we have just got back from the maya caribe and I think I know why some of the reviews are great and others are not so good. the first 2 nights we stayed in their garden bunglelows and the other 8 nights in the main buildings. there realy is a big difference. in the bunglelow the bathroom has swing saloon style doors, with nine inches gap at the bottom and eighteen inches at the top, offering very little privacy for your room-mate. The plug hole was set above the bottom of the sink which left a water stain, and they are unloved. We asked to be moved to the main building. the reception moved us as soon as possible. The main building was much better. we had one room with a sea view, and the other oppersite. We found them of a much better standard. the rooms were clean. the plumbing good, and the bathrooms with real doors. we ate mainly at the dos players and found the food excelent with different choices every day(the fish in batter was better than our local fish and chip shop). We tended to drop a dollar every other round to the barman and had excelent service finishing our meals with either tequila slammers or aniseed liqueur, or both. In the interest of fairness I must confess to speaking spanish, and paying next to nothing for our stay (£524 for four people for 10 nights). if you go say hi to eric the barman, Tomas and Pepe the waiters and veronica the head waiter. I would go back in a flash

This so called hotel should be blown up.
We had a great view of the sea and beech, which has broken bottels littering the beach, and un emptied rubbish bins.
The rooms were of very low quality, i.e. the bathroom was filthy, and the pictures are not a true reflection of the rooms.
The staff at the reception barely spoke english and generally unhelpfull.
The eating area was never washed down and rubbish left on the floors of the bar area .
Thes so called restaurant was so unhealthy in the u.k. would have been closed down by evioromental health.

I can not say how bad this place is please avoide it.

Mexico is a great place but please dont go to this hotel, we dont expect 5 star as we are well travelled people, but this does not reckon for any stars. i cant understand why agents sell this hotel useing there name. truly hell. we booked and only afterwards checked the forum, we ate out and as for drinks well tip well or the waiters say they have run out of drink. in all my years of holidays abroad this is the worst. the photos put up by others are a true reflection.

This hotel was Night Mare on Elm street. First of all, when my husband tried to call for us they said they can't patch him through, there was blood on the bed sheet, no shower curtain and piss stains in the shower. There was no lock box in our room, didn't feel safe at all in the room, I but our big suitcases against the door b/c we didn't feel safe. Also, the food was cold and didn't taste good either, the only thing my sister and I had was toast and water without ice. There was bugs all over the fruit. When we told the people about our concern they didn't seem to care, and they seemed very disorganized. I felt bad for sister b/c when she saw the pictures on there website it looked great, but looks are always decieving. Let's just say, I would not leave my dog or cat there. Stay away from that hotel.

I stayed at the hotel on an all inclusive basis from 13th to 27th January this year. I was rather daunted having read the reviews, but I had requested a sea view, and my lovely room overlooked palm trees and the gorgeous sea.
I went on my own, as most of my friends are settled down, and met loads of people from day 2 onwards and have made some incredible friends from Canada, France and the UK.
The hotel is a 2.5 star, so the food can be very repetetive, there is a distinct lack of seafood, only one species of white fish is served. But the bar staff in the main restaurant are very friendly, especially whacky old Thomas with his hairnet! The queues in the main restaurant are reminiscent of school dinners! You get the odd rude tourist pushing, so just push back!
My room was clean, the sheets smelt lovely and clean. Very powerful shower. Always had hot water.
Be warned, not enough beach beds, so me and my new friends had to get up at sparrow fart to save them.
And it could be frustrating when they ran out of basics like milk or bananas, but hey! Get over it!
Alberto on reception is lovely and speaks very good English. Pierre the main chef in the smaller Excaret restaurant is charming.
All in all, the best holiday I've had due to the mad, lovely people I met. Never laughed so much and relaxed so much in my life. So, if you're on a tight budget this is cool. I myself might go up a notch to a 3 or a 4 star next time, just for a treat!
