There are probably hundreds of resorts in Cancun that have the same features (if not more) than the Hyatt, and are a lot cheaper. But if you feel a little nervous about what the place will be like, spend the extra $ and go for the Hyatt-is is drop dead gorgeous. The grounds, lobby, restaurants, rooms, etc-absolutely beautiful. Lots of security, friendly staff, and awesome facilities. Having said that, it probably is a little expensive by Mexico standards-but it is the Hyatt after all.
PROS
The bed was amazing. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on.
The rooms were lovely and spacious. Huge bed, lots of pay TV channels.
Pool areas are beautiful-swim up bar had reasonably priced cocktails.
The pool area has lots of mini cabanas, lounge chairs, etc.
The buffet breakfast-WOW. Amazing. Best I've ever, ever had. Huge bowls of fresh shaved salmon, cakes, rolls, pastries, eggs made to order, pancakes, Mexican food, like 8 different fresh juices-amazing and delicious.
Good location, as it's near bars, a mall, restaurants, clubs, etc. yet is far enough away to stay fairly quiet.
The gym is very good-free weights, cardio equipment, etc.
CONS
Teeny tiny balcony off the rooms, but no big deal.
You had to get the bar fridge unlocked, and putting 'outside food and drink' in there was frowned upon. Come on, what is this, Summer camp?
There are some awesome canopy beds overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately there is no system to book these, so people put their bags on their all day and all night. The hotel should implement some sort of booking system, because it's really not fair.
Internet was really expensive.
Indulge a little bit for some extra piece of mind!
