Do not book if you 100% want to stay this hotel. There is a good chance you will get moved to another hotel far away.

We read the reviews and we were one of the unlucky ones to be sent to the other hotel.

When we arrived we were given a series of lies as to why there was no room. First we were told that the AC was not working so they did not have a room. So replied we just stayed in a room in Play Del Carmen without running the AC and we were fine so we will take the room. Well the lie changed and then the room was overlooking the tennis courts and we would not want that room. Again we said no problem we'll take it. Guess what? Lie changed again that that room was not available anymore and they did have a room but we would have to change after 1 night. So we said that's not a problem. And then more lies. She never said once they were overbooked. Just lies. On top of it all the lies were just delivered rudely. With the tone of "you guys are idiots for wanting that room". They are so bad at it they just change the lie right in front of you. Nothing like "let me talk to a manager" and then they come back with a new lie, they just change the lie on the fly.

We asked for compensation because we wanted an all adults hotel so we were told we were being put on the "all adults floor:. Another lie. There is no all adults rooms floor at the Great Parnassus. All adults pool yes but no floor without families. And we were given NOTHING for our trouble. Not even an apology! That really was the worst. They had no remorse for what they were doing.

We met 5 others that day alone that were also sent to the Great Parnassus. One of the worst things is the cab driver said they do it all the time and their scam was that they had however many beds to sell between the 2 hotels so they would just book that total no matter which hotel and just move people. I also overhear a "regular" at the pool that said they did the same thing to him and he had been coming for years.

So I say for peace of mind avoid this hotel and book another that has better customer service. I know a lot of people will say that this never happened to them but when it does it sure sucks when it does. It is unfortunate that they will continue to do this without any repercussions.

My husband and I had a good time at the Gold Parnassus. Not much to complain about. This was our first time in Cancun so didn't have great expectations. We were pleasantly surprised. We travel to at least once each year to an all inclusive and this resort has excellent service and food. The beach isn't great, but compared to other resorts on the strip is probably one of the best. Beach has a bar which is a bonus.

Tips:
1) Check-in is 3 p.m., if you have an early flight talk to your rep and they can likely pull some strings to get you a room...worked for us! We didn't get a Club room...so not sure if it's worth it...oceanview was nice enough!
2) Check out the spa - I had a relaxing manicure, pedicure and facial.
3) Front desk converts US$ and CDN$ to Pesos. Bartenders will covert US$ to US$ if you need tipping money!
4) Get your chairs early at the pool and the beach. If you're up late enough you might as well just put your towels out before you go to bed :)
5) We met a lot of great people, some we will stay in contact with...your trip is really what you make of it...

Yes I will recommend this resort to my friends!
Yes I will likely return at some point...I haven't often said this about other places we have visited!
Have a great trip!

Stayed at the GP from Feb.7-Feb.14, 2009. Check in was a breeze, nice welcome drink and orientation. Offered to view a time share but politely declined and that was the end of it, no hassell the rest of the week.

Rooms: Room was an oceanview club, 6th floor, great view of the ocean and a nice jaccuzzi tub. spacious bathroom with great lighting and double shower with bench seat. Rooms are a little dated but your on holiday you don't live there, who cares right? beds were actually comfy because of the matress topper.

Food: Buffet breakfast and lunch had awsome choices, eggs, waffles, french toast. Highly reccommend the chicken fajitas for lunch. Pier 12 was just so so, absolutly loved Old Barn, steaks were unreal.

Service: Second to none best I have ever received in Mexico, friendly attentive, over the top. Tipped a dollar or 2 every couple of rounds which let me tell you went along way. Tipped the maids two dollars a day and room was always spot less and had fresh towels and a stocked mini fridge. Also on day 4 or air conditioner broke and was pumping out heat. After a quick chat with the bellman they had a repair man up to fix it by the time we were back from dinner.

Tips: Don;t pay more than 25 us for a cab ride from the airport to hotel, (I made the mistake of paying 60), Xel-Ha tour with Tulum was unreal, Selvatica Zipline was great, party hopper was fun too. Wear Sunscreen, haha. Have fun guys and gals this is a really great hotel, whick offers a very welcoming and happy vibe your whole trip. These people work their butts off to make you happy. you won't be dissapointed.

The Golden Parnassus is a All-Inclusive hotel that is absolutely wonderful. I must give an extra thank-you to Reyna at the hotel lobby and to Sonia the pool-side waitress. It really was worth the money...
The food was great with the exception of the Sumo Restaurant- not so good. Never a line, and never a wait for a fresh drink. I had the Beef Fillet at 3 of the restaurants on site, and all where great.
The rooms where very, very clean and nice. I had an ocean-view room on the ground level, and what a view it was. Just wonderful!
Trips and activities can all be arranged at the hotel, so no need to book them in advance. I would also like to thank Rae at AquaWorld for being so absolutely nice. We experienced some not-so nice days and she re-arranged our Jungle Tour.
This is the first time I have ever gone All-Inclusive and it was worth it at the Golden Parnassus! If you are wondering where to stay-- I fully recommend Golden Parnassus. I plan to return in the next several months.
*** 5 Tips ***
1.) Bring several US dollar bills.
2.) Tip waitress for each round of drinks, and your glass will never be dry!
3.) Tip house cleaning ladies daily and your room will be 100% spotless.
4.) Pay for the bus in Pesos. Take the cab only to Flea Market 28, or to Wal-Mart, but make sure you get a price before you get in the cab. (Wal-Mart was actually fun! Good place to get meds.)
5.) When you arrive in Cancun, go directly outside and find your transportation: shuttle, cab, or bus. The time-share salesmen and women will try to direct you into their sales area. Don't be afraid to say, "No thank- you."

We stayed at the Golden Parnassus from January 31 to February 7, 2009 and loved it.

Yes the Hotel is "tired" but very clean and the staff put it over the top for service. The past reveiws for Jose at the Tiki bar are all correct, he is absolutely the BEST! I cant say enough about the man he is truly a treasure.

Check in was a breeze, we were guided to the lobby bar and given a drink, front desk staff brought us our keys, towel cards, safe key and remote for the TV then Jozeph gave the overview for the hotel and offered us a time share presentation for the Royal Cancun. We declined and he left it alone, nothing pushy whatsoever.

We had lagoon facing rooms but upgraded the following day for ocean view, a $10.00 US tip got us 6 nights for the price of 5 so just goes to show a little tipping doesnt hurt. Ocean view is stunning and the only complaint I would have about the rooms is the lighting, a little dark in the shower but no big deal. Tipped the maid every second day and we always had new towel art to enjoy.

Loved the fact that the hotel is small, everything is a short walk and you get know your fellow travellers in short order, met a lot of really nice people from all over Canada, the US and the UK . The fact that it is an adults only hotel was definitely a plus, no screaming brats or pee in the pool!

I wouldnt say the food was excellent all of the time but it was certainly very good, I liked the Sumono (Japanese) the best and the Old Barn the least, we never did make it to the Shangra La because we couldnt be bothered to dress up. The Shabu Shabu soup, tempura and sushi were all excellent at Sumono. The pasta, crab cakes and prawns were all good at Pier 12. The breakfast and lunch buffets were very good, lots to choose from and fairly good variety from day to day. There was a pancake/waffle station and egg station where you can make specific requests with little to no wait. The snack bar had cheeseburgers, tacos, chicken wings fries etc, all day and night. The night time cook made the best Taco by far, had one almost every night before we turned in.

The bar service was top notch, rarely waited for a drink and after the first night Jose (tiki bar) and Miguel (lobby bar) remembered all of our names and what we were drinking, usually had the drink made before we sat down.

Pool was excellent a little cold but always very clean, yes you have to get down and reserve a cot early but the entertainment staff were wonderful and Lily did a great job of drink service. The beach has been eroded by past hurricanes but beautiful all the same, the color of that water is stunning. Ivan the tatoo artist was fantastic, loved talking to him about his Mayan heritage. All four of us got tatoos and loved them!

The one and only complaint we had was not being able to order decent wine, they have a menu that you can order from and pay a nominal cost but they never had what we wanted....apparently it was always sold out. No big deal we had a good laugh about it after the third try.

All in all it was a fantastic vacation, the size of the hotel, not having to make reservations for ala carte dinner, no kids and the number one service provided by the staff made this hotel number one. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but then again Im tempted to keep it our little secret....
