I am a happy return customer to this fine diving establishment. I did a referral dive certification one year ago, and was lucky to have Octavio as my dive instructor then.....I had hoped upon my return this year, to be able to go out with him again, but he has a following, and he was already out with return customers. I spoke last year with Clemente, about my dive then, and of course, he did not remember that, but I did, and when I found that he would be our divemaster, I was fine with that.....I went with Clemente and my dive buddy to the Chitales reef, and to Remedio reef/area to the north of the Punta Cancun.....the depths were 25-35 feet....and we saw a nurse shark, a sea tortoise, a manta ray, lots of conch shells on the bottom, and more snappers/groupers than you could shake a stick at.....
thanks to fred, clemente, and octavio for making scuba diving a fun and enjoyable experience for me.......I will return, and use your services again!

Feb 2, I dove again with Nautilus/Scuba Freds. I got certified on a referral dive deal a year ago, with Octavio as my instructor, and wanted to go with him again this year, but due to his popularity, he was booked up, so Clemente was our dive master. My dive partner for the day was a novice, and did the Discover Scuba class, which I did also, as a brush up and re-instill some practices that needed honing......We went out to Chitales reef, and the Remedio area, north of Punta Cancun....25-35 deep, nothing significant, but there was a lot of sea life to see! We encountered a nice sized ray, a 4 ft nurse shark, a 2 foot sea turtle, and hundreds of other fish.....
Clemente was working both a still camera in an underwater housing, and a video.....both had great shots when he showed it to us, but me being cheap, did not him up on the offer......he was a good tour guide, and when he saw something of interest, he got us to look in on it....we had a blast, and will use them the next time in Cancun for sure!

I dove with Nautilus on Monday, January 26th. Octavio picked me up at my resort and then we made one more stop to pick up another 2 divers that were going to dive with us. Octavio discussed with us our options since the winds were high and the water would be rough at the wreck. Octavio let us decide which dives we wanted to do based on our comfort level and the current conditions. Despite the rough water, we decided to tough it out and do the 1st dive at the wreck - great decision! Hovering 5' above the deck of the wreck were about 15-20 spotted eagle rays! As we made our way over to the other end of the wreck, Octavio pointed out another 25-30 spotted eagle rays hovering in the current just above the bottom. He also pointed out a shark in the distance hovering in the current. Each dive, Octavio went through the complete dive plan, explained what to expect to see and reviewed hand signals to alert us to some of the marine life we would see.

Being more of a novice diver, Octavio was very helpful with hints to make the dive more enjoyable as well aiding with my boyancy control.

I had my own equipment; however, the other 2 divers used Nautilus' equipment. During both dives, there were no issues with the equipment at all. In fact, one of the other divers was having trouble with her own personal mask. Octavio had an extra mask on the boat which made her dive a better experience.

Thanks Octavio, I will be back!

My 15 year old son and I enjoyed scuba so much that we can't wait to go back ! Fred and Octavio were fantastic. They were both so nice and made sure we had a wonderful first experience. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and we couldn't go back for a second time, but we will definitely call Octavio again when we return to Cancun.

My Partner and I had a terrible experience at this location. My Boyfriend and I are PADI certified open water divers.

My partner nearly lost his life on our first dive with Scuba Fred's Nautilus Diving in Cancun, due to faulty equipment and a series of negligence by this outfit.

His air guage read 2800 before the dive. After a time underwater, the guage dropped suddenly from 1500 to 750 and at that reading, he suddently had absolutely NO AIR - with no guage to warn him. The depth was nearly 80 feet. The divemaster had checked it moments before and there was no indication that air was low.

His goggles also leaked the entire dive and later when our dive master used them.

He began drowning and swallowing water, lost his vision and became dizzy but he was able to reach another diver and use his octopus, but within 4 breaths that diver's air was dangerously low. He left him and found a divemaster who saw his signal of no air and pushed his own respirator towards him, but the hose fell off the divemasters' tank and he was unable to reconnect. They made an emergency ascent using only 1 respirator by buddy breathing to the surface.

At the beginning of our dive, I asked for my usual weight and they did not have enough, so when I tried to descend, I was unable too, and my divemaster aborted the dive and we tried again with heavier weights. They did not have enough weights on board the boat to accomodate everyone.

After we completed this dive and my partner was taken to the surface and recovered, we decided to dive again, in order not to be scared away from diving forever. This dive wasn't much better!

Our divemaster used the goggles previously used by my partner and they leaked continuously, and she gave me her extra weights in order for me to dive properly but it left her without enough, she thought that she could maintain her dive with less weights, but her equipment (supplied by Scuba Fred's) was also defective and her BCD began inflating and she was losing air and she just popped up to the surface, involuntarily. Leaving my partner and I confused at the bottom and alone - of ocurse we then had to abort our dive and safely ascend, using our dive computer for a safe stop.

This experience was the worst ever, and all because of a series of defective pieces of equipment and missing weights for the dive.

I would never recommend this company and I would never use them again.

The individual divemasters were OK and without one of them sharing air, my partner would most certainly be dead. But I remain really upset with Fred the owner of the dive company who didn't even apologize or acknowledge what happened.

This happened because of defective equipment and negligence.

I would like to express our sincere apologies for the events caused for a malfunction on the pressure gauge, we do not intentionally give malfunctioning equipment to the divers, specially a pressure gauge. On the events described I can say that there was not a good dive planning on this couple and their privately hired divemaster, me and another divemaster were in charge of four divers and when we all went in the water and made it to the bottom I realize that I have five divers with me and this fifth diver was the diver that ran out of air, I must say that he should have stayed with his buddy, anyhow because of the conditions of this dive site we took care of him and made him part of our group, towards the end of the dive two of my divers had 700 psi and me and them started our ascent but not before checking everybody¨s air, I checked his air and noticed that he still had 1,000 psi so I told him ( with hand signals ) to buddy up with the other divemaster and the other two divers and finish the dive which they had about 5 more minutes, the large school of eagle rays were there and I thought that he could enjoy these beautiful creatures for a few more minutes but I was not aware about the pressure gauge malfunctioning. Me and my two divers went back in the boat and a few minutes later they came up, we picked them up and he was telling us about the experience, I checked the pressure gauge and confirmed that the needle was getting stock, so we put that regulator out of service, we offer the extra regulator that we had on board and seemed to me that after talking about the situation and judging by the laughs on board everybody was having fun. On the second dive all divers went down with their own guide, their privately hired divemaster/insructor ( does not work for us ) could have fixed the BCD situation ( we are trained for situations like that ) and could have used the extra mask that was on board
Regarding not having enough weights for everybody I only can say that we all made both dives and were able to go down and stay down for the planned time.
Regarding the pressure gauge we did not know that the pressure gauge had that problem other wise we would never had giving him nor anybody a pressure gauge like that, when a pressure gauge is missreading is then taking out of service and disposed.
The mask licking I only can say that we all divers were thought on how to check a mask for proper fitting before diving ( without the strap place it in your face and breath in creating negative pressure and if it stays means that no air/water will come in)
Once again our sincere apologies about the events,
We did not intentionally plan for this to happen
Sincerely,
Octavio Perez
