my boyfriend and i wanted to get away for a couple days, and really didnt care where we went as long as there was a beach... i came across this hotel through jetblue vacations where we booked the hotel for 4nights & roundtrip flight from nyc for $612 a person... it was so cheap because we went during hurricane season (the last week in september)...
the entire hotel is very modern & is exactly as pictured on all of the travel websites...
we booked a room with two double beds with a deluxe ocean view & ended up staying in room 919... deluxe does not even come close to the view that we had... we had an amazing view of the caribbean sea & could see all the way down the entire hotel zone strip... at night it was gorgeous seeing everything all lit up... the sunrises were amazing... the bed was extremely comfortable & the bathrooms and showers were decent size...
customer service was great... my boyfriend forgot to bring a razor with him & we saw in one of the brochures in the room that they provide complimentary toiletry products upon request... we called housekeeping to see if they had a razor so we didnt have to buy one, and within two minutes one of the housekeepers was knocking on the door with a brand new gillette fusion razor and can of gillette mens shaving gel...
the location of this hotel was great!!!! everything is within walking distance- all the clubs, restaurants, flea market, stores, etc... make sure you go to coco bongos... it is kind of like a nyc club mixed with a las vegas show... they have people who dress up & perform songs from people like elvis, brett michaels, lou bega, beyonce, britney spears, etc... there are also circus soleil people.... if you go shopping at the flea market, be prepared to bargain with the people... some of the vendors can be intimidating because it is as if they all approach you at once, but you just have to get used to it...
this hotel has three pools- one of which has beach chairs in the pool... there used to be a beach, but it got washed away during hurricane wilma in 2005, but you are allowed to use the beach at the hotel next door (i think dreams??)... the hyatt regency provides extra towels to use at the pools or beach...
no matter what hotel you stay in, make sure if you go to cancun taht you take the short 20min ferry ride to isla mujeres for the day... the ferry leaves out of puerto juarez... once arriving at isla mujeres, you can rent a golf cart for around $40 for the day to drive around this small 5mile island... there are amazing beaches, places to hold & swim with nurse sharks, amazing tiny little restaurants, and sights to see.... it was how i expected mexico to be... this day trip was by far the highlight of our trip... we are actually planning on going to isla mujeres this summer for around a week...
we also had an amazing time at xcaret... we booked it through a guy named "shorty" who stands in a small booth outside between the hyatt regency and right before the city place club... he got us a really good deal... xcaret is kind of like an amusement park, aquarium, zoo, beach resort, snorkeling place, etc all rolled into one... it even had an underground river to snorkel in... make sure that if you go that you stay for the night show that starts at 7pm...
this was our first trip to cancun & we couldnt have asked for a nicer hotel... we would stay here again in a heartbeat...
