoon, even though we only paid for the lagoon view.
The room service was incredible! It was free and was delivered fast with many choices.
The food overall was good; but I HIGHLY recommend the "Da Vinci" a la carte restaurant; it was the best i've ever been to down south.
The service was impeccable! The waiters were extremely friendly and the staff were always smiling and accomodating.
The pools and the many bars were great! Especially since there was no beach to relax on.

The minuses:
The lack of beach. There was NOT one place to be able to enter the ocean since there were so many rocks. There is also a huge lack of sand, therefore you can't really put down your towel anywhere. If you want a beach/ocean vacation, this is NOT the place to go.
The lack of a disco or fun bar. I am not one to party much, but I would have liked a better place to have some drinks at night or a place to dance. There is none of that there.
The noise. The Oasis Cancun is right next to the Omni and that is where Girls Gone Wild has been filmed. If you can imagine, there are crazy college kids partying all day and night and you can hear it all.
The buffet. It was a bit repetitive, even though they have a different theme every night. A Spanish night, Carribean, Mexican, Cajun, etc all had very similar foods...

In general, I highly recommend this place if you aren't there to party and you don't mind not swimming in the ocean. Everything else was great!

We stayed here on the last night of our trip. It was a real shocker coming to this hotel after staying at Secrets Silversands an all inclusive adult only resort located south of Cancun. We Pricelined a hotel for our last night and ended up with the Omni, what a mistake that was, should have never bidded in the resort level, we got the Hilton for less on Priceline last time we came here and were much happier. Please keep in mind we only stayed here for the room and did not have an all-inclusive plan here so I cannot comment on the food and drinks. Upon arrival we walked into a small-congested lobby that reminded me of a Greyhound bus terminal. This hotel should not be able to claim 5 stars. IT IS 3 STARS AT BEST !!!!!! The room was okay but not 5 star, not even close. The bad thing is that you hear everybody’s doors slamming real loud when they leave or enter their room, even at night. The beach is one of the worst in all of Cancun. The hot tub was just ridiculous, full of kids peeing in it. I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to a friend (maybe as a cruel joke). This hotel looks like you stepped back in the 80’s, in big need of remodel. Spend a little extra and stay somewhere nicer.

Stayed here for 1 week in early feb on a pricleine rate of $110 inc tax. Upon arrival the front desk staff were not overly friendly, and simply got on with the job. We asked about an ocean view room, or upgrading to all incusive (for $99 per person per night ) and they all seemed to be too much hassle for the girl on the desk so we didnt bother, That is the only negative thing i will say about Omni. From that point on it was fantastic.

The rooms are spotlessly clean, and the cleaning staff are super friendly. The waiters are always cheery and chatty. Juan and Donat at the poolside entertainment were great fun. And always going around talking to guests and putting a smile on everyones face. They offer a nightly outing to a local club (for $45 all you can drink, which includes 1 way bus) and bring you to the best spots on the happening nights. Well worth it as you bypass the queue and get VIP table service.

As i said we did not take the all inclusive, however we did negotiate with the time share people and got ourselves $350 (initially offered $200 but declined) food and beverage credit which we spent on drinks and food at the pool throughout the day. These are charged to your room and deducted from the bill upon checkout (tips not included). The time share is a hard sell but they were polite and we simply declined. Well worth the 90 mins, plus they bought us lunch.

There is a very handy store across the street and a pharmacy. As well as a McDonalds and Subway. We ate breakfast and lunch in the hotel. Which were both really nice. But the dinner buffett was a little disappointing. So im still undecided if All inclusive is worth it. Although you can order off the menu in the restaurant as well in the evenings.

This was our first time to Mexico. We were there from Feb 8 to 15. This is a nice hotel, it was clean, friendly stuff, food is good, and drink are there, just need to ask for what you want. Like everyone said the beach is full of rocks and all 7 days there was a red flag on the beach. The entire hotel in that stretch had red flags for 7 day we where there because of the wind, it was too wavy making it dangerous for swimming. If you walk about 40 minutes south the beach is better, is sandy. We went swimming there one day, even though it was red flagged. Grand Oasis is beside OMNI, small section of their beach is with out rocks, and we went swimming there one day.

They advertised the snorkeling is part of the all-inclusive package, but it’s not. They don’t lend snorkeling equipment. Even if you had the gear there is no place to snorkel near by. Windsurfing, pedal boat, and Kayaking is included with the all-inclusive package, only thing is that is not at your Hotel. You will have to walk past four Hotels (about 20 minutes) to go windsurfing. It’s on the lagoon side witch is good, no waves the water is calm. If the beach, snorkeling, and water sports are your main priority then this is not your resort. For me these are important so I was a bit disappointed, but still I had a good time.

There are some bad review about this place, it not that bad. Yes there are time-share people trying to sell stuff, no one got to me. They send memo to the room about a free gift, don’t fall for that trap. Those are the time-share people.

Very little night entertainment, you can say none. One day they had some performers, do a show. I only catch the end of it. I didn’t miss much :-), it was not that good. No nightclub at the resort.

My conclusion: This is a good place to relax, Food, Drinks, Service and cleanness excellent. Beach, water sports, and night entertainment thumbs down.

We just got back from a gorgeous week at the Omni Cancun. There were 12 of us in our party, 6 adults 6 kids and I think I can say we all had a great time! The resort, the staff, the food- everthing was great!

My only complaints were

1.lack of swimmable beach- we knew it was rocky, but we assumed we'd still be able to swim in the beautiful crystal blue water. We had a week of wind so we couldn't even use the water toys, peddle boats etc. For that reason alone, we probably won't go back to this resort, at least with the kids.

2. lack of kids club- the Omni website cites an "Omni Sensational Kids' club which was absolutely non existent. After enquiring about it and the lack of activities for kids, we were introduced to this young lady from Senor Frogs who took the kids through a few games, (connect four, ball toss at a stand up frog) but that wasn't what I expected. I got the feeling she was trying to drum up business for Senor Frogs instead of trying to have fun with the kids. This wasn't a huge deal, as we had enough kids to amuse themselves.

3. Watch your stuff! We had 3 pairs of shoes taken! Two pairs of flip flops from the pool area and one pair of running shoes from the beach. I know this can happen anywhere, but it was really a downer for my 11 year old that had both his shoes and sandals taken! Yet, credit to the cleaning staff...my husband left his wallet with money out of the safe one day and when he returned there was a little note from the cleaning staff saying that they aren't responisble is something is missing, please put your important items in the safe, and all money was there!

So all in all, we loved the place! We weren't hounded by timesharers at all! I received the invite to the breakfast, gently declined and wasn't bothered at all again.

Did I mention the food? Wonderful! I'm currently going through a margarita withdrawl!

  • Liked — The food and the staff
  • Disliked — rocky beach, lack of kids club, stolen shoes
