I wanted to contribute my review of the Cancun Omni as all the other reviews were very helpful when planning my trip. Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Omni and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Cancun. The location was great because it was only 10 min from the airport and buses were located directly in front of the hotel to go downtown. The hotel was well cared for and clean in the public areas and the rooms. My one complaint about the room was that we did not have a balcony and seemed to have been overlooked in the renovations as the decor was a bit outdated! We met some friends and went to their room which looked exactly like the modern room photos online. Too bad this was near the last day, so it would have been silly to ask for another room. Also, we had one of the connection doors the next room over and we could hear everything they were talking about. I would recommend asking for a different room if you notice a door to the neighboring room.
Yes, the beach is small and un-swimmable, but you are still able to go for a nice walk along the beach and get your feet in the water which is hypnotizing from the colors. If you walk down to the right a bit, the Hilton has a little more beach where you can get about waist deep in the water. I would HIGHLY recommend a day trip to Isla Mujeres where you can swim in calm, clear water all day on a beautiful beach. The Pools were the perfect temp - previous reviews stated that is was too cold to get into - So refreshing after laying in the sun. Also, there is always a place to sit if you would like direct sun or shade.
The service at the hotel was wonderful. We weren't bothered by the timeshare agents, but then again we knew the cues to look for and ignored them. You will most likely get a call to your room on your 2nd day and get slips of paper under your door "to get your free coupon book and discounts if you visit the guest services desk." We ignored those as well. The food at La Paloma was good with nice variety and we really enjoyed the poolside entertainment on theme nights. Our most favorite place was the Sunset bar where the service was great - they even remembered our favorite drinks night after night. Joel was so fun and was always there to serve us our "Vitamins" (tequila shots :) he was even so excited for me when my boyfriend proposed to me! It is a very romantic bar.
When the news of the Swine Flu hit, the hotel staff was very calm and Jesus, the concierge was positive and helped calmed us when the hysterical calls from family in the US started to flood in. Only a few food service members were wearing a mask.
You MUST get all inclusive if you plan on drinking and eating most of your meals at the hotel. I cannot imagine the bill if we did not. It is so nice and lets you relax when you can just order any food or drink and not worry about the price/conversion rate.
If we return to Cancun soon, we will most definitely stay at the Omni again!
