I had read a lot of reviews about the Golden Crown before we went on our vacation to Cancun. I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised.

When you arrive at the Golden Crown you will be asked to sit in the lobby lounge while they check you in. Then they will come and give you your key and such. My only concern was that we had no idea what type of room we would be getting. When we got to our room it had two double beds and a lagoon view. We had requested a oceanview, king bed. Be persistant and you will get the room you want. After the first night we requested a different room. We chose to pay $40.00/night and upgrade to a crown room. It had a whirlpool tub and a beautiful view of the resort and the ocean. If you don't want to pay extra just keep asking.....

The resort has a buffet that serves breakfast and lunch. The selection is quite good for an all inclusive. I would suggest the fajitas for lunch as they are made fresh while you wait.

At dinner there are three different restaurants to chose from. All the restaurants are quite good. The Shangria La is a bit more upscale, the portions are smaller but tasty. The Pier 12 offers more relaxed dining with an outside patio looking over the ocean. The Old Barn works well for people that are looking for Steak and Ribs. You don't have to make a reservation at any of these places. Just remember if you like to eat around 8, you might have to wait a few minutes.

The resort has a great beach with lots of shade and sun... never really had a problem getting a chair. Remember to tip the drink girls on the beach a couple of dollars. They appreciate it, and you will see them a lot more often.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Jose and Carlos at the bar by the pool are very funny. Just say no to the tequila slammers!

Over all it was a great experience. They went above and beyond. Our flight was delayed 5 hours going home and they let us use all the facilities until we left at 9 that night.

This hotell was fantastic. I read every review before I came here so i wasn't sure what to expect. The location,the price,the service, the no kids, it just can't be matched. (We stayed for the week of jan 8th to 15 th)
Let me start by saying that checkin was a breeze. We arrived at 10am and were welcomed with a cool cloth and a drink. Our rooms were not ready so we spent the afternoon by the pool and beach which are both gorgeous. I have never seen water so blue and sand so white and soft. It was paradise. There were ten of us and everyone ended up staying on the same floor except for 2.
Initially my boyfriend and I were on the lagoon side, which is nice, however i really wanted to be in an ocean view room(IF YOUR GOING TO PAY THE MONEY FOR A NICE VACATION YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE THE VIEW). Switching rooms was no problem. We were given an ocean view room the next morning. The rooms are clean and well maintained by the staff. The beds are a bit hard, but if that's the worst thing that happens while you are there then your doing great. The size of the hotel is perfect. It's not too huge and crazy that you can't relax but it also has great daily and nightly entertainment. The entertainment staff is great and everyone there works hard for you. We went out to coco bongo's, senor frogs and the bulldog cafe while we were there. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE GONE OUT MORE BUT STAYING IN AND WATCHING THE NIGHTLY SHOWS AND DRINKING AT THE TIKI BAR WERE ALSO GREAT. We did the jungle tour and it was a fantastic experience. We also attempted to visit some flea markets. Beware! do not attempt unless you are a master bargainer.... The food was pretty good. The breakfast and lunch buffet had great variety and tasty food. For dinner we went to the old barn twice, pier 12/shangri la once. It is quite simple to take the free shuttle over to the sister hotel for the dinner buffet. YOU CAN ALSO BOOK A RESERVATION FOR DINNER AT THE SISTER HOTEL (THE NIGHT BEFORE) IN ANY OF THEIR RESTAURANTS. THE MEXICAN RESTAURANT WASN'T THE GREATEST....BUT THE ITALIAN WAS PRETTY GOOD. The free 24 hour room service was very convenient especially after the bar, or in the morning for breakfast on your patio. If I can express anything enough, it;s lease tip the staff. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE ATTITUDE THAT BECAUSE IT SAYS THAT TIPS ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE THAT THEY DON'T NEED TO TIP. THE STAFF WORK VERY HARD FOR VERY LITTLE (5$ A DAY). Bring 1$ bills to tip every so often. IT KEEPS YOUR GLASS CONSTANTLY FULL, YOUR ROOM WILL GET A LITTLE EXTRA ATTENTION (FLOWER PETALS, THE SHAPE OF ANIMALS MADE FROM HAND TOWELS) ETC. All in all this hotal was great. It was our first time in cancun and when we come back it will be to this hotel.. HAVE A GREAT VACATION!! HOPE THIS REVIEW HELPS...

Mt wife and I spent a wonderful week (1/8 - 1/15) with four of our friends at the Golden Crown. We read many reviews before going and believe me most of the complaints you see, are non existing, or people who just must feel the need to complain. We heard several while there and realized that these people eitherlook for things to complain about, or are just not happy with anything. (One of them was with us!!:) )

First thing people need to realize it that this is Mexico, 5 stars there are not 5 stars here. If you want "The Ritz" its right next door. However if you are looking for a great place to stay, quiet, clean, and freindly, this is it!!!

Check in -Yes, you are greeted at the door, your luggage wisked away to the corner and served that orange mango drink, by a freindly curteous staff. We had requested all three rooms to be ocean view, and recieved one. No big deal ,I'll have to say the sunset is as great as the sunrise. One of the couples,were on there honeymoon and they recieved a complimentary bottle of champagne and fruit basket.

The rooms- clean!!!! they do a great job. (I am a direrctor of facilities) and would love to have them work for me. Tip and you recieve swans, hearts, a flower pedals, something different every night. No maintenance issues. The beds are hard, but what a great night sleep we had, no back aches in the morning.

The food- very goood. better than the last all inclusive in Cancun. Good variety,very tasty, good amounts (remember this is an ALL-INCLUSIVE order two if it wasn't enough) Shangra La very strict with dress code, no jeans, or beach wear. Burgers and steaks were good at the Old Barn!!!

Towels,pools, and ocean- People LISTEN two people drowned before our eyes, if they say don't venture to far out, DON'T. Pool was great, the hot tub is a jacuzzi (thats why it is not realhot but very relaxing.)Towels nice size and plenty of them. There are topless bathers but most are vert discreet and don't flaunt em.

Staff- all are excellent. They will help you with anything. Even if you need aluminum foil for your hair (inside joke). They go out of their way for you. Activities staff is wonderful, tell Katie sweaterboy says HI!!!!. If you go on bike tour with Carlos, this is more for excercise than a tour, but it was fun went almost everyday. Tequlla volleyball rules!!!!!! have fun. Play so you can find out what Kentucky fried chicken and white dolphin are.

All said WE'D GO BACK IN A HEART BEAT!!!!!!

We returned on Jan. 19th 05 after 1 week and will never stay anywhere else in Cancun. This place is paradise for the vacationer who wants only the best. The all adult, all inclusive hotels everywhere else in the world should come here for lessons on how to treat the guests of their hotels.
