We just returned from our 9th visit to our 'Home away from Home', becoming official Vacation Club Members in 2005. We always look forward to our annual visits and while there have been some small, noticeable changes in the decor over the years, we continue to be pleased with our experience. We love to read the positive reviews of our favorite hotel, but for those who have not had a positive experience, we would like to offer a few words.
If you happen to be a beach lover, please take your request to God because Hurricane Wilma changed the beach front forever, not just at Omni, but all along the coast line. Few properties have any beach front left! The Omni is an older hotel and humidity causes a problem everywhere in Cancun. That being said, the staff at Omni has and continues to maintain their property, from the lobby right down to the waters edge.
We ALWAYS go All-Inclusive! A chocolate Martini is $12.00US and breakfast @ Pina Colada is posted as $170.00pesos (roughly $13.00US). That's already $25.00. Now add a wonderful lunch of fresh shrimp, 4 or 5 more cocktails throughout the afternoon, a nice variety of buffet choices for dinner and another nightcap in the lounge before bed, and I'd say that we get our monies worth!
You say you don't like the buffet or menu choices? Please see Enrique @ Pina Colada or Isaac @ La Paloma restaurants and tell them what you'd like and how to prepare it - they always go out of their way to see that we are satisfied!
Please spend an afternoon at the upper-level pool and laugh at the antics of Gonzo and Donat, the DJ's, while they entertain you with 'Name That Tune' and other trivia. While you're at it, swim up to Esteban - he mixes very good drinks!
Annie, with Member Services, Head-Waiter, 'Jerry Boy', and Isaac made my husband's Birthday celebration memorable with Champagne and strawberries delivered to our room, a specially prepared Birthday Cake, and a wonderful slice of Cheesecake, both delicately drizzled in chocolate with custom Birthday wishes. Few hotels would even make the effort!
As tipping goes, here in the states if we enjoy a decent meal, we are accustomed to leaving a minimum 15% gratuity. If we give a $1.00US tip for to our server for meals and drinks, based on our previous analogy, we are only tipping $10.00US a day; $70.00US for the week. Our cruise ships want a lot more than that at the end of the week! Too many visitors want something for nothing, while Employees at the Omni are honest, hard-working and gratious!
The Staff at Omni has become like family to us and we would encourage anyone to get to know them and appreciate all they do - they never disappoint us!
