We got a great price on this hotel. The location was great and the staff was good. The hotel did not appear to be overcrowed and the food was OK as well. However our rooms 515 and 516 had a moldy smell and damp, moist.
Housekeeping did a great job in keeping the room clean and neat. The grounds were well maintained. Maybe some of the other rooms do no have the smell as ours did. The view of the beach was great from our oceanview rooms.
The hotel does not have a beach but that did not matter to us. The hotel will give you a wristband and you can enter the beach from another hotel that is right down the street. They provide chairs and their pool for your use. There is no gym at this location but you can use the gym at the Dreams which is right next door.
Well as I stated this is a hard call. Would I stay here again? If I got the great rate again yes. But this would not be my first choice when it was time to look.

“Good location, nice and relaxing”

Hyatt Regency Cancun

We stayed for 5 nights for a relaxing, slow vacation. The hotel met our every expectation and provided us with exactly what we needed. I was a little hesitant to go with this hotel based upon the reviews, but after staying here I am a little more skeptical of the negative reviews.

First of all you get what you pay for. This is not a 5 star resort by any means, nor is it a dump. It is a nice hotel that is moderately priced with a good location (next to club areas) and good amenities. We felt very satisfied with what we got in return for what we paid for. If you want 5 star stuff, then expect to pay for it and book a room at the Ritz. There is no beach, duh, every other review mentions that. If you want the beach, don't stay here and then complain about not having it!

ROOM: We booked a ocean view king on the club level. Our room had a nice balcony with a nice view of the ocean on 12th floor (14 total floors). The view doesn't really extend in either direction without leaning over the railing due to building features, but the ocean view is very nice (see pics). The bed is very comfy and not the standard mexican rock mattress. The decor is very contemporary with a flat screen TV on wall with good channel selections (5 movie channels, HBO, MAX). The bathroom is nice with a large shower and nice loofah sponge, no tub. A good hair dryer is in the room already (not the cheap wall kind, a real one) so don't bring one. Nice robes are in the closet. The room has a mini bar and ice machines are on every floor. NEGATIVES: On our last night someone was staying the room next to us and was pretty loud. The walls don't hold back noise very well, so during the peak season, you could have some issues. Another noise issue comes from the building design. All noise in the lobby or outside of a room is channeled and amplified making the usual door slam or child crying heard in the entire hotel. Most of the times it was minor in nature, unless someone has their crying kid in the lobby for 30 minutes in the morning!

CLUB LEVEL:
We spent the extra money ($20 USD/day) to book a room on the club level. For this you get a room on the upper 3 floors and access to club lounge. In the morning they serve a free continental breakfast (ham, cheese, pineapple, melon, breads, yogurt, cereal, mini quiches with amazing green chili salsa, juices, coffee, soda). It is a nice breakfast and would end up getting charged $20 at any other restaurant for the same thing, so you already break even. The breakfast is served from 7am to 1030am. Other reviews slammed the breakfast saying it was never full, people lazy etc, we had no such experience. We usually shuffled in after 10am, everything was still there, service was fine. Perhaps they were in the peak season, we were there in off-peak season. At night (6pm to 8pm), they have cocktails (beer, wine, tequila, rum) and snacks (meat, cheese, bread, mini desserts). It is nothing amazing, but a good place to start the evening before dinner and dancing. We used the club concierge to obtain dinner reservations at various local restaurants. If you do so, the restaurants usually give you a something for making a reservation (free drink, free appetizer, or novelty gift).

POOL: There a two pools on the property. The main pool is has water loungers surrounding it and a pool bar on one end. The outside is surrounded with loungers with cushions which a very comfy. Contrary to the hotel photos there are only two of the circle covered loungers, and one sun covers is broken. About half the loungers have sun umbrellas, which you really need in the intense sun. Next to the main pool is a small kids pool only about 2 feet deep. The second smaller pool is located above the main pool and overflows into the main pool to make a nice water feature for the main pool. There are some more loungers around this pool but no umbrellas. Next to the ocean front there are about 8 cabanas with king size mattresses and pillows, this is were we spent most of our time. We would get there and read for an hour, get up and splash in the pool for an hour, repeat until about 6pm. Pool towels were easily available and easily returned, no hassles like others mentioned.

FOOD: We only ate at the beach grill for lunch and ate dinner in town. The food was good and pretty reasonable for a hotel. Lunch was about $10-15 pp and you can get it to go and eat it in the cabanas! Our main dinner spot was Paloma Bonita, next to the hotel. It is a mexican restaurant with great food, good drinks, good service, and nice music. Dinner for two (drinks, app, main course) was between $70 and $100. If you like good authentic food, go here. We also ate at Las Margaritas in the La Playa shopping center (nice area). Food here was very bland and made for the tourist taste bud. We like spicy food, so we were disappointed.

SPA: We got some spa treatments while there because they were running a special. We got a 30 minute reflexology massage, 50 minute seaweed wrap, and sauna for $130 pp. The spa treatments were nice and workers were very friendly.

MISCELLANEOUS: Others have talked about going to Walmart and stocking up on booze, which is an option. The bus stop is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, so remember you have to carry it back! We decided to go to a local shop next to bus stop and pay a little more to save some time. A bottle of booze is about $20 here and is much cheaper than buying drinks at the pool.

Bus is easy to use, safe and clean. Each trip is 6.5 pesos, and it makes frequent stops next to all of the major shopping/restaurant areas. The bus pick up is just down from the Fiesta Americana.

The main club area is also about a 5 minute walk from the hotel down a nice sidewalk. The club area has a bunch of all you can drink nightclubs for the younger crowd which are packed until the sun comes up. There is also a shopping area with tourist stores, Hard Rock, Carlos and Charlies, Chilis, and HagenDaz. We also ate lunch at the Taco Shop which was good, they have a large variety of tacos to choose from. Senor Frogs is a little further down past the clubs, about another 5 minutes.

“Great hotel, incredible location!”

Hyatt Regency Cancun

There are some whiny people on here! This hotel is great, top to bottom. I paid $900 for 6 nights for spring break and couldn't be happier. I had friends that spent twice that at ME by Melia and didn't get the quality of hotel that I did. Granted I have never stayed at this nice of hotel, and consider Keystone Light an exquisite ale, I looked hard and could not find anything wrong with this hotel. I studied harder for this vacation than any final I've ever taken and read the negative things said about this hotel and couldn't find evidence of any of them. Service was excellent, views were outstanding, and the location was as close as possible to the best clubs in Cancun. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't snobby and wants to stay in luxury while saving a few dollars.

***One tip to anyone who goes to Cancun...*** Go downtown to shop! I wish someone would've told me. Everything in the hotel zone is rip-off. Take the bus downtown and get it for half price or better.

“Beautiful, Quiet Hotel is a good location”

After staying at Dreams for 4 days, my friend and I wanted to extend our vacation a bit. We used Priceline (I'm a big fan) and our bid was accepted by the Hyatt Regency. It was about as convenient as you could get, it is the hotel right next door to Dreams. While it's not all-inclusive, we had already had enough of the cookie-cutter average buffet food & drinks, and were in the mood for a change.

Well, this was a very welcome change. First, the hotel is beautiful and well-maintained. Inside you'll find a circular construction with a very modern feel, and an atrium. It reminded me of a hotel you'd see in South Beach or Los Angeles. Check-in was simple, we arrived shortly after 3pm. While we didn't get an oceanside view, we were very pleased with the room. The shower was heaven and the complimentary toiletries were very nice. We had a King bed with very soft, high-end linens. Housekeeping did a great job, and the room was cleaned early in the day. The only gripe I have was that the elevators were really hot inside, but how much time are you spending in the elevator?

The outside of the hotel was just as impressive, both in style and comfort. There was no beach access, but I didn't miss it. The pool had built-in lounge chairs. The loungers and "shade pods" around the pool were also very comfortable. Closer to the oceanside, there were large beds and cabanas. We didn't order anything from the pool bar, so I can't comment on service.

We only ate at the hotel once, for breakfast at O. While it was on the pricey side for breakfast (It was roughly $32 for two, we didn't try the buffet.), it was worth it. The food was tasty and well-presented.

All in all, I really enjoyed this hotel. It was within a 5-10 minute walk of the main tourist area, and it was quiet and relaxing. It's good for singles and couples. There were a few families with kids, but not many.

“Great location, not so great hotel”

My friend and I came to this hotel mainly because of its location...after falling in love with the Hilton last year but not falling in love with its distance from the party center, we decided to try the Hyatt after looking at the enticing pictures online. We knew the hotel had no beach, so that is not a reason contributing to this bad review...however I still found this hotel to be a major let down...

Although this hotel looks in pictures as though it is going to be pristine with its spa-like decor and picturesque pool scene, this is not what you actually receive when you arrive! The lobby looks as though randomly colored chairs and sofas were simply thrown together in a circle...but still is better looking than the bad disco colored neon lighted, unconditioned and too hot to breathe in elevators....I decided to simply not this bother me as I am just a college student looking for a clean place to stay...

The rooms were clean and cool, and I was very happy to see that the room had a beautiful view of the ocean with a balcony (something I had missed while staying at the Hilton). From the look of things, it was going to be a good stay

My friend and I just got back from a very long trip so we decided to first go down to the pool and get some lunch. We sat down at the pool bar which only had one other guest sitting there at the time, and 3 waiters simply standing around with nothing to do. We waited for about 15 minutes for the waiters to greet us, and when none of them did I motioned one to come over...he throws a menu at us, and leaves for another 30 minutes without even taking our order...when he arrived back for our order he scowled at us like we were bothering him...service I must say I am not used to in Cancun where most of the locals will bend over backwards to make you happy...

Other service issues we came across were the fact the maid never brought us washcloths despite asking her, the front desk, and guest services over and over again, being charged for over 4 items that were never in our mini bar when we arrived, the bell man arguing with me about letting my friend who was a local of Cancun into the hotel without a "fee", and continually being ignored at restaurants and bars around the hotel.

The food was terrible in room service...i think the Oasis might have served better burgers than the ones we were brought at 13.50 a pop...food was standable at the Grill downstairs, yet extremely overpriced...Carlos and Charlie' s gave you more and better food at a better price...

On top of that I had a bag of Senor Frog's souvenirs that was in the room when we left at the beginning of the day, and was mysteriously missing when we got back after the maid had visited...when I made a claim about it the staff simply told me either it was my friend who visited 3 nights prior to that that stole it or I must have shoved it off my own balcony....yeah...okay...

Only great thing about this hotel was the location...simply one or two doors down from most of the night life of Cancun...I wouldn't stay here again however.

Was it a dump? No, but they seriously need an attitude adjustment here at the Hyatt Regency and they are not what they advertise to be...I'll be staying elsewhere next trip...
